Al Basmah International Shipping is a shipping company from Sharjah to Riyadh that collects your goods at our Sharjah branch in Industrial Area 18, or from your store, shop or home anywhere in Sharjah, and drives them through the Al Ghuwaifat and Al Batha border crossings and Al Ahsa to your warehouse in Al Sulay, the Second Industrial City or your shop in Riyadh, in roughly two to four days including clearance. Most of what we carry on this route is wholesale stock: fabrics, garments and household goods. Alongside it we move the furniture of employees relocating to Riyadh and cars on open or enclosed carriers. When needed, short-term storage in Sharjah before shipping can be arranged, and air freight to King Khalid Airport is available for samples and urgent orders.

How does a shipment travel from Industrial Area 18 to Riyadh?
A shipment from Sharjah to Riyadh usually travels the whole way by road, with no port or ship involved. The truck heads west past Dubai and Abu Dhabi to the Al Ghuwaifat crossing in the far west of Abu Dhabi emirate, near Al Sila. That leg normally takes four to six hours from the northern emirates, depending on traffic and departure time. After exit formalities on the UAE side, the truck crosses to the Saudi Al Batha crossing, where clearance is done electronically on the Fasah platform, then continues to Al Ahsa (Hofuf) and on to Riyadh.
- Loading in Sharjah: at the branch or at your location, with cartons checked against the packing list.
- Road to Al Ghuwaifat: about 4–6 hours from Sharjah to the border.
- Al Batha crossing: customs clearance through Fasah, document review and inspection.
- Al Ahsa, then Riyadh: the inland highway to the eastern entrance of Riyadh.
- Delivery: at a time agreed with the consignee, in line with truck entry times in the city.
Dubai to Riyadh is roughly 1,060 km by road, and starting from Sharjah adds a short distance. What really decides the day your goods arrive is not the mileage but three things: complete documents before loading, the type of shipment (shared or dedicated truck), and the delivery slot available inside Riyadh. For the wider picture across all the emirates, our UAE to Riyadh shipping guide covers the route in more depth.
Sharjah wholesale traders: fabrics, garments and goods for Riyadh shops
A large share of the Sharjah–Riyadh traffic comes from wholesale traders supplying shops and warehouses in the capital: fabric rolls, abayas and ready-made garments, shoes and bags, household and kitchen goods, accessories and shop supplies. This kind of stock has its own logic, because its value is tied to the season. Eid stock that arrives after Eid sells at half price, and a back-to-school range is no use if it lands in the middle of term. So the first thing we ask a trader is: when do you need the goods on the shelves? Then we work backwards to the right loading date.
Many traders buy from several suppliers in Sharjah, each in a different area. Instead of sending a truck to every supplier, each one can drop his share at our Industrial Area 18 branch. We count the cartons, match them with their invoices and put them in one shipment with one packing list. That saves you the cost of several trips and makes clearance at Al Batha easier, because all the paperwork is in the name of one consignee.
How we prepare fabric rolls and garment cartons
- Fabric rolls: each roll is stretch-wrapped against dust and moisture and loaded flat and tightly stacked, so the edges do not fold and the cardboard core does not deform.
- Ready-made garments: in sealed cartons, each marked with its number, piece count and sizes, in the same order as the packing list.
- Shoes and bags: kept in their original boxes inside stronger outer cartons, because a crushed box lowers the value of the product on display.
- Household goods and glassware: cardboard dividers between pieces, and heavy cartons always at the bottom of the pallet.

