If you are looking for a shipping company from Umm Al Quwain to Qatar for the contents of a small flat, a single room or a few cartons, the most economical choice is usually a shared truck, where you pay only for the space your items take: prices start from 90 AED per cubic metre. Al Basmah International Shipping collects from your home in Umm Al Quwain, measures your items and works out the volume with you before loading. The truck then heads to the Al Ghuwaifat border, transits Saudi Arabia to Abu Samra, and reaches your Doha flat in about two to four days including clearance, sometimes with a few extra days while the truck fills. We also ship cars after inspecting and photographing them from every side, and send urgent parcels by air.

By the cubic metre
- In a shared truck you pay only for your volume, from 90 AED per cubic metre.
- An average one-bedroom flat usually comes to 8–9 cubic metres once the furniture is dismantled; the full calculation is below.
- Your car is inspected and photographed at collection and the photos are sent to you on WhatsApp; Qatar generally does not accept used light vehicles more than five years from their manufacture date.
- A shared load may wait a few days to fill; if you are in a hurry, choose a small dedicated dyna.
- Air parcels are charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher.
Prices start from
90 AED per cubic metre for furniture; 45 AED for a small parcel by road.
Approximate transit
2–4 days to Doha once the truck leaves; 3–4 days to Al Khor and Mesaieed.

How the price of your flat is worked out by the cubic metre
A shared truck carries several customers’ items to Qatar on one trip, and the price is split by the space each shipment occupies. A cubic metre is a cube one metre long, wide and high, and the volume of any item = length × width × height in metres. A 60 × 40 × 40 cm carton, for example, is 0.6 × 0.4 × 0.4 = 0.096 cubic metres, roughly a tenth of a cubic metre.
You do not need to measure everything yourself. Send us photos of your items or a video of the flat, we estimate the volume, and we measure it properly on loading day. Knowing the method, though, helps you decide what to take and what to sell before you go.
Worked example: a one-bedroom flat in Umm Al Quwain
| Item | Approximate volume (m³) |
|---|---|
| Double bed, dismantled, with mattress | 1.5 |
| Two- or three-door wardrobe, dismantled | 1.2 |
| Three-seater sofa | 1.6 |
| Armchair or two chairs | 0.8 |
| Small dining table with 4 chairs | 1.0 |
| Medium fridge | 0.8 |
| Washing machine | 0.5 |
| TV in its box | 0.2 |
| 20 medium cartons (about 0.06 m³ each) | 1.2 |
| Approximate total | 8.8 m³ |
At that volume: 8.8 × 90 = about 792 AED as a starting point for transport in the shared truck. The final price depends on the actual volume measured, the destination city in Qatar, the delivery floor, any extra packing and the documents. A small studio usually comes down to 4 or 5 cubic metres, and a two-bedroom flat can reach 12 to 14.
How to reduce the volume
- Dismantle beds, wardrobes and tables instead of shipping them assembled; an assembled wardrobe can take twice its dismantled volume.
- Fill cartons to the top; a half-empty carton counts as a full one and gets crushed on the road.
- Put light items inside the empty, dried washing machine or fridge.
- Sell cheap bulky items such as old mattresses and plastic tables; shipping them can cost more than buying replacements in Doha.
When to choose a dedicated dyna over a shared truck
When the date matters and you cannot wait for the load to fill, or when your volume gets close to a full small closed dyna (about 3 tons), so the price difference becomes small in exchange for the truck leaving on the day you choose. Send the details on WhatsApp and you will receive prices for both options to compare.

