When you look for a shipping company from UAE to Russia, you have two practical options: sea freight to Novorossiysk on the Black Sea or Saint Petersburg on the Baltic, then rail or truck to Moscow and other cities, or air freight to Moscow for urgent items. The Al Basmah International Shipping team collects from any emirate, packs furniture for winters that drop far below zero, and confirms the route and requirements with you at booking, because the papers differ between a personal-effects shipment and a commercial one. You get a WhatsApp message at every stage until delivery.

Before shipping to Russia
- Route and port are confirmed at booking: Novorossiysk for the south and central regions, Saint Petersburg for the north-west.
- Sea takes roughly 20–45 days depending on the port, plus inland transport; air to Moscow takes roughly 3–7 days.
- Furniture is packed for deep cold: moisture absorbers, and no freezable liquids.
- The inventory in Russian and your residence or commercial papers are prepared before sailing.
- Send the details on WhatsApp and get your price.
What we ship from the UAE to Russia
Demand on this route splits between families returning or moving to Russia with their household goods, and traders sending goods from the markets of Dubai and Sharjah to Moscow and other major cities.
- Household furniture and personal effects: full or partial moves, with furniture dismantled, numbered and packed for the cold.
- Commercial goods: consumer goods, clothing, household electronics, spare parts and packaging materials, as import rules allow at the time of shipping.
- Equipment: workshop and restaurant equipment and generators, secured in the container.
- Cars: after reviewing fees and the technical requirements for registration; not booked until the team confirms.
- Urgent parcels: documents, samples and light items by air.
Shipping commercial goods from Dubai and Sharjah markets
Many traders buy from several shops or warehouses in Dubai and Sharjah and want everything to leave in one container. In that case we collect from each supplier separately, check carton counts against the invoices, consolidate them in our warehouse and load them together. We ask each supplier for a clear invoice in the name of the importer in Russia, because mixed or missing invoices delay clearance. If the goods need a conformity certificate or Russian labels, it is better to prepare them before loading, not after the container lands.
For families returning to Russia after years of working in the UAE, the volume is usually large: a full set of furniture, appliances and children’s things. Here we advise sorting before packing; things that cost about the same in Russia don’t always justify the freight, while pieces with personal value or that are hard to find there deserve a good crate.
Pickup from every emirate
Our team comes to any emirate and collects from homes, warehouses and shops. Our branches are in Dubai – Deira, Port Saeed Street and Sharjah – Industrial Area 18, and you can bring small consignments to either one to be consolidated with other shipments.
| Emirate | Pickup notes |
|---|---|
| Dubai | Pickup from homes, markets and warehouses; usually shipped from Jebel Ali. |
| Abu Dhabi | Pickup from the city and industrial areas; Khalifa Port is available. |
| Sharjah | Close to our Industrial Area 18 branch; good for consolidating commercial goods. |
| Ajman | Pickup from shops and warehouses. |
| Ras Al Khaimah | Appointment in advance to prepare the truck and packing crew. |
| Umm Al Quwain | Pickup from homes and warehouses. |
| Fujairah | Loading from Fujairah port depending on the available service. |
| Al Ain | Pickup and container haulage to the right port. |
The sea route to Russia
Shipments on this route go by sea or air; we don’t use a road route from the UAE. By sea there are two main routings, and the team chooses between them at booking based on your city and the schedules available:
- Novorossiysk on the Black Sea: one of Russia’s largest ports, reached via the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean. From there cargo reaches Moscow by rail or truck, and Krasnodar, Rostov and Sochi over a short distance.
- Saint Petersburg on the Baltic: the main gateway for the north-west. The sea leg is longer because it goes around Europe, but it is closest for Saint Petersburg and the surrounding area.
- Far East ports: such as Vladivostok, for people living in the east, with the routing set case by case.
- Full container (FCL): 20 ft, 40 ft or 40 ft high cube, loaded at your door and sealed.
- Shared container (LCL): priced per cubic metre for small volumes, slower because of consolidation.
Some shipments pass through intermediate ports on the way, such as Turkish ports on the Mediterranean; that lane is covered in shipping from the UAE to Turkey. For a comparison with European routes in general, see shipping from the UAE to Europe.
Season affects this route more than most. In the coldest months the Baltic can freeze near Saint Petersburg, so shipping runs with icebreaker support and handling at ports and rail terminals can slow down. In the south the Black Sea has less ice in winter, but strong winds sometimes delay vessels entering port. So we give you an approximate date and update it as we go.

