Shipping Company from UAE to Oman
Guide summary

Furniture, car and cargo shipping from Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and every emirate to Muscat, Sohar, Salalah and Khasab, by road in about one to five days with packing and clearance, or by air for urgent items.

Looking for a shipping company from UAE to Oman that moves your home furniture, your car or your shop stock from any emirate to a door in Muscat, Sohar or Salalah? Al Basmah International Shipping collects from Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi or any other emirate, packs the shipment and prepares its paperwork, and the truck then crosses the land border straight into Oman. Most shipments reach Muscat and Al Batinah in about one to three days, and Salalah in about three to five days, with furniture in a shared truck starting from 90 AED per cubic metre. If the shipment is urgent and light, air freight to Muscat airport cuts the time to roughly one or two days.

Before shipping to Oman

  • Road is usually the right choice: the truck leaves the UAE and enters Oman directly, with no sea leg and no port.
  • The crossing depends on where you are going: Hatta – Al Wajajah for Al Batinah and Muscat, Khatmat Malaha for Shinas and Sohar, Mezyad – Hafeet for Ibri and the interior, and the Ras Al Khaimah side for Musandam.
  • Goods of UAE origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty; Oman applies 5% VAT on imports.
  • Used cars are usually subject to an age limit of about 7 years from the manufacture date; we check your car’s conditions before booking.
  • The team sends you an update on WhatsApp at every stage: loading, border clearance and before arrival.

Land freight

The usual option for furniture, cars and cargo: roughly one to five days depending on the governorate.

Air freight

For urgent, light items to Muscat or Salalah airport, in about one to two days including clearance.

Sea freight

For large commercial loads through Sohar port or Salalah port, and Duqm for project cargo.

Car shipping

Open or enclosed carrier, with UAE export papers and plate cancellation prepared.

How does shipping from the UAE to Oman work?

Shipping from the UAE to Oman is done by road in most cases. The shipment is loaded into a closed truck at the sender’s door and driven to the border crossing that best serves the destination governorate. Papers are cleared on the UAE side and then on the Omani side, and the truck continues to the delivery address. There is no container to book and no vessel to wait for, which is why road stays the fastest and most economical route for most shipments between the two countries.

Three things change from one shipment to the next: what you are sending (household furniture, a car, commercial goods, a small parcel), which governorate it is going to, and whether you want a truck of your own or space in a shared truck. Based on those three, we choose the crossing, the vehicle size and the loading date, then send you the price on WhatsApp.

What do we ship from the UAE to Oman?

We ship anything allowed into the Sultanate, from a single room to a full house and from a carton of clothes to a commercial truckload. These are the requests we get most often:

  • Full home moves for people relocating to Oman for work or residence: bedrooms, majlis seating, kitchens and appliances, with dismantling, packing and reassembly.
  • Part loads of furniture, personal belongings and suitcases in a shared truck, priced by the cubic metre.
  • Car shipping for sedans and SUVs on an open carrier, or in an enclosed carrier for valuable cars.
  • Commercial goods for shops and companies: packaged food, clothing, household items, building materials, spare parts and light equipment.
  • Office and shop fit-outs, including restaurant and salon equipment, when you move or open a new branch in the Sultanate.
  • E-commerce and small parcels by road, starting from 45 AED.
  • Urgent shipments such as documents, light spare parts and samples, by air.

Where do we collect from in the UAE?

We collect from homes, warehouses and shops in all seven emirates, and we have two branches: Dubai — Deira, Port Saeed Street, and Sharjah — Industrial Area 18. These are examples of areas we collect from regularly; each emirate has its own guide if you want more detail:

UAE–Oman land crossings: which one suits your shipment?

The border between the two countries is long and has several crossings, and choosing the right one can save hundreds of kilometres. The rule is simple: we pick the crossing closest to your destination in Oman, taking into account the arrangements in force at that crossing when you ship. Working hours and the types of trucks allowed can change, so we do not promise a specific crossing before we have confirmed it.