- Contents of small flats, studios and single rooms in a shared truck.
- Furniture from traditional houses and villas in a dedicated dyna or lorry.
- Sedans, 4x4s and crossovers on open or enclosed carriers.
- Single parcels and cartons by road, and urgent parcels by air.
- Commercial goods from the emirate’s industrial and free zones.
Pickup areas in Umm Al Quwain
We collect from any neighbourhood in Umm Al Quwain and from its industrial and free zones. The areas we load from most include:
- Residential areas: Al Salamah, Al Raudah, Al Ramlah, Al Maidan, Al Humrah, Al Haditha, Al Khor, and the Old Town (Al Ras) near the Corniche.
- Inland: Falaj Al Mualla and the surrounding area.
- Industrial areas: Umm Al Thuoob Industrial Area and the Emirates Modern Industrial Area.
- Free zone: Ahmed Bin Rashid Port and the Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone.
For shared shipments, your items may be taken from Umm Al Quwain to our Sharjah branch in Industrial Area 18 to be consolidated with other shipments before the truck leaves for Qatar; they stay there labelled in your name until loading. For free-zone companies we ask for the free zone’s release letter before collection day.
The route from Umm Al Quwain to Qatar
The UAE and Qatar share no land border, so the truck takes this route:
- From Umm Al Quwain south through Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi to the Al Ghuwaifat border.
- UAE exit and entry at the Saudi Al Batha border post.
- Customs transit through Saudi Arabia: the load is sealed and declared in transit, not cleared into Saudi Arabia, and follows the coast road to Salwa.
- Entry into Qatar at Abu Samra and clearance there, then delivery to Doha and the other cities.
Because a shared load carries several customers’ items under one seal, one customer’s missing paper can hold the whole truck at the border. That is why we ask for your documents and contents list in full before loading, not after. We do not promise fixed times at the border posts, because waiting times change with traffic. The same stretch of road to the Saudi coast is covered in our guide to shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Saudi Arabia.
Approximate transit times to Qatari cities
| Destination | Approximate road transit, door to door | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Doha | 2–4 days | Al Sadd, Al Mansoura, Al Hilal, Old Airport and more |
| Lusail | 2–4 days | Service lift booked in towers |
| Al Rayyan | 2–4 days | Muaither and nearby areas |
| Al Wakrah | 2–4 days | South of Doha |
| Al Khor | 3–4 days | North Qatar |
| Mesaieed | 3–4 days | Cargo and the industrial area |
Transit is counted from when the truck leaves; a shared load may wait a few days before that to fill, while a dedicated truck leaves on your date.

Car shipping from Umm Al Quwain to Qatar, after inspection and photos
Before your car goes onto the carrier we inspect it with you and photograph it, and those photos are the reference at delivery in Doha. We send them to you on WhatsApp on collection day, and they cover:
- Front and rear.
- Both full sides.
- Close-ups of the four corners, where small scratches usually show.
- Roof and windscreen.
- Wheels and tyres.
- The dashboard, showing the odometer reading and fuel level.
- The interior, to confirm it is empty.
- Every existing scratch or dent, with a close-up of each.
We ask for fuel at around a quarter of a tank, and the car must be handed over completely empty of personal belongings; cartons inside the car are not allowed. The car is secured on the carrier with wheel straps.
Will Qatar accept your car?
- Used light vehicles can generally be imported if they are no more than five years from their manufacture date; heavy vehicles ten years.
- The car must meet Qatar’s technical, safety and environmental standards and be left-hand drive to be registered.
- “GCC specs” alone does not guarantee acceptance, so we check your car’s eligibility before booking.
- Documents: invoice or ownership papers, UAE export certificate and plate cancellation, and the owner’s ID.
| Car shipping | Starts from |
|---|---|
| Sedan on an open carrier | 2,000 AED |
| SUV on an open carrier | 2,750 AED |
| Enclosed carrier | 4,100 AED |

Delivery to Doha flats: Al Sadd, Al Mansoura and Al Hilal
Most small shipments from Umm Al Quwain go to flats in central Doha, and each area has its own delivery conditions:
- Al Sadd: residential towers and busy streets during the day. We need the building name, flat number and a service-lift slot if the building requires booking, and we prefer morning deliveries.
- Al Mansoura: older buildings and narrower streets, and some buildings have no lift. Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift in advance so we send the right number of workers; we may use a smaller vehicle to reach the door.
- Al Hilal: low-rise buildings and villas divided into flats, sometimes entered from a side street. Send your map location on WhatsApp so the truck comes straight to you.
We also deliver to West Bay, The Pearl, Lusail, Al Waab, Al Gharafa, Al Duhail, Madinat Khalifa, Al Thumama and the Old Airport area, and to Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Muaither. For cargo: the Industrial Area and Birkat Al Awamer. On arrival the team unloads and assembles beds and wardrobes, and you check the cartons against the contents list.
Clearance at Abu Samra and duties in Qatar
Qatari customs clearance is electronic, through the Al Nadeeb system, at the Abu Samra border, and our team prepares the declaration from your documents. What you need to know:
- Used personal effects of someone moving to Qatar are cleared with a passport copy, Qatari ID and a detailed contents list.
- Goods of UAE (GCC) origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty.
- Goods of non-GCC origin usually attract the general customs duty of 5%, and new items in commercial quantities within personal effects are dutiable.
- The shipment may be physically inspected, so number your cartons and list what each number contains.
Road or sea? For flat contents, parcels and cars, road is the better fit because it runs door to door. Traders shipping full containers or heavy cargo have a sea option from Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to Hamad Port south of Doha, a short sailing of about two days plus port handling and clearance.

