The usual way to move goods from the UAE to Jeddah is by truck. It leaves the UAE at Al Ghuwaifat, enters Saudi Arabia at Al Batha, passes Al Ahsa and Riyadh, then crosses the central plains west to the Hijaz highlands near Taif before dropping down to Jeddah on the Red Sea coast. From Dubai that is roughly 2,000 km. Door to door, from your address in the UAE to the recipient’s door in Jeddah, the trip takes about 3–5 days, customs clearance included. Traders shipping full containers have a second option worth comparing: by sea from Jebel Ali to Jeddah Islamic Port.

At Al Basmah International Shipping we collect from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Al Ain. That can be a whole household, a car, stock for a shop or warehouse, or a few parcels for family. We deliver to Obhur, Al Shati, Al Rawdah, Al Hamra and Al Safa, to the narrow lanes of historic Al Balad, to warehouses south of the city, and to Jeddah Islamic Port and King Abdulaziz International Airport. The same trip also reaches Makkah, Taif and Madinah. This guide is about Jeddah specifically: when road is enough and when sea pays off, how to protect your things from a humid coastal city, and how deliveries work in Corniche towers and in the old quarter.
Before the trip to Jeddah
- Road route: UAE → Al Ghuwaifat → Al Batha → Al Ahsa → Riyadh → Taif → Jeddah, about 2,000 km from Dubai.
- Transit: about 3–5 days door to door; Makkah and Taif take roughly the same.
- Sea: Jebel Ali to Jeddah Islamic Port in about 5–7 days of sailing, plus port handling and clearance.
- Air: for urgent, light shipments to King Abdulaziz International Airport in 1–3 days including clearance.
- What’s different about Jeddah: high humidity that calls for sealed packing, towers where the lift must be booked, and Al Balad lanes that need a smaller vehicle.
- Prices: furniture in a shared truck starts from 90 AED per cubic metre; a sedan starts from 2,000 AED.
- To book: send the details on WhatsApp +971557643821 and we’ll send you the price.
Road or sea? How your shipment gets from the UAE to Jeddah
For most private customers the answer is road. Household furniture, cars, parcels and mid-sized shop orders travel by truck from door to door without passing through a port or changing vehicles. Sea becomes competitive when the load is a full container of heavy goods, the importer in Jeddah is used to clearing at the port, and the schedule can take a few extra days. Air is for the small item that can’t wait.
Here are the two options side by side, the way we explain them when customers ask:
| Point of comparison | Road freight | Sea freight (Jebel Ali → Jeddah Islamic Port) |
|---|---|---|
| Approximate time | 3–5 days door to door, clearance included | 5–7 days sailing, then port handling, clearance and delivery from the port |
| Collection and delivery | From your door in the UAE to the recipient’s door in Jeddah on one truck | Container trucked to the UAE port, then hauled from Jeddah port to the warehouse |
| Where it clears | Al Batha border via the Fasah platform | Jeddah Islamic Port via the Fasah platform |
| Best for | Household goods, cars, parcels, palletised goods or full truckloads | Full containers of heavy goods or large repeat volumes |
| Handling | Loaded in the UAE, unloaded in Jeddah — that’s it | Loaded and discharged at two ports, with waiting time in container yards |
| Humidity exposure | Lower, as the load doesn’t sit in open yards | Higher, as the container spends days at sea and in the port yard |
| Schedule flexibility | A dedicated truck leaves on your date; a shared one once it’s full | Tied to the sailing schedule |
| How it’s priced | Per cubic metre, per truck or by car type | Per container, plus port, clearance and inland haulage charges |
The road route from the UAE to Jeddah, stage by stage
The first half of the trip to Jeddah is the Riyadh road. Then the truck heads west for a second leg of about the same length. That’s why Jeddah takes a day or two longer than Riyadh — the difference is distance, not paperwork.
- Collection in the UAE: our team comes to your address, dismantles the large pieces, packs them with Jeddah’s humidity in mind, numbers the boxes and labels each one with its room.
- To Al Ghuwaifat: the truck drives west through Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi to the border post near Al Sila. From the northern emirates that takes about 4–6 hours; from Abu Dhabi, less.
- Al Batha: the shipment is processed electronically on Saudi Customs’ Fasah platform and may be selected for inspection before release.