Crossing UAE side Serves in Oman
Hatta – Al Wajajah Dubai (Hatta) Al Batinah and Muscat
Khatmat Malaha Sharjah (Kalba side) and Fujairah Shinas, Sohar and North Al Batinah
Mezyad – Hafeet Al Ain Ibri, Ad Dhahirah, Nizwa, Ad Dakhiliyah and the road to Salalah
Ras Al Khaimah side Ras Al Khaimah Musandam Governorate (Khasab)
Trucks at the Omani border post during customs clearance of a shipment from the UAE
Customs clearance at the Omani border

At the crossing the papers go to customs on both sides, and the shipment may be opened for inspection. Tidy packing and a clear contents list make the inspection quicker, which is why we number every carton and write what is inside it. The truck itself waits its turn in the freight lane, and the wait can stretch at busy times, which is why the times in the next table are approximate.

Transit times from the UAE to Oman by governorate

Times are counted door to door, including clearance at the crossing. This is an approximate table for road freight in a dedicated truck; a shared truck may wait a few extra days for its load to fill before it moves.

Omani governorate Main towns Usual crossing Approx. time
North and South Al Batinah Sohar, Shinas, Liwa, Saham, Barka, Rustaq Khatmat Malaha or Hatta – Al Wajajah 1 – 2 days
Muscat Seeb, Bausher, Muttrah, Al Amerat, Al Khoudh Hatta – Al Wajajah 1 – 3 days
Al Buraimi Al Buraimi, Mahdah Mezyad – Hafeet (from Al Ain) 1 – 2 days
Ad Dhahirah Ibri, Yanqul Mezyad – Hafeet 1 – 2 days
Ad Dakhiliyah Nizwa, Bahla, Adam, Samail Mezyad – Hafeet or via Muscat 2 – 3 days
North and South Ash Sharqiyah Sur, Ibra, Ja’alan Hatta – Al Wajajah, then via Muscat 2 – 4 days
Musandam Khasab, Bukha Ras Al Khaimah side 1 – 2 days
Al Wusta Duqm, Haima Mezyad – Hafeet or via Ad Dakhiliyah 3 – 4 days
Dhofar Salalah, Taqah, Mirbat, Thumrait Mezyad – Hafeet, then the interior road south 3 – 5 days

If you have a fixed date, such as handover of a new home or a shop opening, a dedicated truck is the safer choice because it leaves on the day you set. If the shipment is small and your timing is flexible, a shared truck saves you a lot.

Delivery in Muscat and the other governorates

Muscat is the most requested destination, and we deliver to all of its areas: Al Khuwair, Al Qurum, Madinat Sultan Qaboos, Al Ghubrah, Al Mawaleh, Al Khoudh, Bausher, Al Amerat, Seeb, Ruwi, Muttrah, Al Ansab and Ghala. In residential streets that are narrow, or buildings with small lifts, we tell you in advance if the goods need to move from the large truck to a smaller vehicle for the last stretch, so nothing surprises you on delivery day.

If you live in an apartment block, ask the building management about booking the service lift and the hours when furniture can be brought in, and send us the number of someone in Oman who can receive the shipment if you will not be there. In Sohar, Shinas and Barka, delivery is often on the same day as clearance because they are close to the border, while Sur, Ash Sharqiyah and the interior usually need about one extra day because of the longer road.

Shipping to Salalah and Dhofar

Salalah is far: it lies roughly 1,000 km south of Muscat, so road freight from the UAE takes about three to five days. The truck usually exits through the Mezyad – Hafeet crossing near Al Ain and then takes the interior road south through Adam, Haima and Thumrait into Dhofar. It is a long distance through areas with few services, so we make sure the truck is properly prepared and the load is well secured before it sets off.