Air parcels from Umm Al Quwain to Qatar and volumetric weight
If you have urgent parcels, such as papers, small electronics or clothes you need before the truck arrives, we collect them in Umm Al Quwain and fly them from Dubai, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi airport to Hamad International Airport, usually arriving within one to two days including clearance.
On air freight a parcel is not charged on its scale weight alone but also on its volumetric weight, and the higher of the two applies. Volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
Volumetric weight example
A carton of clothes measures 50 × 40 × 40 cm and weighs 9 kg. Its volumetric weight = 50 × 40 × 40 ÷ 6000 = 80,000 ÷ 6000 = about 13.3 kg, so it is charged on 13.3 kg because that is higher. If you pack the same clothes tightly into a 40 × 30 × 30 cm carton, the volumetric weight drops to 6 kg, and the parcel is charged on its actual 9 kg.
- Use the smallest carton that fits; send small heavy items by air and large light items by road.
- Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted on air freight; ask the team before packing.
- Furniture is not suited to air freight.
- Price: send the dimensions and weight on WhatsApp and you will receive the price. If the parcel is not urgent, small parcels by road start from 45 AED.
Required documents
Personal effects and used furniture
- Passport copy.
- Qatari ID (residence permit) or national ID.
- A detailed contents list in Arabic or English, numbered by carton.
Commercial goods
- Commercial invoice and packing list.
- GCC certificate of origin for the duty exemption.
- The Qatari consignee’s commercial registration and importer details.
- Extra health requirements for food, medicines and cosmetics.
Cars
- Invoice or ownership papers.
- UAE export certificate and plate cancellation.
- Owner’s ID.
Packing for flat moves
In a shared truck your items are stacked next to other people’s, so good packing protects them and keeps them to the measured volume. We wrap mattresses in thick plastic covers, sofas in blankets and then plastic, and appliances in cardboard and foam, and every piece gets a label with your name and shipment number. Because the Qatari coast is humid in summer, we keep wood under blankets rather than directly against plastic, and put moisture absorbers in cartons of clothes and books.
Write on every carton its number and the room it goes to in Doha, not the room it came from in Umm Al Quwain. That way the team puts it in the right place straight away.
Prohibited and restricted items
Narcotics, weapons and ammunition without permits, counterfeit goods and gambling equipment cannot be shipped. Alcohol and pork products are restricted, and drones and some medicines need prior permits. Tell the team about any personal medicines before packing.
Warning: In a shared load, any item missing from your list can hold up a whole truck carrying other customers’ goods during inspection. List everything, even simple items.

- Actual volume: measured on loading day; dismantling and good packing reduce it.
- Floor and lift in Doha: a building with no lift needs more workers and time.
- City: Al Khor and Mesaieed are farther than central Doha.
- Type of shipment: shared is cheaper; dedicated is faster.
- Documents: complete papers avoid waiting and storage charges at the border.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to ship a flat from Umm Al Quwain to Qatar?
In a shared truck prices start from 90 AED per cubic metre. An average one-bedroom flat comes to about 8.8 m³ once dismantled, so roughly 792 AED as a starting point; the final price is set after the actual measurement.
How long does a shared shipment take?
About two to four days to Doha from when the truck leaves, including clearance, and the load may wait a few days before that to fill.
Can I ship just two cartons?
Yes. Small parcels by road start from 45 AED, and if they are urgent, air freight arrives in about one to two days.
Why photograph the car before shipping?
The photos record the car’s condition at collection, including the odometer and any existing scratches, so you can compare at delivery in Doha. We send them to you on WhatsApp on collection day.
My car is seven years old. Can it be shipped to Qatar?
Usually not, because Qatar limits imported used light vehicles to five years from the manufacture date. Send the car’s details and we will check before any booking.
How is an air parcel priced?
On actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. A 50 × 40 × 40 cm carton is charged at about 13.3 kg even if it weighs 9 kg.
Do you deliver to buildings without a lift in Al Mansoura?
Yes. Tell us the floor in advance so we send the right number of workers, as stair deliveries need more time and preparation.
