Shipping Company from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon Small Loads by the Cubic Metre, Delivered to Sidon
Guide summary

Small-load shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon by the cubic metre in a shared sea or road shipment, with worked examples for a desk, chair and cartons, car shipping after condition photos, urgent air parcels to Beirut and delivery to Sidon.

If you are looking for a shipping company from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon and your belongings will not fill a container, the usual answer is a shared shipment: you pay only for the space your items take up, by the cubic metre, and they travel with other shipments by sea from Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to Beirut port in roughly three to four weeks, or by road in transit through Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria in about 8–14 days when the route suits your load. Urgent parcels and documents fly to Beirut airport in two to four days. At Al Basmah International Shipping we collect from your flat in Umm Al Quwain, measure each item and work out the volume in front of you, deliver to Sidon or anywhere in Lebanon, and send you a WhatsApp update at every stage.

This guide is for people living alone, in a small flat or a studio: someone whose contract has ended, a returning student, a couple without much furniture. You do not have much, but one question bothers you: how much will a desk, a chair and a few cartons cost? The answer is in the worked examples below, together with how to cut the volume, how to label, and why you should photograph your car before handing it over.

Measure before you book

  • Shared shipping is charged by the cubic metre: length × width × height in metres for each item, then added up.
  • Dismantling the desk and bed and boxing the chair can save around a third of the volume.
  • A medium carton of 50 × 40 × 40 cm is 0.08 m³; ten of them come to less than one cubic metre.
  • When the volume approaches about 10 m³, the team compares the price with your own 20 ft container.
  • Number your cartons and write your name and Lebanese phone number on each.
  • Photograph your car from every side before handover; urgent parcels go by air to Beirut.

What we ship from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon

We ship small and large loads from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon, but most of what we get from UAQ residents is a one- or two-room shipment: personal effects, appliances, a few pieces of furniture and sometimes a car.

  • Cartons of clothes, books, kitchenware and personal items.
  • A desk and office chair, a bookcase, a small table.
  • A single or double bed with mattress and a small dismantled wardrobe.
  • A TV, computer, monitors and small electronics.
  • A small fridge, washing machine and microwave.
  • A bicycle, sports gear and suitcases.
  • A crossover or family car.
  • Small quantities of commercial goods for a shop or online store.

How is shared shipping calculated by the cubic metre?

Shared shipping means your items occupy part of a container or truck alongside other shipments, so you pay for their volume rather than the whole container. The calculation is simple: measure each item in centimetres after packing, multiply length by width by height, then divide by one million to get cubic metres. Most shared shipments have a minimum chargeable volume, and the team tells you what it is before booking.

Item Packed size (cm) Approx. volume (m³)
Assembled desk 120 × 60 × 75 0.54
Same desk dismantled 125 × 65 × 12 0.10
Office chair as is 65 × 65 × 110 0.46
Office chair boxed, base removed 70 × 60 × 60 0.25
Medium carton 50 × 40 × 40 0.08
Large carton 60 × 40 × 50 0.12
Single bed dismantled, with mattress 190 × 90 × 25 0.43
55-inch TV in its box 135 × 85 × 15 0.17
Bicycle in a carton 140 × 25 × 80 0.28
Small fridge 60 × 60 × 110 0.40
Washing machine 60 × 60 × 85 0.31

Example 1: a desk, a chair and twelve cartons

Ship the desk assembled and the chair as it is, with 12 medium cartons, and the volume is 0.54 + 0.46 + 0.96 = about 1.96 m³. Dismantle the desk and box the chair, and it becomes 0.10 + 0.25 + 0.96 = 1.31 m³. The difference is around 0.65 m³, roughly a third of the volume, that you would otherwise pay for as air between the desk legs.

Example 2: a whole studio

A single bed with mattress (0.43), a TV (0.17), a bicycle (0.28), twenty medium cartons (1.6), a small fridge (0.40) and a washing machine (0.31) add up to about 3.2 m³. That is an ideal size for shared shipping. If your list starts approaching 10 m³, ask the team to compare the price with your own 20 ft container; it may work out cheaper and clear faster.

Measure cartons after they are sealed, not before. A carton bulging at the top adds centimetres you do not notice, and across twenty cartons the difference shows up in the price.

Shared sea or road: which suits a small load?

A small load has two main options, and the team recommends one at booking based on your volume and timing:

Shared sea (LCL)

Your items share a container with other shipments from Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to Beirut. Usually cheaper for small volumes, but the container waits until it is full, then is unpacked and cleared at a warehouse in Beirut.

