Shipping from the UAE to Riyadh is done by road in most cases. The truck leaves the emirate where we collect, crosses at Al Ghuwaifat, enters Saudi Arabia at Al Batha, passes through Al Ahsa and reaches Riyadh roughly 1,060 km after leaving Dubai. Door to door, the trip takes about 2–4 days, with customs clearance included. At Al Basmah International Shipping we collect furniture, office contents, cars, commercial goods and parcels from any emirate. We deliver them to your district in Riyadh, your residential compound or your warehouse in the industrial city.

Riyadh has its own quirks that affect your shipment directly. The city is huge, with districts spread over tens of kilometres. Large trucks may only enter during set hours. Residential compounds will not open the gate without a permit arranged in advance, and warehouses work to receiving appointments. In summer the heat can harm some items in transit and during unloading. This guide is written for people shipping to Riyadh specifically. It covers every step, from collection in the UAE to the last box carried into your new home or office.
The trip to Riyadh in brief

- Distance: about 1,060 km from Dubai, less from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
- Approximate transit: 2–4 days door to door; Al Kharj and Diriyah take about the same.
- Delivery: any Riyadh district, compounds with a gate permit we arrange beforehand, and warehouses or the industrial city by appointment.
- Alternatives: sea via Dammam port and then Riyadh Dry Port for containers, and air to King Khalid International Airport for urgent cargo.
- Prices: furniture in a shared truck starts from AED 90 per cubic metre; a sedan on an open carrier starts from AED 2,000.
- To book: send the details on WhatsApp +971557643821 and we will send you the price.
How are goods shipped from the UAE to Riyadh?
Riyadh is an inland city with no seaport, so road freight is the shortest and simplest option for most shipments. The truck picks up at your door in the UAE and unloads at the recipient’s door in Riyadh. Your goods are not passed between a port, a train and another truck along the way. Sea and air still have a role, but only for certain shipments:
Road freight
The first choice for furniture, cars and most goods. Door to door in about 2–4 days, in a shared or dedicated truck.
Sea, then the dry port
For large commercial containers: Jebel Ali or Khalifa port to Dammam, then by rail to Riyadh Dry Port, or by truck from the port.
Air freight
For urgent parcels, documents and light spare parts: from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airports to King Khalid International Airport.
Not sure which option fits? Send us what you are shipping and the delivery address in Riyadh. We will compare time and cost for you and tell you plainly which one makes sense, without adding services you do not need.
The road route from the UAE to Riyadh
Whichever emirate we collect from, the trucks all take the westbound highway towards Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi and on to the Al Ghuwaifat border near Al Sila. Driving from the northern emirates to the border usually takes 4–6 hours. From Abu Dhabi it is shorter, because it is the closest major city to the crossing.
- Collection and loading in the UAE: the crew dismantles large pieces, wraps everything, numbers the boxes and loads the truck with the heavy items at the bottom.
- Al Ghuwaifat: the UAE exit declaration for the truck and cargo is completed.
- Al Batha: the shipment is processed electronically on Saudi Customs’ Fasah platform and may be inspected before release.
- Al Ahsa (Hofuf): from Al Batha the truck heads to Al Ahsa, the main stop on the way to Riyadh.
- Al Ahsa to Riyadh: the final highway stretch to Riyadh’s eastern entrances.
- Inside Riyadh: a large truck either waits for its permitted entry window, or the load is moved to a smaller truck for the final run to the district.