- Al Ahsa, then Riyadh: from Al Batha to Hofuf, then the highway to Riyadh — roughly the halfway point.
- West to the Hijaz: from Riyadh the truck crosses a long stretch of the central plains until it reaches the Hijaz highlands around Taif.
- Down to Jeddah: from Taif the road descends towards Makkah and then Jeddah, so Taif and Makkah deliveries are made on the same run without a detour.
- Delivery in Jeddah: we call the recipient before arrival, set the time to suit the district and building, and switch to a smaller vehicle for the last leg if needed.

Our team sends you a WhatsApp update at each of these stages; all the recipient needs to do is keep their phone on around delivery day.
How long does shipping from the UAE to Jeddah take?
About 3–5 days by road, from loading day in the UAE to delivery day in Jeddah, with clearance at Al Batha included. The figures below are approximate: the border gets busy in certain seasons and some loads are picked for inspection.
| Delivery point | Method | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Jeddah districts (north, centre and south) | Road, door to door | 3–5 days |
| Corniche towers and residential compounds | Road, with lift booking or gate permit | 3–5 days + arranging time if not booked ahead |
| Historic Jeddah (Al Balad) | Road, then a smaller vehicle for the last leg | 3–5 days |
| Warehouses and industrial areas south of Jeddah | Road, full truck or pallets | 3–5 days, depending on the receiving slot |
| Jeddah Islamic Port | Sea from Jebel Ali | 5–7 days sailing + handling and clearance |
| King Abdulaziz International Airport | Air | 1–3 days including clearance |
| Makkah and Taif | Road, on the same route | 3–5 days |
| Madinah and Yanbu | Road | 3–5 days |
A shared load may wait a few extra days until a Jeddah-bound truck is full; a dedicated truck leaves on the date you choose. The most common cause of delay at the border is a missing document, which is why we go through the paperwork with you before anything is loaded.
What we ship from the UAE to Jeddah
Jeddah is the commercial gateway to the Hijaz and a city many people move to for work, so the loads heading there vary a lot: families returning to Jeddah after years in the UAE, employees relocating, traders supplying its markets and warehouses, car owners, and families sending bags and gifts to relatives.
Moving household furniture to Jeddah
Household goods make up most of what we load for Jeddah. We take apart beds, wardrobes and dining tables, bag the screws and label each bag with its piece, and wrap sofas in moving blankets followed by a sealed outer layer. What changes for Jeddah is the humidity: we put moisture absorbers in wardrobes and drawers, wrap wood and fabric tightly so there are no pockets where damp can collect, and stack cartons inside the truck rather than on the floor.
In Jeddah we reassemble whatever we took apart if it’s part of the agreement and put every box in the room written on it, having checked beforehand the number of floors, the service lift and where the truck can stop.

Car shipping from the UAE to Jeddah
Cars go on an open carrier with other vehicles, which is the most economical option, or in an enclosed carrier for new, luxury or classic cars. The road to Jeddah is long and runs through desert and then mountains, and an enclosed carrier keeps paintwork safe from dust, grit and sun. We strap the wheels down, photograph the car from every side before loading and check the photos with you at delivery in Jeddah.

Check the age rule before you book: used passenger cars can’t be imported into Saudi Arabia if they are more than five years old from the model year, not counting the current year. The car must be handed over empty of personal belongings. If your car is an unusual case — modified, say, or registered to someone else — check it with our team before shipping.
Commercial goods for Jeddah markets and warehouses
We carry clothing and abayas, registered perfumes and cosmetics, household goods, spare parts, building and finishing materials, and supplies for restaurants and hotels. Small quantities go by the pallet on a shared truck; large ones on a dedicated truck or a 12–13.6 m closed trailer. Every pallet is shrink-wrapped and labelled to match the packing list, which makes inspection at the border and counting at the Jeddah warehouse straightforward.
Parcels and bags
A suitcase for your son studying in Jeddah, boxes of clothes and books, or gifts before Ramadan and Eid: we add them to a shared Jeddah-bound truck so they arrive for far less than air. Small parcels by land start from 45 AED, and if you have several, send them together as one shipment to pay less.
Equipment and shop fit-outs
Display fridges, commercial kitchen equipment, generators and workshop machines are fixed on wooden bases or crated. Send a photo with the weight and dimensions, and we’ll pick the truck and tell you whether the Jeddah site needs a crane.
