The Eastern Province is the part of Saudi Arabia closest to the UAE by road, so shipping from the UAE to Dammam is the quickest of all Saudi destinations. The truck leaves the emirate where we collected your goods, exits at the Al Ghuwaifat border, enters the Kingdom at Al Batha, then heads north through Al Ahsa (Hofuf) to Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran. Door to door, it takes roughly 2–3 days, and customs clearance at Al Batha is included in that time. The shipment never goes through Riyadh: the road to the coast branches off at Al Ahsa before it.

At Al Basmah International Shipping we collect from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Al Ain: the furniture of an apartment or villa, a car, stock for a shop in Dammam, pallets of spare parts for a plant in Jubail, or small parcels for family. We deliver across Dammam, in Khobar and Dhahran, inside gated compounds that only open with a permit, to the industrial cities of Dammam and Jubail, and to Qatif, Ras Tanura, Al Ahsa, Abqaiq and Hafr Al Batin. Traders importing full containers also have a short sea option to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. This guide covers what is specific to the Eastern Province: the shortest route, road versus sea, deliveries to compounds and industrial sites, and packing that copes with coastal humidity.
The shortest route in a few lines
- Route: UAE → Al Ghuwaifat → Al Batha → Al Ahsa (Hofuf) → Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran, without passing through Riyadh.
- Time: about 2–3 days door to door; Jubail, Qatif and Al Ahsa take about the same.
- Sea: Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, about 2–3 days sailing plus port handling and clearance.
- Air: urgent, light shipments to King Fahd International Airport in 1–3 days including clearance.
- What is different here: compounds with gate permits, industrial sites with receiving slots, and a humid coast that calls for sealed packing.
- Prices: furniture in a shared truck starts from 90 AED per cubic metre; a sedan on an open carrier starts from 2,000 AED.
- To book: send the details on WhatsApp +971557643821 and we will send you the price.
Road or sea to Dammam?
Road, in most cases. Dammam is the one Saudi city where sea comes close to road on timing, because the crossing from Jebel Ali to King Abdulaziz Port is a short run up the Gulf. Even so, the truck is simpler: it collects from your door and delivers to the recipient’s door with one loading and one unloading. A container has to be trucked to a UAE port, sailed, handled and cleared in Dammam, then hauled to the warehouse. Sea makes sense when the goods are very heavy or move in regular full containers, and the importer already has a broker and a warehouse used to receiving boxes from the port.
This is how we compare the two when a customer shipping to Dammam asks:
| Point of comparison | Road freight | Sea freight (Jebel Ali or Khalifa → King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam) |
|---|---|---|
| Approximate time | 2–3 days door to door, clearance included | 2–3 days sailing, then container handling, clearance and haulage from the port |
| Handling | Loaded in the UAE, unloaded in Dammam | Loaded, lifted onto the ship, discharged at the port, then unloaded at the warehouse |
| Where it clears | Al Batha border via the Fasah platform | King Abdulaziz Port via the Fasah platform |
| Smallest load | One parcel or one cubic metre in a shared truck | A full container, or a share of a consolidated one |
| Best for | Household furniture, cars, parcels, palletised goods, full truckloads | Heavy goods or large regular volumes for an importer with a warehouse near the port |
| Exposure to humidity | Low; the load never sits in an open yard | Higher, from days at sea and waiting in the container yard |
| Departure date | Dedicated truck on your day; shared truck once full | Tied to the sailing schedule and space on the vessel |
| How it is priced | Per cubic metre, per pallet, per truck or per car type | Per container, plus fees at both ports, clearance and onward haulage |
The road route from the UAE to Dammam, stage by stage
The Eastern Province is the shortest branch of the road into the Kingdom. Trucks for Riyadh and Jeddah carry on west from Al Ahsa; the Dammam truck turns north for the coast and arrives well before them. That is why Eastern Province transit starts at two days, the shortest of any Saudi region.
- Collection in the UAE: the team arrives at your address, counts the items and writes the inventory, then dismantles, wraps and numbers boxes by room, or by order number if it is stock.
- To Al Ghuwaifat: the truck heads west through Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi to the border near Al Sila. From the northern emirates that is about 4–6 hours; from Abu Dhabi, the closest major city to the border, it is less.
- Al Batha: the shipment enters the Kingdom, its data is filed electronically on Fasah, and it may be selected for inspection before release.
- To Al Ahsa: from Al Batha to Hofuf and Al Mubarraz, where anything addressed to Al Ahsa itself is dropped off.