Transit times from the UAE to Russia
All times are approximate and change with the routing, vessel schedules and clearance time; the team confirms them at booking.
| Method | Approximate time | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sea, full container (FCL) | 20–30 days to Novorossiysk or 35–45 days to Saint Petersburg, then 3–10 days for clearance and inland transport | Home moves, commercial volumes | Your own container; routing confirmed at booking |
| Sea, shared (LCL) | Roughly 40–60 days to delivery | Small volumes or a few pallets | Extra time for consolidation and unpacking |
| Air | Roughly 3–7 days door to door | Documents, samples, urgent parcels | By actual or volumetric weight; not for furniture |
Air freight from the UAE to Moscow
Air is the choice for light parcels that can’t wait a month: papers, product samples, gifts, small spare parts, or winter clothes before the container lands. Cargo leaves Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airports and usually arrives at one of Moscow’s airports or at Pulkovo in Saint Petersburg; the team confirms the airport and available flight at booking.
- Pricing uses actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
- Air does not suit furniture; the cost climbs quickly with volume.
- Loose lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted; the team explains what is allowed and how to pack it.
- Commercial air parcels need an invoice and a clear description of the goods, just like sea freight.

Packing furniture for a harsh Russian winter
In winter the container may arrive at a port or rail terminal well below zero, sit in the yard for days before clearance, then travel a long way by train. In those conditions anything with water in it freezes, vapour condenses inside the container, and brittle materials crack if pressed while cold. So we pack like this:
- Desiccant bags inside the container and between furniture layers, in larger quantities than usual.
- Wood wrapped in breathable material before bubble wrap so vapour isn’t trapped against it.
- Washing machines, fridges and dishwashers fully drained, or the water freezes inside and damages pipes and pumps.
- No freezable liquids: detergents, oils, glass jars of food, liquid cosmetics.
- Screens and appliances in original boxes or padded crates, left for some hours after arrival before switching on.
- Plastics and painted items protected from pressure, as they crack more easily in the cold.
There is another factor people overlook: the inland rail leg. Rail wagons shake, stop and start many times over distances that can run to thousands of kilometres, so we secure the load inside the container with straps and dividing boards so nothing slides towards the door, put the heaviest items at the bottom and the lightest on top, and fill gaps with cartons or cushions so there is no room to shift. A tightly packed container arrives in far better shape than a half-empty one.