You don’t need to chase anyone for news. Our team messages you on WhatsApp when the truck is loaded, when it clears the border and when it nears Riyadh. Before arrival they call the recipient so someone is ready.
How long does shipping from the UAE to Riyadh take?
Transit is counted from loading day in the UAE to delivery day in Riyadh, with clearance at Al Batha included. The figures below are approximate. The border gets busy in peak seasons, and some loads are picked for inspection:
| Delivery point | Mode | Approximate transit |
|---|---|---|
| Riyadh districts (north, centre, east, west, south) | Road, door to door | 2–4 days |
| Riyadh residential compounds | Road, with a gate permit | 2–4 days + permit time if not arranged in advance |
| Al Kharj and Diriyah | Road | 2–4 days |
| Second Industrial City and Al Sulay warehouses | Road, full load or pallets | 2–4 days, subject to the warehouse appointment |
| Riyadh Dry Port | Sea to Dammam, then rail | 2–3 days sailing + handling, clearance and rail |
| King Khalid International Airport | Air | 1–3 days including clearance |
A shared load may wait a few extra days until the truck is full, while a dedicated truck leaves on your date. If the papers are incomplete when the truck reaches the border, it can sit there for days. That is why we go through the documents with you before loading.
What we ship from the UAE to Riyadh
Most of our Riyadh shipments come from four kinds of customers: families and employees moving to Riyadh for work, companies relocating offices or opening branches there, car owners, and traders supplying shops and warehouses in the city.
Moving your home to Riyadh
Many of the Kingdom’s large companies have their headquarters in Riyadh, so we often hear from employees transferred from Dubai or Abu Dhabi who want to move a whole household. We dismantle beds, wardrobes and dining tables and number every part and bag of screws. Sofas go into moving blankets and then heavy-duty stretch film. Plates and glasses are wrapped in paper and stood upright in divided boxes. Mirrors and paintings get corner guards and rigid board.
In Riyadh we reassemble what we took apart if that is part of the agreement, and every box goes to the room written on it. The job is the same whether it is a villa in Al Malqa, a flat in Al Olaya or a family house in Al Suwaidi. Before we arrive we find out the number of floors, whether there is a lift and how wide the street is, so delivery day holds no surprises.

Office and company relocation to Riyadh
Moving an office is not like moving a home. The time window is tighter, there is more equipment, and files must not go missing or get mixed up. We plan the move with the company’s coordinator ahead of time. We usually recommend a dedicated truck, so the load leaves on the agreed day instead of waiting for the truck to fill.
- Desks and storage units are dismantled and labelled by the desk or department they are going to in Riyadh.
- Computers, screens and printers are wrapped one by one and packed in padded boxes.
- Files and archives go into sealed, numbered boxes, each with a contents list.
- We book the lift and loading bay with building management in Riyadh where there is one.
- The move can be split into two runs so that work doesn’t stop at both offices at once.
Car shipping from the UAE to Riyadh
The cheapest way to ship a car is on an open carrier alongside other cars. For new, luxury or classic cars we recommend an enclosed carrier, which keeps out dust, flying stones and sun over the long desert road. We strap the wheels with dedicated tie-downs, photograph the car from every side before loading and check the photos with you on delivery in Riyadh.

Check the model year before you book. Used passenger cars more than five years old, counted back from the model year and excluding the current year, cannot be imported into Saudi Arabia. The car must also travel empty of personal belongings, so don’t pack boxes or bags inside it.