- North to the coast: from Al Ahsa the truck passes near Abqaiq and reaches Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran, which form one continuous metro area.
- Delivery: we call the recipient before arrival and confirm the gate permit if the address is in a compound, or the receiving slot if it is an industrial site.
At each of these stages our team sends you an update on WhatsApp: at loading, at the Al Batha crossing and as the truck approaches Dammam.
How long does shipping from the UAE to Dammam take?
About 2–3 days by road, counted from loading day in the UAE to delivery day in the Eastern Province, with clearance at Al Batha included. These times are approximate; the border gets busy in peak seasons and some shipments are picked for inspection:
| City or delivery point | Method | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Dammam (residential and commercial districts) | Road, door to door | 2–3 days |
| Khobar and Dhahran | Road, door to door | 2–3 days |
| Residential compounds in Dhahran and Khobar | Road, with a gate permit | 2–3 days + permit time if not arranged in advance |
| Jubail and Jubail Industrial City | Road, pallets or full truckload | 2–3 days depending on the site’s receiving slot |
| Qatif and Ras Tanura | Road | 2–3 days |
| Al Ahsa (Hofuf, Al Mubarraz) and Abqaiq | Road, on the way to Dammam | 2–3 days |
| Hafr Al Batin | Road | about 3–4 days |
| King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam | Sea from Jebel Ali or Khalifa | 2–3 days sailing + handling and clearance |
| King Fahd International Airport | Air | 1–3 days including clearance |
A shared load may wait a few days until the Eastern Province truck is full; a dedicated truck leaves on the day you choose. What stretches transit most is not the road but the paperwork: a load that reaches Al Batha with an incomplete inventory or a mismatched invoice can sit there for days, which is why we check every document with you before loading.
What we ship from the UAE to Dammam
The Eastern Province runs on oil, gas, industry and ports, and the shipments reflect that: energy and industrial staff relocating with their families, companies sending equipment and spare parts to plants in Jubail and Dammam, shops in Dammam and Khobar restocking from the markets of Dubai and Sharjah, families moving their cars, and relatives sending parcels back and forth.
Household furniture to Dammam and Khobar
Most people moving to the Eastern Province learn their new address only shortly before the move, and many start out in a Corniche apartment or an employer’s compound. So in the first call we ask what kind of home it is: an apartment means booking the lift, a compound means a gate permit, and a villa means knowing the street width and where the truck can park.
In the UAE we take apart beds, wardrobes and dining tables, bag each item’s screws with its name on the bag, and wrap sofas in moving blankets and then a sealed cover. Boxes are marked with the room and a number, so in Dammam everything goes where it belongs without opening a single box. If assembly is part of the deal we put beds and wardrobes back together in the new home and take the empty cartons away.

Car shipping from the UAE to Dammam
Cars travel on an open carrier with other vehicles, the cheaper choice, or on an enclosed carrier if the car is new, luxury or classic. The Eastern Province run is short, but road dust and sun reach the paintwork over any distance, which is why many owners of newer cars choose the enclosed carrier even for a two-day trip. We strap the wheels, photograph the car from every side before loading, and compare the photos with the recipient on delivery in Dammam, in Khobar or outside the villa in a compound.

Settle the age rule first: used passenger cars cannot be imported into the Kingdom if they are more than five years old from the model year, not counting the current year. The car is handed over empty of personal belongings. If your car is modified, registered to someone else or under finance, check its case with our team before shipping.
Commercial goods for shops in Dammam and Khobar
We carry clothing and footwear, registered perfumes and cosmetics, household goods and electricals, finishing materials, restaurant and café supplies, and stock for shops and showrooms in Dammam and Khobar. Small quantities go by the pallet in a shared truck; larger ones in a dedicated truck or a closed 12–13.6 m trailer. Each pallet is shrink-wrapped and labelled to match its line on the packing list, so the Al Batha inspection moves quickly and the count at the receiving end is easy.
Industrial equipment and spare parts
Valves and pumps, spare parts for heavy machinery, generators, electrical panels and workshop tools are routine loads for the industrial cities of Dammam and Jubail. Heavy items are fixed to timber skids or boxed, and we need the weight and dimensions of each piece and whether the delivery site has a forklift or an overhead crane. If the part is urgent because a line is down, air or a dedicated truck may be the answer; see below.
Parcels and small items
Boxes of clothes and books, a suitcase for a student in Dhahran, or gifts for family in Qatif or Al Ahsa go into a shared road load; small road parcels start from 45 AED. If you have several parcels for the same address, send them as one shipment: the fewer separate shipments, the lower the cost.