Shared load or a full truck?
Shared load
For a limited number of cartons or pallets. You pay only for your volume, and the shipment may wait a few days until the truck is full.
5- or 7-ton dyna
For a trader with a medium quantity who wants a fixed date; it gets into Riyadh districts more easily than a trailer.
Closed trailer 12–13.6 m
For large quantities or several suppliers in one load; it leaves on the day you choose.
Where do we deliver your goods in Riyadh?
Delivery in Riyadh depends on who is receiving. A wholesaler usually receives at a warehouse, a shop owner wants the goods at the shop door, and a company may ask for delivery to its store in the industrial city. These are the commercial delivery points we reach most often:
Al Sulay warehouses
A large warehouse district in south-east Riyadh that lorries and trailers can enter, and most warehouses there have a proper unloading area.
Second Industrial City
Factories and company stores; an advance receiving appointment and the name of the person in charge at the gate are usually required.
Shops in central Riyadh
In Al Malaz, Al Murabba, Al Olaya, Al Aziziyah and elsewhere; we deliver at a time trucks are allowed in, and may use a smaller vehicle for the last leg.
Riyadh Dry Port
For containers that arrive by sea at Dammam port and are railed to Riyadh, when the quantity is very large.
Large trucks have restricted entry times inside Riyadh, so we do not give an exact delivery time before the truck has crossed the border. As it gets close we contact the consignee to fix the hour. If the shop is on a narrow street, or the time falls in a window when trailers cannot enter, we transfer the goods to a smaller vehicle for the final stretch. If your warehouse has a forklift, let us know in advance: pallets come off in minutes. If not, we arrange manual unloading.
Documents for commercial cargo from Sharjah to Riyadh
Paperwork, not the road, is what most often holds commercial goods at Al Batha. Clearance in Saudi Arabia is electronic through the Fasah platform, and any gap shows up immediately and stops the truck until it is fixed. That is why we ask for the documents and check them before loading:
- Commercial invoice with items, quantities and values, certified when required.
- Packing list that matches the actual contents, carton by carton.
- Certificate of origin; goods of UAE or GCC origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty.
- Commercial registration of the consignee in Saudi Arabia, which commercial imports require.
- SABER certificate for many consumer products, depending on how the item is classified.
- SFDA requirements for perfumes, cosmetics, food and medicines.
VAT and the customs exemption
Being exempt from customs duty does not mean entering at no cost. Saudi VAT of 15% applies to imports and is paid by the importer. The duty exemption covers goods of UAE or GCC origin with a GCC certificate of origin; goods made outside the Gulf and bought in Sharjah should be reviewed with the team before shipping, so you know the full cost. Details for commercial cargo to the other Saudi cities are in our Sharjah to Saudi Arabia shipping guide.
Short-term storage in Sharjah before shipping
Not every shipment is ready to travel on the same day. Sometimes the goods are ready but the documents are not, and sometimes the warehouse in Riyadh is not ready to receive yet. In those cases, short-term storage before shipping can be arranged; ask the team on WhatsApp what is available for your shipment and its size. It is most often requested when:
- a trader is collecting stock from several suppliers and wants it all to leave on one truck;
- a shipment is waiting for a SABER certificate or another document before it can move;
- a warehouse or shop in Riyadh has not opened yet or is not ready to receive;
- a family has handed back its Sharjah flat before getting the keys to its Riyadh home.

The idea is that the goods stay packed and numbered exactly as they will be shipped, so nothing has to be opened or re-sorted at loading. We do not quote storage periods or prices here because they vary from one shipment to another; send the details and the team will reply.
What else do we ship from Sharjah to Riyadh?
Besides traders’ stock, many Sharjah residents move to Riyadh because their companies’ headquarters are there. These are the other shipment types we handle on this route:
- Employee and family furniture: a whole flat or selected rooms, dismantled, packed and delivered in the new district.
- Office moves: desks, chairs, filing cabinets and computers for a company opening a Riyadh branch.
- Cars: sedans, SUVs and pickups on an open or enclosed carrier.
- Small parcels: one or two cartons in a shared load, starting from 45 AED by road.
- Equipment: sewing and embroidery machines, restaurant equipment, small workshop machines.
- Trade samples: a few pieces a trader needs quickly to show customers, best sent by air.
Collection areas in Sharjah
We collect from every part of Sharjah, and each area has its own character that affects loading day:
| Area | What we usually collect | What we arrange before loading |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial Areas 1 to 18 and Al Saja’a | Wholesale stock, equipment, workshop cartons | Truck parking at the store and a forklift if available |
| Sharjah Airport Free Zone (SAIF Zone) and Hamriyah Free Zone | Free-zone company goods | Free-zone exit papers before the truck arrives |
| Al Qasimia, Al Khan, Al Majaz and Al Taawun | Flat furniture from towers | Lift booking and building management permit |
| Al Nahda, Al Mamzar and Al Rahmaniya | Flats and villas | Number of floors, lift size or need for a hoist |
| Muwaileh and University City | Student and staff flats, villas | A suitable access time and nearby parking |
If your goods are in Dubai we can collect them too; our Dubai branch is in Deira, Port Saeed Street, and details are in our Dubai to Riyadh shipping guide.
Car shipping from Sharjah to Riyadh
An employee moving to Riyadh usually flies, and wants the car to follow without driving the whole way. We load the car on an open multi-car carrier, the cheaper option, or on an enclosed carrier where the car is covered and kept away from sun and dust, which suits newer or premium cars and delicate paintwork. Small and compact cars take less room on an enclosed carrier, but the price is per car.