Salalah also has its khareef season, when humidity rises and drizzle and fog are common. If your shipment will arrive during that season, we wrap wood, mattresses and appliances in an extra layer of plastic and put moisture absorbers in the cartons. Large commercial loads can go by sea through Salalah port, and urgent items can be flown straight to Salalah airport.

Shipping to Musandam and Khasab

Musandam Governorate is geographically separate from the rest of the Sultanate and borders UAE territory to the south, so shipments do not go there via Muscat. They leave directly from the Ras Al Khaimah side towards Khasab and arrive in about one to two days. The road is mountainous and runs along the sea for long stretches, so we usually use a medium dyna rather than a long truck, and we set the date once the crossing arrangements are confirmed. If you are moving furniture to Khasab or Bukha, mention it in your first message, because the planning differs from a Muscat shipment.

Moving furniture from the UAE to Oman

Most people who contact us about furniture are families relocating to Oman for work or returning to the Sultanate. We start by surveying the goods, either with a visit or from photos and video you send on WhatsApp, and we work out the volume in cubic metres to suggest the right option: space in a shared truck for a small load, a dedicated dyna, or a full closed truck for a large house.

  • Dismantling beds, wardrobes and kitchens, with parts and screws bagged and labelled.
  • Wrapping wooden surfaces and glass in blankets and foam, and mattresses in sealed plastic covers.
  • Loading the heaviest items at the bottom and the lightest on top, with the load strapped inside the truck.
  • A contents list in Arabic or English attached to the papers to speed up inspection at the crossing.
  • Unloading at the address and reassembling everything we took apart.

Large appliances need some preparation on your side before loading day: switch the fridge off at least a day ahead, clean it and dry it, drain the washing machine, and keep the original TV box if you still have it. These small details are what protect appliances from moisture and breakage on the road.

Packing for the road to Oman

The road to Oman passes through areas that are extremely hot in summer and through winding mountains, and the coast is humid most of the year. So we choose packing materials for the shipment in front of us, not out of habit:

  • Double-wall cartons for dishes and books, with packing paper between items.
  • Bubble wrap and foam corners for glass, mirrors, paintings and screens.
  • Moving blankets and plastic covers for wooden furniture so it does not crack in the heat or suffer from humidity.
  • Wooden crates for valuable or heavy pieces such as marble and antiques.
  • No open liquids or flammable materials with the furniture: they can damage what is around them and get the shipment held.

Car shipping from the UAE to Oman

We ship cars on open multi-car carriers, or in an enclosed carrier that protects the car from dust and sun, which suits newer and luxury cars best. The car is loaded and secured with wheel straps on the carrier in the UAE and is only unloaded in Oman, at the delivery address or the nearest point the carrier can reach.

Before booking, check Oman’s import conditions. The Sultanate usually limits imported used passenger cars to about 7 years from the manufacture date, and classic cars are only allowed with approval from the traffic authority. Because these conditions can change or vary with the type of car and the purpose of import, the team checks the current conditions for your car before shipping, so it is not turned back at the border.

After arrival, the car must meet Omani specifications and pass inspection before it can be registered in your name. If the car was originally imported into the UAE from outside the Gulf, ask the seller or dealer for proof of its specifications.

Commercial cargo from the UAE to Oman

For traders and companies we run regular road freight between the UAE and Oman, in a shared truck for small quantities or a full truck for large orders. You choose the size from a small closed dyna of about 3 tons, 5-ton and 7-ton dynas, a 10-ton lorry, and closed trailers of 12 to 13.6 metres. Every commercial shipment travels with the commercial invoice, the packing list, the certificate of origin and the Omani consignee’s commercial registration.

Very large or regular loads can also go by sea to Sohar port in the north or Salalah port in the south, and to Duqm port for project cargo. In most cases, though, road is simpler from the UAE because it takes the goods from your warehouse to the consignee’s warehouse with no extra haul from the port. Food, medicines and cosmetics have additional health requirements in Oman, so tell us what the goods are from the start and we will prepare the right papers.