Where we collect in the UAE
Our two branches are in Deira, Dubai (Port Saeed Street) and in Sharjah’s Industrial Area 18. Our team reaches any address in the UAE, and each emirate has its own Jeddah guide with collection details and the distance to the border:
- Dubai to Jeddah: from Deira, Al Barsha, Dubai Marina, JLT and Jebel Ali Free Zone.
- Abu Dhabi to Jeddah: from Khalifa City, Al Reem Island and Mussafah — Abu Dhabi is the closest major city to Al Ghuwaifat.
- Sharjah to Jeddah: from Al Nahda, Al Majaz and the industrial areas, where our Industrial Area 18 branch is.
- Ajman to Jeddah: from Al Nuaimiya, Al Jurf and the free zone.
- Umm Al Quwain to Jeddah: from the city and its industrial area.
- Ras Al Khaimah to Jeddah: from the city and its industrial areas, the furthest of the northern emirates from the border.
- Fujairah to Jeddah: from the east coast, with the road crossing the mountains inland before heading west.
- Al Ain to Jeddah: from Al Ain’s districts and industrial areas.
Delivery in Jeddah: districts, towers and Al Balad
We deliver to every district in Jeddah, but how we deliver changes from one area to the next. The city stretches along the sea, with tall residential towers in the north and on the Corniche, family neighbourhoods in the centre, tight old lanes in the south, and warehouse and industrial zones on its southern edge.
| Area | Districts we deliver to often | What needs arranging |
|---|---|---|
| North Jeddah | Obhur (north and south), Al Shati, Al Muhammadiyah, Al Naeem, Al Basateen, Al Zahraa, Al Salamah, Al Rawdah, Al Khalidiyah | Seafront villas and compounds, and towers where the service lift must be booked |
| Central Jeddah | Al Hamra, Al Andalus, Al Rehab, Al Safa, Al Marwah, Al Faisaliyah, Al Aziziyah | Apartment blocks; agreeing where the truck stops on busy streets |
| South Jeddah | Al Balad (historic Jeddah), Al Ruwais, Al Sanabel | Narrow lanes that need a smaller vehicle or hand-carrying for the last stretch |
| Southern outskirts | Industrial areas and warehouses | A receiving appointment, plus a loading dock or forklift |
Towers and compounds on the Corniche and in the north
Towers in Al Shati, Obhur and along the Corniche have their own rules: a dedicated furniture lift, set moving hours and sometimes a day’s notice. Give us the tower name, flat number and the building manager’s number, and we arrange the slot before the truck leaves the UAE. We measure long items such as large sofas and wardrobe panels against the lift in advance, so if something won’t fit we find out before delivery day, not during it. Compounds along the Obhur road only open the gate with a permit, so we send the driver and truck details ahead of the appointment.
Historic Jeddah (Al Balad)
Al Balad is old Jeddah: houses built shoulder to shoulder and lanes no removal truck can enter. For a home or shop there, the large truck parks on the nearest wide street and we finish with a small dyna or by carrying pieces by hand. We also ask about stairs, since many Al Balad buildings have no lift, and we prefer early-morning deliveries there before the markets fill up.
Warehouses and industrial areas south of Jeddah
Commercial cargo usually ends up in warehouses south of the city. We take the warehouse location and the receiving contact, ask about receiving hours and whether there’s a dock or forklift, stack pallets in unloading order and send the packing list with the driver. If the goods go to several shops across Jeddah, we agree the drop order before the truck sets off.
Sea freight from Jebel Ali to Jeddah Islamic Port
Jeddah Islamic Port is Saudi Arabia’s largest Red Sea port and the natural sea gateway for anyone importing in volume to the west of the Kingdom. A container leaves Jebel Ali and reaches Jeddah after about 5–7 days of sailing, then goes through port handling and clearance on Fasah before being trucked to the importer’s warehouse.

Sea is worth comparing for a full container of heavy goods such as building materials or ceramics, or for a regular importer whose warehouse is near the port. For household furniture we usually advise against it: the container spends days in heat and humidity and is handled more than once, while road gets it there sooner with fewer loadings. Send us the goods, weight and container size, and we’ll put real numbers on both routes.
