Before shipping to Madinah

  • Route: UAE → Al Ghuwaifat / Al Batha → Al Ahsa → Riyadh → Qassim or the Riyadh–Madinah highway → Madinah (about 1,900 km from Dubai).
  • Land transit: about 3–5 days door to door; a shared load may wait a few extra days until the truck fills.
  • Prices: furniture from 90 AED per cubic metre, small parcels from 45 AED, sedan from 2,000 AED, SUV from 2,750 AED, enclosed carrier from 4,100 AED.
  • Air: direct to Madinah airport or to Jeddah and then by road, usually 1–3 days; not suitable for furniture.
  • In the city: heavy trucks are restricted in central Madinah, more so in peak seasons, so delivery is scheduled and a smaller truck may do the last leg.
  • To book: photos and a contents list on WhatsApp +971557643821, and you get the price and date.

This guide is the main reference for anyone shipping from the UAE to Madinah. It covers what we ship, where we collect from, how the road runs, how long it takes, which documents each type of shipment needs, and what happens when the truck reaches Madinah’s districts. If you already know your emirate, each one has its own guide listed near the end of this page.

What does Al Basmah ship from the UAE to Madinah?

We ship everything that moves by road between the two countries: household furniture and personal effects, cars, commercial goods, small parcels, and urgent shipments by air. Most of the people who contact us are families relocating to Madinah, employees transferred there for work, or traders supplying shops in the city.

Home furniture

Bedrooms, majlis seating, kitchens and appliances, with dismantling, packing and reassembly on request, in a shared or dedicated truck.

Home libraries

Many households moving to Madinah carry large book collections; we pack books in small, strong cartons so the weight never crushes them.

Cars

On an open multi-car carrier, or an enclosed carrier for new and high-value cars.

Commercial cargo

Shop and warehouse stock and light equipment, with full commercial papers and clearance via the Fasah platform.

Farm supplies

Tools, irrigation fittings and light equipment for the palm farms around Madinah, with soil and plant restrictions checked first.

Parcels and urgent items

A carton or two by road, or a document or urgent spare part by air to Madinah airport.

If your shipment mixes all of this, say your home and your car together, mention it in your first message. The car travels on a separate carrier from the furniture truck, and we schedule both so they arrive close together.

Where do we collect in the UAE?

We collect from all seven emirates and from Al Ain, at a home, office, warehouse or free zone. Shipments are consolidated at our two branches: Dubai – Deira, Port Saeed Street, and Sharjah – Industrial Area 18. The most requested pickup areas include:

  • Dubai: Deira, Al Qusais, Al Barsha, Mirdif, Dubai Marina, Al Warqa, Jebel Ali Free Zone and the Al Rashidiya warehouses.
  • Sharjah: Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Al Taawun, the industrial areas and the Sharjah Airport Free Zone (SAIF Zone).
  • Abu Dhabi: Mussafah, Khalifa City, Al Shamkha, Al Reem Island and KIZAD.
  • Al Ain: Al Jimi, Al Muwaiji, Al Hili and the industrial area.
  • Ajman and Umm Al Quwain: Al Nuaimiya, Al Jurf, Ajman Free Zone and Umm Al Thuoob.
  • Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah: Al Nakheel, Al Dhait, the RAKEZ zones, and Fujairah city and its free zone.

Shipments from the northern emirates and Fujairah have the extra drive to Al Ghuwaifat, on the far western edge of Abu Dhabi, which can add half a day to a day. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are closest to the border.

The road route from the UAE to Madinah

Land freight is the main way to ship from the UAE to Madinah, because it carries furniture, cars and large cargo at a sensible cost, door to door. The truck leaves the emirate where we collected, heads west along the coastal road to Al Ghuwaifat, and crosses to Saudi Arabia’s Al Batha border post, where customs clearance is handled electronically through the Fasah platform.

  1. From the emirate to the Al Ghuwaifat border post on the UAE side.
  2. Crossing to Al Batha on the Saudi side for clearance and inspection.
  3. On to Al Ahsa (Hofuf) and then Riyadh; Dubai to Riyadh alone is about 1,060 km.
  4. From Riyadh north-west via Qassim or along the Riyadh–Madinah highway.
  5. Arrival in Madinah and delivery to your district at a scheduled time.

The whole trip from Dubai to Madinah is roughly 1,900 km. The last stretch crosses the Najd plateau and then nears the city, where black volcanic basalt fields (harrat) and date-palm farms line the road; drivers know they are close when they see them. Departure depends on the load: a dedicated truck leaves on the day you agree, a shared truck leaves once it is full.

The truck type follows the size of your shipment. These are the vehicles we run on the Madinah line:

  • Small closed dyna, about 3 tons: a small flat, two rooms or light cargo.
  • 5-ton and 7-ton dynas: a full apartment or a mid-size house.
  • 10-ton lorry: a villa or a large home with a library and several majlis sets.
  • Closed trailers of 12 to 13.6 m: commercial cargo and warehouse loads.
  • Enclosed car carriers and open multi-car carriers.