Shared load, pallets or a full truck?
The choice depends on your volume and your date. A shared load is priced per cubic metre and waits until the truck is full; pallets suit traders who send medium quantities regularly; a full truck leaves on your day and carries only your goods. These are the vehicles we choose from:
Small closed dyna
About 3 tons, for a small apartment or a limited shop order.
5-ton and 7-ton dyna
For a large apartment or mid-size villa, or mixed pallets.
10-ton lorry
For a full villa or a medium commercial load.
Closed trailer, 12–13.6 m
For full loads, warehouse stock and industrial equipment.
Enclosed car carrier
For new, luxury and classic cars.
Open multi-car carrier
The most economical way to ship one car or several.
Where we collect in the UAE: Dammam guides by emirate
We have two branches, in Dubai (Deira, Port Saeed Street) and Sharjah (Industrial Area 18), and our team reaches any address in the country. Each emirate has its own guide to shipping to Dammam, with collection areas and the distance to the border:
- Shipping from Dubai to Dammam: from Deira, Al Barsha, Dubai Marina and the Jebel Ali Free Zone.
- Shipping from Abu Dhabi to Dammam: from Khalifa City, Al Reem Island and Musaffah, closest to Al Ghuwaifat.
- Shipping from Sharjah to Dammam: from Al Nahda, Al Majaz and the industrial areas, home of our Industrial Area 18 branch.
- Shipping from Ajman to Dammam: from Al Nuaimiya, Al Jurf and the free zone.
- Shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Dammam: from the city and its industrial area.
- Shipping from Ras Al Khaimah to Dammam: from the city and its industrial zones, the farthest of the northern emirates from the border.
- Shipping from Fujairah to Dammam: from the east coast, over the mountains and then west.
- Shipping from Al Ain to Dammam: from Al Ain’s districts and industrial areas.
Delivery in Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran
Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran run into each other and people cross between them every day, so we treat them as one delivery zone. The type of building, though, changes a lot from one district to the next, and that decides which vehicle reaches the door and when we unload:
| City | Districts we often deliver to | What to arrange before delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Dammam | Al Faisaliyah, Al Shati, Al Mazruiyah, Al Noor, Al Badiyah, Al Hamra, Al Mubarakiyah, Al Fursan | Apartment blocks and villas; where the truck parks, and lift booking in buildings |
| Khobar | Al Olaya, Al Aqrabiyah, Al Rakah, Al Hizam Al Akhdar, the Corniche | Corniche towers needing the service lift booked; busy commercial streets by day |
| Dhahran | Dhahran Al Janubiyah and residential compounds | A gate permit in advance with the driver’s name and truck plate |
Residential compounds in Dhahran and Khobar
Many people who move to the Eastern Province for work live in gated compounds in Dhahran and Khobar. These compounds let no truck in without a permit; some set moving hours and ask for the driver’s and crew’s details and the truck plate a day or more ahead. So when you book, we ask for the compound name, villa number and the management or security office number, and we send the details before the truck leaves the UAE. If the big truck cannot pass the gate or fit the internal roads, we transfer the goods to a smaller dyna at the gate.
Compound units are sometimes partly furnished, so ask management what is already in the unit before we pack: you may not need to ship the fridge or the second bedroom at all.
Corniche towers and apartments
Towers on the Khobar and Dammam Corniche have a furniture lift and moving times set by the building manager. We measure long pieces such as large sofas and wardrobe panels against the lift before loading; if they will not fit, we find out in the UAE and dismantle them there, not at the tower door.
Deliveries to Jubail Industrial City and Dammam’s industrial cities
A large share of what we carry to the Eastern Province goes not to homes but to warehouses, plants and contractors in Jubail Industrial City and in Dammam’s First and Second Industrial Cities. These sites have their own routine: many receive only in set hours, want the purchase order or order reference on the shipping documents, and some require the driver and truck to be registered at the gate before entry.

So the truck does not wait hours at the gate, we ask you before loading for:
- The site name and exact location, and the receiving contact’s name and number.
- Receiving hours at the warehouse or plant, and whether a slot must be booked.
- The purchase order or order reference, to go on the packing list and labels.
- Whether there is a loading dock or forklift, or we need a truck with a crane.
- The weight and dimensions of each heavy piece, and any designated lifting points.
We load pallets in drop order, so if the shipment is split between a site in Jubail and one in Dammam, what comes off last goes on first.