Air freight from the UAE to Jeddah
Air freight is for times when speed matters more than cost: original documents for a transaction in Jeddah, a spare part for a stopped machine, samples for a client, or light stock for a shop opening. Shipments leave Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airport for King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and usually arrive within 1–3 days including clearance. We can then deliver to your address in Jeddah if you ask.

- Chargeable weight: you pay on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so a big light carton can cost more than expected.
- Restrictions: lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted on aircraft, and some aren’t accepted at all.
- Not for air: furniture and large appliances — road is far cheaper and only a few days slower.
- Price: depends on weight, size and type of goods, so send the details on WhatsApp and we’ll send you the price.
Packing for Jeddah’s humidity
Jeddah is humid for most of the year, and damp doesn’t show on delivery day — it shows a week later: marks on fabric, swollen chipboard, rusty hinges and musty boxes. So we pack Jeddah loads with extra care:
- Sofas and mattresses: moving blanket first, then sealed plastic film; mattresses go in dedicated bags closed at both ends.
- Wood and wardrobes: a wrap against rubbing and moisture, with moisture absorbers in drawers and shelves.
- Electronics: in their original boxes if you have them, or padded cartons with silica gel; don’t switch them on straight after unloading — let them reach room temperature first.
- Metal items and tools: dried and wrapped, as humidity speeds up rust on tools, bicycles and table legs.
- Clothes and books: in well-sealed cartons rather than open bags, with absorbers between them.
- At unloading: cartons never sit on open ground or the pavement; they go straight indoors or onto pallets.
- After arrival: open the wraps on sofas and mattresses within a day or two in an air-conditioned room so no trapped moisture stays inside.
Fridges and washing machines are emptied and dried a full day before loading: leftover water is the first thing to turn mouldy on a trip to a humid city.
What to carry yourself and what to ship
Some things belong in your hand luggage, not the truck — either because they’re valuable or because you’ll need them before the furniture arrives:
- Passports, IDs, work and tenancy contracts, and original certificates.
- Jewellery, cash and valuable watches.
- Daily medication, with prescriptions.
- Your laptop and any drives holding work files.
- Clothes and essentials for your first days in Jeddah, as the shipment may arrive a few days after you.
Everything else ships: furniture, kitchenware, appliances, books, seasonal clothes, children’s toys and décor.
Documents for shipping from the UAE to Jeddah
Clearance is electronic on the Fasah platform — at Al Batha for road shipments, or at Jeddah Islamic Port for sea — and you don’t need to be there in person. We collect the documents before loading, depending on what you’re shipping:
| Shipment type | Documents required |
|---|---|
| Used household goods and personal effects | Copy of the owner’s passport, Saudi ID, iqama or residence visa, a detailed inventory in Arabic or English, and the recipient’s details in Jeddah |
| Car | Vehicle registration (mulkiya), UAE export certificate and plate removal through the RTA in Dubai or the relevant authority in your emirate, and the owner’s passport and ID |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice (certified when required), packing list, certificate of origin, SABER certificate for covered products, SFDA requirements for food, cosmetics and medicines, and a commercial registration for the importer in Saudi Arabia |
Used belongings of someone moving to live in Jeddah are treated as personal effects once the paperwork is complete; new items in commercial quantities are dutiable. Goods of UAE origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty, and Saudi VAT of 15% applies on imports. Many traders in Jeddah mix up the two: the duty exemption doesn’t cancel the VAT.
Prohibited and restricted items
We don’t load anything Saudi regulations bar from entry, and we ask about anything needing a permit before we pack it:
- Narcotics and psychotropic substances of any kind.
- Alcohol and pork products.
- Weapons and ammunition without permits.
- Counterfeit goods and gambling equipment.
- Drones and some medicines, which need prior permits.
Warning: Don’t tuck anything undeclared among the furniture or inside the car. One prohibited item can hold the whole shipment at Al Batha or Jeddah port, and everything else on the truck waits with it.

What decides the cost of shipping to Jeddah?
- Volume and weight: furniture is usually priced per cubic metre, heavy goods by weight.
- Shared or dedicated truck: shared is cheaper but waits for a full load; dedicated leaves on your day.
- Packing: wooden crates and double humidity wrapping add cost but protect valuable pieces.