If your destination is another Saudi city rather than Madinah, see our UAE to Saudi Arabia shipping guide, which covers every city.

How long does shipping from the UAE to Madinah take?

A land shipment from the UAE to Madinah takes about 3 to 5 days from collection to delivery, including clearance at Al Batha. These are approximate times that depend on border traffic, complete documents, the truck type and peak seasons inside the city.

Destination Approx. land transit from the UAE Note
Madinah districts: Quba, Al Awali, Al Aziziyah, Al Iskan, Shuran 3 – 5 days Scheduled delivery due to truck-entry restrictions
Madinah districts: Al Khalidiyah, Al Uyun, Al Azhari, Bani Harithah, Sultanah, Al Rawabi, Al Jamiah, Al Hijrah, Al Aqool, Al Anabis 3 – 5 days A smaller truck may do the final leg
Yanbu (industrial city and port) 4 – 6 days About 230 km beyond Madinah
Al Ula 4 – 6 days More than 300 km north of Madinah
Jeddah 4 – 6 days 400+ km from Madinah
Makkah 4 – 6 days 400+ km from Madinah

A shared load can wait a few days before leaving until the truck fills, and that wait is not counted in the table. If you have a fixed handover date for a house or a start date at work, choose a dedicated truck or give us the date so we put you on the nearest departure. For Jeddah or Makkah, see our UAE to Jeddah guide and UAE to Makkah guide.

Air freight from the UAE to Madinah

Air freight from the UAE to Madinah suits urgent, light shipments only: documents, spare parts, small devices, trade samples. Shipments fly from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airports to Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, or to King Abdulaziz airport in Jeddah and then continue by road, usually arriving in 1 to 3 days including clearance.

  • How it is charged: by actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = L × W × H in cm ÷ 6000. A 60×40×40 cm carton counts as 16 kg even if it weighs 7 kg.
  • Not suitable for air: furniture and bulky items, which cost far more by air than by road.
  • Restricted by air: lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes; they need special packing and approval, or go by road.
  • Price: send the details on WhatsApp and you get the price, with weight, dimensions and contents.

Many customers split the move: furniture and car by road, and important papers, a work laptop and first-week essentials by air, so what they need right away arrives first and the rest follows a few days later.

Sea freight is not practical for Madinah, an inland city with no port. Only large commercial containers may go by sea to Jeddah Islamic Port or Yanbu port and continue by road; that option is for traders shipping full containers, not for household moves.

Packing furniture for the trip to Madinah

Good packing is what protects your furniture over roughly 1,900 km in summer heat. Madinah summers are very hot and the inside of a truck box gets hotter still, so we pack with heat in mind, not the way you would pack for a move across town.

  • Wood and upholstery: moving blankets, then plastic wrap, leaving space for air so moisture does not build up under the cover and damage fabric and wood.
  • Glass, mirrors and screens: heavy-duty cardboard and corner guards, carried upright, never flat.
  • Books: small cartons, each light enough for one person to lift, marked with the shelf number so you can rebuild the library as it was.
  • Appliances: the fridge emptied and dried a day before, and the washing-machine drum locked with transit bolts.
  • Candles, perfumes and anything that can melt or leak: not in ordinary cartons; better to carry them yourself.
  • Beds and large wardrobes: dismantled, parts numbered, and screws bagged and taped to the piece they belong to.

Number every carton, write the room name on it in Arabic and English, and photograph the list. The same list is used for customs, and it lets the delivery crew in Madinah put each carton in the right room the first time.

Documents for shipping from the UAE to Madinah

Documents depend on the type of shipment: used personal effects, commercial goods, or a car. Clearance is electronic through the Fasah platform at Al Batha, and any missing paper means the truck waits at the border, so we check everything with you before loading.

Used household goods and personal effects

  • Copy of the owner’s passport.
  • Copy of the owner’s Saudi ID, iqama or residence visa.
  • A detailed contents list in Arabic or English.

Used furniture for personal use normally clears without trouble. New items in commercial quantities, such as twenty units of the same appliance or cartons of new clothes in bulk, are treated as goods and are dutiable.

Commercial goods

  • Commercial invoice and packing list.
  • Certificate of origin; goods of UAE (GCC) origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty.
  • A SABER certificate for many consumer products.
  • SFDA requirements for food, including dates, and for cosmetics and medicines.
  • Commercial registration for the Saudi consignee.

Saudi VAT of 15% applies to imports even when goods are exempt from customs duty, so build it into your cost from the start.

Dates and food cargo

Madinah is known for its dates and palm farms, and many traders there work with UAE suppliers for packaging and food products. Any food shipment, whether dates, food-contact packaging or processed food, has to meet the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) requirements: a clear label, an expiry date and product registration where needed. A food shipment with incomplete data can be held at the border, and heat is hard on food while it waits, so we ask for the papers before loading, not after.

Cars

  • An imported used passenger car must not be more than 5 years old from its model year, counted back and excluding the current year.
  • Vehicle registration (mulkiya).
  • UAE export certificate and plate cancellation from the RTA in Dubai or the relevant authority in your emirate.
  • Owner’s passport or ID.
  • The car empty of personal belongings.

