Fridge and freezer
Unplug the fridge 24 hours before collection, empty it, and leave the doors open so the freezer defrosts, then dry the bottom tray and the drip pan completely. Glass shelves come out and are wrapped separately, and the doors are taped or strapped shut. The fridge travels upright, and on arrival it should stand for a few hours before you switch it on so the compressor oil settles.
Washing machine, dryer and dishwasher
Run the drain cycle, then open the filter at the bottom of the washer to let the last water out. If you still have the drum transit bolts that came with the machine, refit them; they stop the drum knocking around on the road, and if they are lost the team braces the drum with suitable padding. Hoses are disconnected, dried and bagged inside the drum. The dishwasher is drained and its filter cleaned, and the dryer’s lint filter is cleared before wrapping.
Cooker, oven and gas
Disconnecting a cooker from the gas line is a technician’s job, not the loaders’, and we ask for it to be done the day before collection. The valve is closed and the connection capped; the hose and regulator are better replaced new in Qatif than moved. Gas cylinders are never shipped, empty or full, because they are pressure vessels. Kitchen units and small appliances
If the kitchen cabinets belong to you rather than the landlord, a carpenter dismantles them, the panels and doors are numbered, and the screws are bagged with each unit’s name. Bear in mind that marble or granite worktops are cut to your old kitchen and may not fit the one in Qatif, so decide before shipping them.