Commercial goods for Riyadh shops and warehouses
Riyadh is the largest consumer market in the Kingdom, and the goods we carry there vary widely: clothing, household goods, spare parts, building and finishing materials, restaurant and café supplies, and appliances. Large quantities go in a dedicated truck, small ones by the pallet in a shared truck. Goods are stretch-wrapped on pallets, each carrying a label that matches the packing list. That makes border inspection and the count at the receiving warehouse much easier.
Parcels and small items
A suitcase for your son studying in Riyadh, a box of books or gifts for family travel in a shared road load. That costs far less than air, and small parcels by land start from AED 45. If you have several parcels, send them together as one shipment instead of separately and you will pay less.
Equipment and machinery
Commercial kitchen equipment, generators, workshop machines and small factory units are fixed to wooden skids or crated, then loaded on an enclosed or open truck depending on size. Send us the weight, dimensions and a photo. We will choose the truck with you and plan the unloading at your Riyadh site, including whether a crane is needed.
Delivery across Riyadh’s districts
We deliver to every district of Riyadh. The delivery day and hour depend less on distance inside the city than on three things: when the truck is allowed in, the type of district or compound, and whether the recipient is ready.
| Area | Districts we often deliver to | Delivery note |
|---|---|---|
| North Riyadh | Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Narjis, Al Yasmin, Al Aqiq, Al Sahafa, Al Nakheel | Villas and newer districts; inner streets may need a smaller truck |
| Central Riyadh | Al Olaya, Al Sulimaniyah, Al Malaz, Al Murabba | Towers, offices and flats; the lift usually has to be booked with building management |
| East Riyadh | Al Rawdah, Al Nahda, Al Rimal, Al Yarmouk | Large residential districts close to the road in from Al Ahsa |
| West Riyadh | Dhahrat Laban, Irqah, Al Suwaidi, Tuwaiq | Villas and family homes; parking outside may need arranging |
| South Riyadh | Al Shifa, Al Aziziyah, Al Dar Al Baida | Close to the industrial and warehouse areas |
Truck entry times in Riyadh
Large trucks cannot enter Riyadh at every hour of the day; their access to the city is limited to set times. So we only fix the delivery appointment with the recipient once we know when the truck will reach the city’s edge. If the permitted window doesn’t suit you, or the street is narrow, we move the load to a smaller truck for the last leg. Just don’t assume a trailer can pull up outside your house at whatever time you choose without that coordination.
Delivery to residential compounds
Many people relocating to Riyadh live in gated residential compounds. These compounds won’t let a truck or crew in without a gate permit arranged beforehand. We ask for the compound name, villa number and the housing contact, and we send the truck and crew details before the appointment so the shipment isn’t stuck at the gate. Some compounds set moving hours or ask for a day’s notice or more, so tell us when you book.
Shipping to Riyadh warehouses and the industrial city
Commercial cargo bound for Riyadh usually ends up in one of two places: Riyadh’s Second Industrial City or the Al Sulay warehouse district. Either way, the warehouse receiving appointment governs delivery more than anything else.
- We take the warehouse name, location and the receiving contact, and ask about receiving hours and whether a slot must be booked.
- We check whether there is a loading dock or forklift on site, or whether we need to bring crew and equipment for unloading.
- Pallets are loaded in unloading order, and the driver carries the packing list for the warehouse to sign on receipt.
- If the goods are split between several Riyadh addresses, we agree the drop sequence between shops in advance.