Air freight from the UAE to Oman

Air freight is the choice when the shipment is urgent and light: documents, a spare part you need within a day, samples, small devices. The shipment leaves from Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airport for Muscat International Airport, or for Salalah airport in Dhofar, and usually arrives in one to two days including clearance.

  • The price is based on actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
  • Example: a 60 × 50 × 40 cm carton has a volumetric weight of 20 kg even if it actually weighs only 8 kg.
  • Furniture does not suit air freight because of its size and cost; for loads like that, road is cheaper and in practice just as quick.
  • Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted by air and need special packing and approval, or should go by road.

Air freight prices vary with weight, airport and timing, so send the details on WhatsApp and you will get the price.

Oman customs: the Bayan system, 5% VAT and GCC origin

Oman customs clears shipments electronically through the Bayan system, where the customs declaration and documents are submitted before or when the truck reaches the crossing. Goods of UAE origin, meaning made in the UAE or another GCC country, are exempt from customs duty when accompanied by a GCC certificate of origin; goods made outside the Gulf may be dutiable depending on what they are. In all cases, the Sultanate applies 5% VAT on imports.

Documents for personal effects and used furniture

  • Passport copy.
  • Omani residence card, or national ID for Omani citizens.
  • A detailed contents list in Arabic or English.
  • Note: new items in commercial quantities inside a household load are treated as goods and are dutiable.

Documents for commercial goods

  • Commercial invoice showing the value and type of goods.
  • Packing list with the number of packages and their weight.
  • Certificate of origin (GCC certificate for UAE goods).
  • Commercial registration of the consignee in Oman.
  • Additional health certificates for food, medicines and cosmetics.

Documents for cars

  • Vehicle registration (mulkiya).
  • UAE export certificate with the plates cancelled.
  • Owner’s passport or ID.
  • The car must be empty of personal belongings.

Prohibited and restricted items for Oman

Before you close the cartons, make sure the shipment contains nothing from this list, because a single prohibited item can hold the whole shipment at the crossing:

  • Narcotics of any kind.
  • Weapons and ammunition without permits.
  • Counterfeit goods and gambling equipment.
  • Alcohol and pork products, which are restricted.
  • Drones and some medicines, which need a prior permit.

Warning: If you are packing personal medication with your belongings, keep the prescription with it and ask the team before shipping any unusual medicine. Never hide anything inside furniture: inspection at the crossing can open any carton.

What decides the cost of shipping to Oman?

  • Volume and weight: furniture is usually priced by the cubic metre, cargo by weight or volume.
  • Governorate: Sohar and Al Buraimi are closer and cheaper; Salalah and Duqm are further and cost more.
  • Truck type: shared is cheaper; dedicated is faster and keeps to your date.
  • Packing, dismantling and reassembly: added according to the amount and type of goods.
  • Documents and clearance: these differ between personal effects, commercial goods and cars.
  • Access: upper floors without a lift or narrow streets may need extra labour or a smaller vehicle.

  3. We agree a loading date and come to dismantle, pack and load at your door.
  4. We prepare the declaration and documents, and the truck heads to the crossing for clearance on both sides.
  5. You get a WhatsApp update when the truck leaves, at clearance and before arrival.

Tips before shipping to Oman

  • Start on the paperwork at least a week ahead, especially the certificate of origin for goods and the car’s export papers.
  • Get rid of what you do not need before shipping; every cubic metre less means a lower price.
  • Write the room and contents on every carton; it speeds up inspection and unloading.
  • Keep jewellery, important documents and cash with you, not in the household load.
  • Ask the team about optional insurance if your shipment is valuable.

A tip from the road: if you are heading to Salalah or Sur, do not book your home handover for the same day you expect the truck. Leave a spare day, because the long road and the wait at the crossing can add hours nobody can predict.

If you also have a shipment going to the Kingdom, the details are in the UAE to Saudi Arabia shipping guide.