After delivery, leave electronics in the warm flat for several hours before plugging them in. Vapour that condenses inside them as they move from cold to warmth can cause a short circuit if they are switched on straight away.
Documents for shipping to Russia
Russia applies the customs rules of the Eurasian Economic Union alongside its national regulations, and the rules can change. So the team confirms the document list for your case at booking, and we don’t load the container until it is complete.
Household goods and personal effects
Used personal belongings can be relieved of duty in certain cases, such as a move for permanent or temporary residence depending on your legal status; otherwise the duty-free limits and set duties apply. The usual papers:
- A copy of your passport, and the visa or residence permit for non-citizens.
- A detailed inventory in Russian with description, quantity and approximate value.
- The sea bill of lading or air waybill.
- For foreigners: a letter from the employer and proof of registration at the place of residence.
- A notarised power of attorney for the customs broker; you may need to be in Russia at the time of clearance.
How should the inventory be written? Every carton gets a number, and under it a specific description: “Carton 14: ceramic plates, 24 pieces; glass cups, 12 pieces” instead of “kitchen items”. Appliances are listed by type, brand and used condition, furniture by number of pieces and material. The list is translated into Russian and must match the container; if a customs officer opens a carton and finds something different, the whole container may be inspected.
Commercial goods
Commercial imports are normally made in the name of an importer registered in Russia, with a trade contract, invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. Many goods need certificates or declarations of conformity with Eurasian Economic Union standards before release, and some need special labelling. Customs duty and VAT are calculated on the product’s tariff code at the time of import.
Cars
Importing cars into Russia involves high fees that vary with the car’s age, engine size and the importer’s status, plus technical requirements for registration. That is why we don’t advise shipping any car until the team has calculated the full cost and confirmed it can be registered.
Warning: An untranslated inventory, or a vague description such as “household goods” with no detail, is one of the most common reasons shipments stall at clearance. List each carton’s contents.
Prohibited and restricted items
- Weapons, ammunition and their parts, and narcotics in any form.
- Some medicines containing controlled substances; they need a prescription and may be refused.
- Meat, dairy and food not commercially packaged, plus plants and soil.
- Flammables: gas, paint, petrol, fireworks.
- Counterfeit goods.
- Goods under import restrictions at the time of shipping; the team reviews these with you before booking.
Shipping prices from the UAE to Russia
Price depends on the routing more than on almost any other lane: a container to Novorossiysk then rail to Moscow costs differently from one going straight to Saint Petersburg. Send the details on WhatsApp and get your price once the team has picked the best routing: the city, your item list or type of goods, and the volume or weight. You can also use our quote page.
What decides the price?
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Shipping method | FCL at a container rate, LCL per cubic metre, air by actual or volumetric weight. |
| Routing and port | Novorossiysk, Saint Petersburg or Far East ports, each with its own time and cost. |
| Container size | 20 ft, 40 ft or 40 ft HC depending on the amount of furniture or goods. |
| Inland transport | Rail or truck from the port to Moscow, the Urals or Siberia adds a long distance. |
| Cold-weather packing | Extra desiccants and crates for delicate pieces. |
| Documents and certificates | Conformity certificates and Russian translations of lists add steps and cost. |
| Car | The large fees are calculated separately and must be known before shipping. |
| Access to the address | Large trucks are restricted in city centres, so delivery may need a smaller truck. |

Tips before shipping to Russia
Start with the papers
Ask the team for the document list before you start packing; some papers need translation and notarisation.
Choose your arrival time
If you can, arrive outside the coldest months to make unloading and inland transport easier.
Write everything down
A detailed Russian list for each carton saves days at clearance.
Insurance is optional
Ask the team about optional insurance for long-haul shipments.
If you ship goods from more than one source, or are weighing buying in Dubai against buying directly in Asia, the Asian lane is covered in our UAE to China guide.
Delivery in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other cities
After release the cargo is taken to your address. In Moscow, heavy trucks are restricted in central districts and need permits, so the last leg may be done with a smaller truck. Most homes are flats in tall buildings with lifts, and we need the floor, lift size and entry code. In winter we allow for snow at entrances and short daylight hours when setting the delivery time.
| City | Usual arrival port | Delivery notes |
|---|---|---|
| Moscow | Novorossiysk or Saint Petersburg, then rail or truck | Restrictions on heavy trucks in the centre. |
| Saint Petersburg | Saint Petersburg | Closest to the port; historic buildings in the centre. |
| Krasnodar | Novorossiysk | Near the port, faster delivery. |
| Rostov-on-Don | Novorossiysk | Southern Russia, relatively short road leg. |
| Sochi | Novorossiysk | On the Black Sea coast. |
| Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod | Novorossiysk or Saint Petersburg, then rail | On the Volga, medium inland distance. |
| Yekaterinburg | Novorossiysk or Saint Petersburg, then rail | Urals region, long inland distance. |
| Novosibirsk | Set at booking | Siberia, harsher winter and a long rail leg. |
If your home isn’t ready when the cargo arrives, temporary storage can be arranged until you get the keys; we agree this at booking so port waiting charges don’t build up. Our advice for upper floors: book the lift with building management for delivery day and let your neighbours know, as unloading a full home can take hours.