Special cases, such as a car older than the limit, a modified car or a company-owned car, are checked with our team before you cancel the plates, so you do not cancel them and then find the car cannot enter.

Prohibited and restricted items

Some items are banned outright from Saudi Arabia and others need a permit in advance. One banned item in a shared truck can delay everyone’s shipment, which is why we ask about contents in detail.

  • Prohibited: narcotics, alcohol, pork products, weapons and ammunition without permits, counterfeit goods and gambling tools.
  • Need a prior permit: drones and some medicines.
  • Restricted: soil and plants, which matters if you are moving farm supplies or house plants.

Warning: If you carry personal medicine for a chronic condition, keep the prescription with it and do not pack it in the furniture cartons without telling us. If you have a drone or special wireless equipment, tell us before loading so we can arrange a permit or leave it out.

Shipping prices from the UAE to Madinah

Shipping from the UAE to Madinah starts from 90 AED per cubic metre for furniture in a shared truck, from 45 AED for small parcels by road, and from 2,000 AED for a sedan on an open carrier. These are starting prices; the final price depends on volume, weight, city, packing and documents.

Shipment type Starts from
Furniture and household goods, shared truck Starts from 90 AED per cubic metre
Small parcels by land Start from 45 AED
Sedan on an open carrier Starts from 2,000 AED
SUV on an open carrier Starts from 2,750 AED
Car on an enclosed carrier Starts from 4,100 AED
Dedicated full truck Send the details on WhatsApp and get your price
Air freight to Madinah or Jeddah Send the details on WhatsApp and get your price
Commercial containers via Jeddah or Yanbu Send the details on WhatsApp and get your price

As a rough guide to volume: a two-bedroom flat usually takes 15 to 25 cubic metres depending on how much furniture it holds, and a villa can exceed 50 cubic metres. At those sizes a dedicated truck is sometimes cheaper than a shared one, and we work that out for you from your photos.

What decides the cost of shipping to Madinah?

  • Volume and weight: furniture by the cubic metre; parcels and air by actual or volumetric weight.
  • Truck type: shared is cheaper but waits to fill; dedicated costs more and leaves on your date.
  • Emirate and pickup point: Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah are farther from the border than Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
  • Delivery address: central Madinah differs from outer districts, and Yanbu and Al Ula add distance.
  • Packing, dismantling and assembly: full service or your own packing.
  • Floors and lifts: a fourth-floor flat with no lift needs more crew and time.
  • Documents and cargo type: commercial goods, SABER certificates and SFDA requirements add clearance steps.
  • Insurance: ask the team about optional insurance for high-value shipments.

Delivery inside Madinah: districts, truck entry and peak seasons

Delivering inside Madinah takes more coordination than most Saudi cities. Heavy trucks are restricted in central Madinah, and the restrictions tighten in peak seasons such as Ramadan and the Hajj and Umrah peak, when the roads fill up. We therefore set the delivery time in advance according to your district and the permitted hours, and if the large truck cannot reach your door, the load moves to a smaller truck for the final leg.

Southern districts

Quba, Al Awali, Al Aziziyah, Al Iskan, Shuran: wide residential areas with many family moves.

Western and northern districts

Al Khalidiyah, Al Uyun, Al Azhari, Sultanah, Al Rawabi, Al Jamiah: apartment buildings where the lift and parking need arranging.

Outer districts

Bani Harithah, Al Hijrah, Al Aqool, Al Anabis: easier truck access, with villas, farms and warehouses.

If your shipment lands in a peak season, we suggest one of two things: ship a few days before the season, or accept delivery during hours when truck access is easier. If you live in a building, book the lift with the building guard and confirm where the truck can park the day before delivery.

Shipping to Yanbu and Al Ula

Yanbu is an industrial city and port on the Red Sea, about 230 km beyond Madinah by road, and many staff of its plants and companies ship their furniture and cars there. Al Ula lies more than 300 km north of Madinah, reached by a dedicated truck or by forwarding the load from Madinah. Delivery in both is usually easier than in central Madinah because truck restrictions are lighter.

  3. Prepare the documents: passport and ID or iqama copies with the contents list, or the commercial papers, or the car documents.

  7. Delivery and assembly: at an agreed time in your district, with assembly if you asked for it.

Tips before shipping to Madinah

  • Do not cancel your car plates until we confirm the car’s age and condition are accepted.
  • Keep original documents, valuables, gold and cash with you, not in the cartons.
  • If your Madinah housing handover date is fixed, book the shipment at least a week before it.
  • Ask the landlord in Madinah about building access hours and the lift before the truck arrives.
  • If you are shipping dates or food for sale, prepare the SFDA requirements before loading.
  • Get rid of old furniture you will not use; every cubic metre counts in the price.
  • In summer, leave out anything heat-sensitive such as candles, batteries and perfume.

Warning: Do not hide commercial goods inside a personal-effects shipment as if they were personal items. Border inspection finds them, and the whole shipment is held, not just the goods.