Keep in mind that the importer in Saudi Arabia needs a commercial registration for commercial imports. If the goods are consigned to a Riyadh company, make sure its details and registration are ready before loading, because clearance at Al Batha is done in its name.
Sea freight to Riyadh via Dammam port and the dry port
Most private customers don’t need the sea route to Riyadh; the road is shorter and simpler. Companies shipping full containers sometimes choose it, though. The container sails from Jebel Ali or Khalifa port to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam in about 2–3 days. From there it goes by rail to Riyadh Dry Port, or by truck straight from Dammam to the warehouse.
Sea makes sense for very heavy cargo or large repeat volumes, and for importers used to clearing at the dry port. For ordinary loads, road is usually faster door to door because it cuts out port and rail handling. Send us the cargo type, weight and container size and we will compare both routes before you decide.
Air freight from the UAE to Riyadh
Air freight is for the times when speed matters more than cost. Think of original documents needed for a transaction in Riyadh, a spare part for a machine that has stopped, samples for a client or light stock for a shop opening. The shipment flies from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airport to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. It usually arrives within 1–3 days including clearance, and we can deliver it to your Riyadh address if you ask.

- Volumetric weight: you pay on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so a large light box can cost more than expected.
- Restrictions: lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted on aircraft, and some are refused.
- What doesn’t suit air: furniture and large appliances. Road is far cheaper for them and only a few days slower.
- Price: depends on weight, dimensions and cargo type; send the details on WhatsApp and we will send you the price.
Packing for Riyadh’s heat
Riyadh summers are extremely hot. Your shipment spends hours in the truck on the highway and then time in the open during unloading. Sofas and wardrobes cope fine, but some items suffer unless they are packed and placed with care:
- Electronics: wrapped in insulating material and placed deep in the truck, away from sun-facing walls; let them cool before switching them on.
- Candles, cosmetics and perfumes: can melt or spoil, so they go in sealed, insulated boxes; small quantities are better carried with you.
- Some foods: chocolate and heat-sensitive food should not travel in an ordinary furniture load; ask us first.
- Paintings and polished wood: wrapped in layers that prevent rubbing and the condensation caused by temperature swings.
- Unloading time: in summer we prefer the cooler hours whenever truck entry times allow.
The usual packing rules still apply. Beds and wardrobes are dismantled and numbered, and screw bags are labelled with the piece they belong to. Fridges and washing machines are emptied and dried before loading, and large or fragile valuables go in wooden crates.
Documents for shipping to Riyadh
Clearance at Al Batha is done electronically through the Fasah platform, so you don’t need to go to the border yourself. We collect the papers from you before loading, depending on the shipment:
Furniture and personal effects
Copy of the owner’s passport, Saudi ID, iqama or residence visa, a detailed contents list in Arabic or English, and the recipient’s details in Riyadh.
Car
Registration (mulkiya), export certificate and plate removal from RTA in Dubai or the licensing authority in your emirate, and the owner’s passport and ID.
Commercial goods
Commercial invoice (certified when required), packing list, certificate of origin, SABER certificate for covered products, SFDA requirements for food, cosmetics and medicines, and the importer’s commercial registration.
Used personal effects belonging to someone moving to live in Riyadh are treated as personal belongings when the papers are complete, while new items in commercial quantities are dutiable. Goods of UAE origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty. Saudi VAT of 15% applies to imports. Special cases, such as a car with unusual specifications or a product new to the market, we check with you before shipping.
Prohibited and restricted items
We never load anything Saudi regulations bar from entry, and we ask about anything that needs a permit before we pack it:
- Narcotics and psychotropic substances of any kind.
- Alcohol and pork products.
- Weapons and ammunition without permits.
- Counterfeit goods and gambling equipment.
- Drones and some medicines, which need prior permits.
Warning: Don’t hide anything inside furniture boxes or in the car. One undeclared item can hold the whole shipment at Al Batha and delay all your belongings, not just that item. If in doubt, ask us before packing.
Shipping prices from the UAE to Riyadh
These starting prices help you estimate the cost. The final price depends on volume, weight, the delivery point in Riyadh, packing and documents:
| Shipment type | Price |
|---|---|
| Furniture and household goods in a shared truck | Starts from AED 90 per cubic metre |
| Small parcels by land | Start from AED 45 |
| Sedan on an open carrier | Starts from AED 2,000 |
| SUV on an open carrier | Starts from AED 2,750 |
| Car on an enclosed carrier | Starts from AED 4,100 |
| Dedicated truck, office move, container, air freight | Send the details on WhatsApp for a price |
What makes the cost go up or down?
- Volume and weight: furniture is priced per cubic metre, heavy goods by weight.
- Truck type: shared is cheaper; dedicated is faster and leaves on your date.
- Delivery point: outlying parts of Riyadh, Al Kharj, or a transfer to a smaller truck for the district all count.
- Floors and lifts: high floors with no lift, or the need for a furniture hoist, add cost.
- Packing, dismantling and reassembly: the amount of material, wooden crates and reassembly in Riyadh.
- Documents and duties: used personal effects and commercial goods are treated differently for duty and VAT.
The clearer your photos and item list, the more accurate the price, and the less chance of it changing on loading day. You can also fill in the quote request form and we will reply on WhatsApp.
How to ship with us to Riyadh, step by step
- Send us on WhatsApp what you are shipping, the emirate we collect from and the district or warehouse in Riyadh, with photos if possible.
- You receive the price, the suggested shipping method, the approximate transit time and the documents needed.
- Tell us if delivery is to a compound, an office building or a warehouse so we arrange the permit or appointment in advance.
- We agree a collection day, and the crew comes to dismantle, pack and load.
- We prepare the clearance documents and send you a WhatsApp update at each stage.
- We call the recipient in Riyadh before arrival and set the time around the truck’s entry window.
- We unload, reassemble what was agreed, and the recipient checks the goods against the contents list.
Tips before you ship to Riyadh
- Book early in moving season, such as the end of the school year, because Riyadh-bound trucks fill up fast.
- If you will live in a compound, ask its management about the permit process as soon as you sign the lease, not on arrival day.
- Make sure the recipient in Riyadh answers their phone around delivery days; delivery slips when we can’t reach them.
- Write the contents list precisely; never just “miscellaneous items”. A clear description shortens clearance.
- Carry jewellery, cash and important documents with you rather than in the shipment.
- If you have several parcels or batches of goods, combine them into one shipment to save money.
From the road: most delays on Riyadh shipments aren’t caused by distance. They come from a compound permit nobody requested, a warehouse slot nobody booked, or a missing paper at Al Batha. Sort those three out before loading and leave the rest to us.