Before booking, check the age rule: a used passenger car imported into Saudi Arabia must not be more than 5 years old from its model year, counted back and excluding the current year. Documents needed:
- the car registration (mulkiya) issued in the UAE;
- an export certificate and plate surrender through the Sharjah vehicle licensing authority;
- a copy of the owner’s passport or ID;
- the car must travel empty of personal belongings.
A car under bank finance, registered to a company, or whose owner is outside the UAE is a special case that we check with the team before shipping. In Riyadh we deliver the car to the home or an agreed location, and if the home is inside a residential compound we need the gate permit in advance.
How long does a shipment take from Sharjah to Riyadh?
The times below are approximate, door to door, including clearance by road, for a dedicated truck leaving on your date. A shared load may wait a few extra days until the truck is full:
| Delivery point | Approximate time | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Central Riyadh: Al Olaya, Al Sulimaniyah, Al Malaz, Al Murabba | 2–4 days | Delivery slot depends on truck entry times |
| North Riyadh: Al Malqa, Hittin, Al Narjis, Al Yasmin, Al Sahafa | 2–4 days | Residential compounds need a gate permit in advance |
| East, west and south Riyadh: Al Rawdah, Al Nahda, Dhahrat Laban, Al Suwaidi, Al Shifa | 2–4 days | A smaller vehicle may be used for the last leg |
| Al Sulay warehouses and the Second Industrial City | 2–4 days | An advance appointment with the warehouse keeper is best |
| Al Kharj and Diriyah | 2–4 days | Close to Riyadh |
| Qassim and Hail (beyond Riyadh) | 3–5 days | The shipment passes through Riyadh |
| Air freight to King Khalid Airport | 1–3 days | For samples and light parcels |
Sea freight for large quantities
When the quantity reaches full containers, such as a trader bringing in a whole season’s stock, sea freight is possible from Jebel Ali or Khalifa port to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, about two to three days’ sailing. The container then goes by rail to Riyadh Dry Port or by truck to your warehouse, plus port handling and clearance time. On this route the sea does not save time compared with the road, but it can suit very large volumes. Ask for a price with the number of containers and the type of goods.
Air freight from Sharjah Airport to King Khalid Airport
Air freight is the choice when time matters more than cost: samples for a trader waiting on a customer’s approval, missing pieces from an order that went by road, documents or light goods needed before a fixed date. The shipment is prepared in Sharjah, palletised and wrapped, then flown from Sharjah Airport (or Dubai or Abu Dhabi, depending on the available flight) to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, usually arriving within 1–3 days including clearance.

- Suits: samples, light parcels, small high-value items, documents.
- Does not suit: large furniture or heavy fabric rolls, which cost far more by air than by road.
- Air restrictions: lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes have special rules on flights, so tell us about them before packing.
- Price: send the weight and dimensions on WhatsApp and the price comes back to you.
Packing for the Riyadh heat
Riyadh is very hot in summer, and the truck covers more than a thousand kilometres under the sun. Some goods suffer from that more than others, so we choose the packing by item:
| Item | How we prepare it |
|---|---|
| Fabric rolls | Each roll stretch-wrapped, loaded flat and tightly stacked |
| Garments and abayas | Sealed, numbered cartons with a size breakdown |
| Perfumes and cosmetics | Padded cartons loaded away from the hot truck walls, in line with SFDA requirements |
| Candles and wax products | Insulated packing, and never left in the open at delivery |
| Electronics | Original boxes inside an outer carton with bubble wrap |
| Household furniture | Dismantled, wrapped in bubble wrap and moving blankets, with corner guards |
Tip: ask your Riyadh warehouse keeper to bring heat-sensitive goods inside as soon as they are unloaded, and not leave them on the ramp at midday.
Prohibited and restricted items
Check this list before packing, because one prohibited item can stop the whole shipment at the border:
- Prohibited: narcotics, alcohol, pork products, counterfeit goods, gambling equipment.
- Prohibited without permits: weapons and ammunition.
- Prior permit needed: drones and some medicines.
- Special requirements: food, cosmetics and medicines (SFDA), and many consumer products (SABER).

| Sedan on an open carrier | 2,000 AED |

What raises or lowers the cost?
- Volume versus weight: light, bulky goods such as garments are usually charged by volume; heavy, compact goods such as metal tools may be charged by weight, and the higher of the two applies.
- Shared or dedicated: a shared truck is cheaper but waits to fill; a dedicated one costs more and leaves on your date.
- Combining suppliers: one shipment from several suppliers costs less than several small ones.
- Delivery point: an Al Sulay warehouse a lorry can drive into costs less than a shop on a narrow street that needs a smaller vehicle.
- Packing and pallets: the more preparation the goods need, the higher the cost; hand them over well organised and it drops.
- Documents: missing papers mean waiting at the border, and waiting has a cost.
- Storage before shipping: if you need it, it is part of the price.
How to ship from Sharjah to Riyadh, step by step
- Send on WhatsApp the type and rough quantity of goods, the collection address in Sharjah and the delivery address in Riyadh.
- You receive an initial price, and we agree on a shared load or a dedicated truck.
- You send the invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and the consignee’s details and commercial registration, and we review them before loading.
- You drop the goods at the Industrial Area 18 branch or we collect them from you; we measure, prepare and number them.
- The truck heads to Al Ghuwaifat and then Al Batha, and the team updates you on WhatsApp at every stage.
- After clearance we contact the consignee in Riyadh to fix a suitable delivery time.
- The goods are delivered and the carton count is checked against the packing list.
Tips for wholesale traders before their first Riyadh shipment
- Describe each item clearly on the invoice instead of a general phrase like “assorted garments”; vague descriptions lengthen inspection.
- Make sure the carton count on the packing list matches the real count; one carton too many or too few is enough to stop the shipment.
- Ask about SABER for your items before buying from the supplier, not after loading.
- Plan the shipping date from your selling date in Riyadh, and leave a margin for possible waiting days on a shared load.
- Give us the consignee’s Riyadh number and a backup number; delivery is delayed when nobody answers.
Warning: Do not slip goods that are not on the invoice into the cartons “because it is only a few pieces”. Any undeclared item can delay the entire shipment at Al Batha.