- Dismantling and reassembly: if you want furniture taken apart in the UAE and put back together in Jeddah.
- Delivery point: a high floor with no lift, Al Balad’s lanes, or a smaller vehicle for the last leg.
- Documents: goods needing SABER or SFDA approval involve extra steps.
To save: send everything as one shipment rather than in batches, clear out what you won’t use in Jeddah before loading, book early in moving seasons, and take a shared truck if your date isn’t tight.

Tips and warnings before shipping to Jeddah
- Book early at the end of the school year and before Ramadan, when Jeddah-bound trucks fill up fast.
- If delivery is in or near Makkah, give us the address early: roads get crowded in the Hajj and Umrah seasons and truck movement is restricted, so we choose the date carefully.
- Write the inventory in detail — not just “miscellaneous items” — because a clear description shortens clearance.
- If you’ll live in a tower or compound, ask management about their moving rules as soon as you sign.
- Make sure the Jeddah recipient’s phone is on around delivery day; deliveries slip when we can’t reach them.
- On Jeddah’s rare rainy days some streets flood, and we’ll hold the unloading for a few hours or a day to protect your things.
From the Jeddah road: most complaints we hear about shipping to Jeddah have nothing to do with distance. They’re about a sofa wrapped in a hurry that showed marks a week later, or a tower whose lift nobody booked. Tight packing and an appointment arranged in advance solve most problems before they start.
Makkah, Taif and Madinah on the same trip
The road from Riyadh to Jeddah passes Taif and then comes close to Makkah, so Taif and Makkah shipments arrive in roughly the same time, 3–5 days. One shipment can also be split between addresses — part for a home in Jeddah, part for relatives in Taif or Makkah — and we plan the drop order so the truck doesn’t double back.
- Makkah: about 80 km from Jeddah, delivered on the same run.
- Taif: up in the highlands before the road descends to Makkah and Jeddah, delivered on the way.
- Madinah: roughly 400 km north of Jeddah, about 3–5 days.
- Yanbu and Rabigh: on the coast north of Jeddah, by prior arrangement.
Other Saudi cities
If your shipment is spread across regions, we have guides for each: the UAE to Saudi Arabia guide for every city and transit time, and the UAE to Riyadh guide if part of your load drops off on the way. We also deliver to Dammam and the Eastern Province, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, and to any country in the world by land, sea and air.
Frequently asked questions about shipping from the UAE to Jeddah
How long does road shipping from the UAE to Jeddah take?
About 3–5 days door to door, including clearance at Al Batha. A shared load may wait a few days for the truck to fill; a dedicated truck leaves on your date.
How far is Dubai from Jeddah by truck?
Roughly 2,000 km via Al Ghuwaifat, Al Batha, Al Ahsa, Riyadh and Taif. From Abu Dhabi and Al Ain it’s a little shorter, as they’re closer to the border.
Is road or sea better for shipping to Jeddah?
Road is better for household goods, cars, parcels and anything less than a container, since it’s faster door to door with less handling. Sea from Jebel Ali to Jeddah Islamic Port is worth comparing for full containers of heavy goods.
How much does it cost to move furniture from the UAE to Jeddah?
In a shared truck it starts from 90 AED per cubic metre. The final price depends on volume, the Jeddah district, packing and dismantling, so send photos or a list on WhatsApp and we’ll send you the price.
How do you protect furniture from Jeddah’s humidity?
We seal sofas and mattresses in film over moving blankets, put moisture absorbers in wardrobes and drawers, and never leave cartons on open ground at unloading. We also suggest opening the wraps in an air-conditioned room within a day or two of arrival.
Do you deliver to Al Balad and Corniche towers?
Yes. In Al Balad the big truck parks on the nearest wide street and we finish with a smaller vehicle or by hand. For towers we book the service lift and moving slot with building management before arrival.
Can you deliver to Makkah and Taif on the same trip?
Yes. Taif and Makkah are on the Jeddah road and take about 3–5 days. A shipment can be split between an address in Jeddah and another in Makkah or Taif.
How do I follow my shipment to Jeddah?
Our team messages you on WhatsApp at loading, after Al Batha, as the truck passes Riyadh and before it enters Jeddah, and calls the recipient before delivery. Messages to +971557643821 are answered around the clock.