Shared road

Your items take part of a closed truck crossing Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria in transit to Al Masnaa. Usually faster, needs complete papers for several countries, and the team first confirms road suits your shipment.

Air

For what must arrive within days: documents, a small device, two weeks of clothes. Charged by weight, not cubic metres.

If your arrival date in Lebanon is flexible, shared sea is enough. If you take over your flat in Sidon within two weeks and want your bed there, ask about road. Many people split the shipment: two cartons by air for the first days, the rest by sea.

Transit times from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon

Method Approx. time Best for Notes
Shared sea 3–4 weeks, sometimes a little more Small flat, cartons, appliances Add time for the container to fill and be unpacked in Beirut
Sea, own container or RoRo 3–4 weeks A car, or volumes near 10 m³ and above From Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port
Shared road in transit 8–14 days Small loads needed quickly Complete papers for several countries
Air 2–4 days Urgent parcels and documents Charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher

Pickup areas in Umm Al Quwain

We collect from every neighbourhood in Umm Al Quwain. Small flats usually need a two-person team and a mid-size vehicle, so we set the time around the building lift and the watchman’s hours.

Residential areas

Al Salamah, Al Raafah, Al Ramlah, Al Humrah and Al Maidan.

Old town and the creek

The areas near the corniche, the creek (Al Khor) and the marina.

Industrial and free zones

Umm Al Thuoob Industrial Area, Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone and the modern industrial area on Emirates Road.

Inland

Falaj Al Mualla and surrounding areas.

After pickup your items go to our Sharjah branch in Industrial Area 18 to join the shared shipment. You can also drop them at the Sharjah branch or our Dubai branch in Deira, Port Saeed Street. If a relative is holding some of your things in Ajman or Sharjah, see shipping from Ajman to Lebanon and shipping from Sharjah to Lebanon, and we will combine them into one shipment.

The road route from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon

From Umm Al Quwain the truck heads south on Emirates Road to Abu Dhabi and the border; the total distance is roughly 3,000–3,250 km:

  1. Umm Al Quwain, then Abu Dhabi to the Al Ghuwaifat border.
  2. Al Batha border and sealed transit across Saudi Arabia.
  3. Al Omari border into Jordan in transit, the same route as shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Jordan.
  4. The Nasib/Jaber crossing and transit through Syria.
  5. Al Masnaa border into Lebanon, then Beirut and the coastal road south to Sidon.

On a shared road shipment your items are part of one truckload with one set of papers, so your item list must be accurate: one undeclared piece can hold up the whole truck at a border.

Packing and labelling a shared shipment

In a shared shipment your cartons move among other people’s and are loaded and unloaded more than once. A clear label is what makes sure they all reach you and do not get mixed up.

  • Number every carton as 1/14, 2/14 and so on, so the receiver knows the count is complete.
  • Write on each carton: your name as in your passport, your Lebanese phone number and the city (Sidon, for example).
  • Put the label on at least two sides of the carton, not just the lid.
  • Describe contents briefly on the packing list rather than the carton: “clothes”, “books”, “kitchenware”.
  • Mark fragile cartons “FRAGILE” with an arrow pointing up.
  • Use wide tape and new or strong cartons, and do not fill a large carton with books or it will split.
  • Ship the TV in its original box or a proper crate, never wrapped only in blankets.

Warning: Do not pack official papers, your passport, cash, jewellery or personal medicines in the cartons. Keep these with you or send them separately by air.

Shipping a crossover from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon: photograph it first

Cars go by sea in a container or on a RoRo vessel, and inside the UAE they travel from your door to the port on an enclosed car carrier. Before you hand the car over, photograph it yourself: the photos are your reference and ours at delivery in Lebanon.

  1. Wash the car before taking photos; dust hides scratches.
  2. Photograph all four sides, then all four corners, and the roof if you can.
  3. Take close-ups of every existing scratch or dent, with something in shot to show where it is.
  4. Photograph the odometer, fuel level and the warning-light panel after starting the engine.
  5. Photograph the wheels and tyres, the windscreen and the interior.
  6. Send the photos to the team on WhatsApp before pickup so they are saved with your shipment file.

Car shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon

The car ships empty of personal belongings, so do not put cartons in it thinking you will save volume. Lebanon charges customs duty and other fees on cars based on value and type, with conditions on age and specifications, and the team checks your car’s conditions and expected costs before shipping.

Air freight from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon for urgent parcels

Air freight from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon leaves from Sharjah, Dubai or Abu Dhabi airport for Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport and usually arrives within two to four days door to door, including clearance. We collect the parcel from your address in Umm Al Quwain.