Qatif, Ras Tanura, Al Ahsa and Hafr Al Batin
The Eastern Province reaches far beyond Dammam and its neighbours, and we deliver to its other cities on the same trip or by separate arrangement:
- Al Ahsa (Hofuf and Al Mubarraz): on the road from Al Batha before Dammam, so it takes the same time; one shipment is often split between a home in Al Ahsa and another in Dammam.
- Abqaiq: between Al Ahsa and Dammam, delivered on the way.
- Qatif: just north of Dammam on the coast, very close to the metro area.
- Ras Tanura: on the coast past Qatif, grouped with northbound deliveries.
- Jubail: the city and the industrial city north of Dammam, about 2–3 days.
- Hafr Al Batin: in the far north-west of the province; the extra distance adds about a day.
Sea freight to King Abdulaziz Port, Dammam
King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is the Kingdom’s main commercial port on the Arabian Gulf, and the crossing from Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port is short: about 2–3 days sailing. On arrival the container is handled at the port, cleared electronically on Fasah, then hauled by truck to the importer’s warehouse in Dammam, Jubail or elsewhere.

There are two ways to go by sea: a full container, yours alone, sealed at your UAE warehouse and opened at your Dammam warehouse; or a consolidated container, where your goods share the box with others and are priced by volume. The sea shipping document is the bill of lading, added to the invoice, packing list and certificate of origin.
When does sea win? When the goods are heavy for their size, such as ceramics, building materials and steel, or when a trader imports full containers every month and has a broker who knows the port. For household furniture we rarely recommend sea to Dammam: road arrives in about the same time, door to door, with no days in a humid container yard. Send the type of goods, the weight and the container size, and we will send the sea price alongside the road price.
Air freight from the UAE to Dammam
Air is for cases where a day costs more than the price difference: a spare part for a machine stopped on an industrial site, original documents for a transaction, samples for a client, or a small device a new employee needs straight away. The shipment flies from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airport to King Fahd International Airport, which lies far to the north-west of Dammam, and usually takes 1–3 days including clearance. From the airport we can deliver to your address in Dammam, Khobar or Jubail.

- Chargeable weight: the price uses the actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, so a large light box can cost more than you expect.
- Document: an air waybill, plus the invoice and packing list for commercial shipments.
- Restrictions: lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted on aircraft, and some are refused.
- Not for air: furniture and large appliances; road to Dammam takes two or three days and costs far less.
- Price: depends on weight, dimensions and the type of goods; send the details on WhatsApp and we will send you the price.
Packing for the humidity and dust of the Gulf coast
Dammam, Khobar, Qatif and Jubail sit on the Gulf coast; summers are hot and humid, and on some days the wind carries a lot of dust. Humidity does not show on delivery day. It shows a week later, when you open a wardrobe and find marks on the wood, or a box of clothes smells damp. So we pack Eastern Province loads with that in mind:
- Sofas and mattresses: a moving blanket against rubbing, then a plastic cover sealed at the ends so neither damp air nor dust gets in.
- Pressed wood: the material most affected by humidity; we wrap panels, keep them off the truck floor and put moisture absorbers in drawers.
- Electronics: in original cartons or padded boxes with silica gel, and not switched on straight after coming in from the heat to an air-conditioned room.
- Metal items and spare parts: cleaned and dried before wrapping; industrial parts stay in factory packing where it exists.
- Fridge and washing machine: emptied and dried a day before loading, since leftover water is the first thing to cause mould.
- Clothes and linens: in boxes taped on every side, never in open bags.
- At unloading: boxes do not stand in the sun or on open ground; they go straight into the home or warehouse.
After arrival, we suggest opening the covers on sofas and mattresses in an air-conditioned room within a day or two, so any moisture that formed on the road can escape.
Documents for shipping from the UAE to Dammam
Saudi customs clearance is electronic, on the Fasah platform of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority: at Al Batha for road, at King Abdulaziz Port for sea, or at King Fahd Airport for air. You do not need to attend in person, but your papers must be complete before loading:
| Type of shipment | Documents required |
|---|---|
| Used furniture and personal effects | Copy of the owner’s passport with Saudi ID, iqama or residence visa, a detailed contents list in Arabic or English, and the recipient’s name and number in the Eastern Province |
| Car | Registration, export certificate and plate cancellation from the RTA in Dubai or the relevant authority in your emirate, and the owner’s passport and ID |
| Commercial goods | Commercial invoice (certified when required), packing list, certificate of origin, SABER certificate for covered products, SFDA requirements for food, cosmetics and medicines, and a Saudi commercial registration for the importer |
| Sea or air shipment | Bill of lading or air waybill, in addition to the documents for the goods themselves |
GCC exemption and VAT
Goods of UAE origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty, but Saudi VAT at 15% still applies on import. Goods made outside the GCC and re-exported from the UAE do not get the same exemption, so check the country of origin on the invoice. Used belongings of someone moving to live in the Eastern Province are treated as personal effects once the paperwork is complete; new items in commercial quantities are dutiable.