  • The price is based on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
  • A clothes carton of 60 × 40 × 40 cm has a volumetric weight of 16 kg, so if it actually weighs 12 kg you pay for 16 kg.
  • A small carton of 40 × 30 × 30 cm has a volumetric weight of 6 kg; fill it with books to 9 kg and you pay for 9 kg.
  • Air suits small, dense, urgent items, not furniture.
  • Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted; ask the team about any device with a battery before packing.

Documents for shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon

Personal effects

You need a copy of your passport, a packing list of the cartons and their contents, and an address and phone number in Lebanon. A Lebanese citizen returning for good after living abroad for at least about three years can usually bring used household goods in duty-free once, if they arrive within a short period of the owner’s return (around three months) and the papers are complete: passport, a consulate letter confirming residence abroad and return, an authenticated contents list and proof of address in Lebanon. The team checks your case before shipping. New items pay customs duty and VAT.

Small commercial shipments

  • Commercial invoice.
  • Packing list.
  • Certificate of origin; goods of Arab origin may benefit from the Greater Arab Free Trade Area exemption.

  • Keep out of cartons: flammables, gas canisters and perishable food.
  • Batteries, especially lithium, have special transport rules and cannot fly as general cargo.

Delivery in Sidon, the South and the rest of Lebanon

Sidon (Saida) lies on the coast south of Beirut. Most people we deliver to there live in apartment blocks, some with small lifts, and some in the old town where cars cannot enter the lanes. A shared shipment arrives in Beirut, is cleared there, then goes down to Sidon in a small truck or van that suits the streets. Before delivery we ask which floor, whether the lift works and its size, where the vehicle can stop, and if a power cut is expected at delivery time we agree on an hour when the generator is running.

Region Examples Delivery notes
The South Sidon, Tyre, Nabatieh Apartment blocks and old quarters; extra distance from Beirut.
Beirut Achrafieh, Hamra, Verdun, Ras Beirut, Mar Mikhael, Badaro Older buildings with narrow stairs and small lifts.
Mount Lebanon Baabda, Jounieh, Byblos, Aley, Broummana, the Metn, the Chouf Steep mountain roads and winter snow.
The North Tripoli, Batroun, Zgharta Tripoli has a nearby port and a quick coastal road.
The Bekaa Zahle, Chtaura, Baalbek Close to the Al Masnaa border for road freight.

Many older Beirut buildings have narrow stairs and small lifts, and mountain towns have steep, winding roads, so the last leg is often done with a smaller truck and carried by hand, sometimes with a furniture hoist. That is exactly where dismantled furniture and medium cartons help: they go up stairs easily. Winters are rainy with snow at altitude, so wrap cartons in plastic if delivery falls in the rainy season. For larger moves from anywhere in the UAE, read the UAE to Lebanon shipping guide.

Tips before you book a small shipment

  • Let go of cheap, heavy furniture before shipping; sometimes shipping it costs more than buying the same in Lebanon.
  • Do not fill a large carton with books: books in small cartons, clothes in large ones.
  • Keep the packing list on your phone and send a copy to whoever will receive in Lebanon.
  • Ask when the next shared container closes; booking before it can save you a week or more.
  • Split it: what you need in the first days by air, the rest by sea.

Warning: Do not write only “miscellaneous items” on the packing list. A vague description pushes customs to open cartons, and in a shared shipment that can delay other people’s goods and yours with them.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon

Can I ship just a few cartons from Umm Al Quwain to Lebanon?

Yes, that is what shared shipping is for: you pay for the volume of your cartons in cubic metres, with a minimum chargeable volume the team tells you about before booking.

How do I work out my volume in cubic metres?

Measure each packed item in centimetres, multiply length by width by height and divide by one million. A 50 × 40 × 40 cm carton is 0.08 m³.

Shared sea is usually cheaper but slower; road is faster and needs complete papers for several countries. The team recommends the better fit for your volume and timing.

By shared sea about three to four weeks, sometimes a little more; by road about 8–14 days; by air two to four days to Beirut, then delivery.

Why should I photograph my car before shipping?

Can I put belongings inside the car I am shipping?

No. The car ships empty of personal belongings; put your things in the shared shipment.

How do I know where my shipment is on the way?

The team sends you a WhatsApp update at every stage: pickup, loading, sailing or border crossing, arrival and delivery.

What cannot go by air to Beirut?

Furniture does not suit air, and lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted. Small parcels, documents and clothes fly without trouble.