Prohibited and restricted items
We do not load anything Saudi law bans, and we ask about anything that needs a permit before packing:
- Narcotics and psychotropic substances of any kind.
- Alcohol and pork products.
- Weapons and ammunition without permits.
- Counterfeit goods and gambling equipment.
- Drones and some medicines, which need prior permits.
Warning: Do not put anything among the furniture or inside the car that is not on the contents list. One undeclared item stops the whole truck at Al Batha, and everyone sharing the load is delayed with it.

For an accurate price, send photos or a list of the items, the emirate and area for collection, the delivery address in the Eastern Province, and the type of building: apartment, villa, compound or industrial site. You can also use our quote request page.
What raises or lowers the cost?
- Volume and weight: furniture is usually priced per cubic metre, heavy equipment by weight.
- Type of truck: shared is cheaper but waits to fill; dedicated leaves on your day.
- Packing: wooden crates and double humidity-proof wrapping add cost and protect valuable pieces.
- Dismantling and assembly: if you want it done in the UAE and in Dammam.
- Delivery point: a compound the big truck cannot enter, a high floor without a lift, or an industrial site that needs a crane.
- City: Dammam, Khobar and Dhahran are on the main line; Hafr Al Batin and Ras Tanura add distance.
- Documents: goods needing SABER or SFDA requirements involve more steps.
To save: combine everything into one shipment, get rid of what you will not use in the new home before loading, check what a furnished compound unit already has, accept a shared truck if your date can stretch a few days, and book early in moving season.

Tips before shipping to Dammam
- Ask your employer or compound management about their moving rules as soon as you know the address; a gate permit can take days.
- Book early at the end of the school year, the busiest time for staff relocating with families.
- Do not write “miscellaneous items” on the contents list; a clear description shortens clearance.
- For industrial deliveries, make sure the purchase order number is on every document; the gate asks for it before opening.
- If your car is close to the five-year limit, work out its age before booking the carrier.
- Keep the recipient’s phone on during arrival day; no truck enters a compound or site until someone confirms receipt.
From experience on the Eastern Province run: the trip itself is short, and most of the delays we see happen in the last hundred metres, at a compound gate the permit never reached or a warehouse where no receiving slot was booked. Sort out those two before loading day and your shipment will arrive in the time we gave you.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from the UAE to Dammam
How long does shipping from the UAE to Dammam take by road?
About 2–3 days door to door, with clearance at Al Batha included. A shared load may wait a few days to fill; a dedicated truck leaves on your date.
Does the road to Dammam go through Riyadh?
No. From Al Batha the truck heads to Al Ahsa and then north to Dammam; the Riyadh road branches west at Al Ahsa. That is why the Eastern Province is the part of the Kingdom closest to the UAE.
Which is better to Dammam: road or sea?
Road for household furniture, cars, parcels and anything less than a container, because it is door to door with less handling. Sea to King Abdulaziz Port is worth comparing for full containers of heavy goods.
How much does it cost to move furniture from the UAE to Dammam?
In a shared truck it starts from 90 AED per cubic metre. The final price depends on volume, packing, dismantling and assembly, and the type of building in Dammam, so send photos or a list on WhatsApp and we will send you the price.
Do you deliver to residential compounds in Dhahran and Khobar?
Yes. We send the driver and truck details to compound management to get the gate permit before the appointment, and if the big truck cannot enter we transfer the goods to a smaller vehicle at the gate.
Do you deliver to Jubail Industrial City and Dammam’s industrial cities?
Yes, by pallet or full truckload. We need the site name, the receiving contact, receiving hours and the purchase order number, and we arrange the slot with the site before the truck arrives.
Do I pay customs on my used furniture?
Used personal belongings of someone moving to live in the Kingdom are treated as personal effects once the papers are complete: passport, ID or iqama, and a contents list. New items in commercial quantities are dutiable.
How do I know where my shipment to Dammam is?
Our team sends you a WhatsApp update at loading, at the Al Batha crossing and as the truck nears Dammam, and calls the recipient before delivery. You can message us any time on +971557643821.
