Shipping Company from Abu Dhabi to Oman Kitchens, Family Belongings and Car Shipping
Guide summary

Move your family villa from Abu Dhabi to Sohar or Muscat by road, with the kitchen dismantled and packed and the SUV on a two-deck carrier, via Al Ain or the northern route depending on your destination.

Moving a whole family home from Abu Dhabi to Oman is usually done by road, in a closed truck loaded at your villa door and unloaded outside your new home in Sohar, Muscat or any other wilayat. As a shipping company from Abu Dhabi to Oman, we send the truck one of two ways: via Al Ain and the Mezyad – Hafeet crossing for inland destinations, or the northern route through Hatta – Al Wajajah or Khatmat Malaha toward Al Batinah and Muscat. Allow roughly one to two days to Sohar and one to three days to Muscat, including clearance.

Most people who contact us from Abu Dhabi are families moving a villa with a full kitchen, children’s rooms and a majlis, plus the family car. So this guide focuses on what actually matters to a family: taking the kitchen apart and packing the appliances, shipping the SUV, the documents, the prices, and what arrival day at the new house looks like.

The first step

  • Take a general photo of each room in the villa, and photograph the kitchen top to bottom with its appliances.
  • Tell us your area in Abu Dhabi and your destination in Oman: Sohar, Shinas, Barka, Muscat or elsewhere.
  • Say whether you are moving the kitchen cabinets themselves or only the appliances and kitchenware.
  • Send the family car’s make and year if it is coming with you.
  • Send it all on WhatsApp to +971557643821 and you will get the price and the suggested route.

Two routes from Abu Dhabi

Via Al Ain (Mezyad – Hafeet) for the interior and Ibri, or north (Hatta – Al Wajajah or Khatmat Malaha) for Al Batinah and Muscat.

Time to Sohar

About 1–2 days door to door including clearance in a dedicated truck.

The family car

On a two-deck open carrier from 2,750 AED for an SUV, or enclosed from 4,100 AED.

What do we move from Abu Dhabi to Oman?

We treat the shipment for what it really is: a house holding a whole family’s life. We don’t stop at the big furniture; we include the small things that usually go missing in a move, like toys, school books and garden tools.

  • Villa furniture: master bedrooms and children’s rooms, Arabic majlis seating, large dining tables and wardrobes.
  • Kitchens: upper and lower cabinets on request, large appliances, cookware and dinner sets.
  • Family belongings: clothes, toys, bicycles, prams, books and rugs.
  • Garden and roof items: outdoor seating, barbecues (without gas cylinders) and dismantled shades.
  • Cars: SUVs and sedans on an open carrier, or any car in an enclosed carrier.
  • Parcels and commercial goods: cartons, small parcels and pallets from Mussafah and the industrial areas.

Moving family villas with a full kitchen

The kitchen is the hardest room in any villa. It holds the heaviest appliances, the most breakables and cabinets fixed to the wall. So we start with a simple question: are you taking the kitchen cabinets themselves to Oman, or just the appliances and kitchenware?

Before you decide to move the kitchen cabinets

Ask your landlord in Oman for the new kitchen’s measurements: wall lengths, where the water and drain points are, and ceiling height. Cabinets made to measure for a villa kitchen in Khalifa City may not fit a narrower kitchen in Sohar. If the sizes are close, moving them is worth it; if not, it may be better to move only the appliances and kitchenware. If you want them refitted there, mention it in your request and the team will tell you what can be arranged.

How we dismantle and pack the kitchen

  • Cabinets are taken down unit by unit and numbered by position (upper right, under the sink…), and we sketch you a simple numbered plan.
  • Hinges, handles and screws go into bags tied to each unit, so you are not hunting for them in Oman.
  • A marble or granite worktop is carried upright on its edge, wrapped in thick cardboard and protective boards, never flat, because it can snap under its own weight.
  • The fridge is unplugged, emptied and left open to dry the day before, and the freezer is defrosted.
  • The dishwasher is drained, and the washing machine drum is locked with its transit bolts if you still have them.
  • The oven and hob are disconnected from the gas. Filled gas cylinders are not loaded with the shipment.
  • Dinner sets and glassware are wrapped piece by piece and packed in divided dish cartons.

A tip from experience: pack a “first night box” for the kitchen, with a kettle, a few cups and plates, cutlery, cleaning supplies and towels. It is loaded last and unloaded first, so nobody has to open twenty cartons to find a cup.

Children’s rooms and the majlis

Children’s beds are taken apart with their edges wrapped, and toys are gathered into cartons labelled with each child’s name. The long majlis sofas and cushions are wrapped in moving blankets and then stretch film, and rugs are rolled after being shaken out and covered in plastic.

Shipping the family car from Abu Dhabi to Oman

Most families bring a large SUV, which we usually ship on a two-deck open multi-car carrier. The car goes on the upper or lower deck depending on its weight, is strapped at all four wheels, and can be fitted with a protective cover on request. If the car is new or high-end and you want it fully shielded from dust and stones, the enclosed carrier is the option.

Shipping type Suits Starts from
Open carrier – sedan Small and mid-size cars 2,000 AED
Open carrier – SUV Large family cars 2,750 AED
Enclosed carrier Luxury, sports and new cars 4,100 AED

Before booking, send the car’s year of manufacture. Oman usually limits imported used passenger cars to about seven years from the manufacture date, and classic cars need traffic-authority approval. The team checks the current conditions for your car before loading. The car itself must also meet Omani specifications and pass inspection to be registered there.

  • Empty the car completely; do not turn it into an “extra carton” for belongings, as that delays clearance.
  • Leave a little fuel in the tank and make sure the battery is charged.
  • We photograph the car from every side at pickup and send you the photos on WhatsApp.
  • If you have two cars, say so; a multi-car carrier takes both in one trip.

Pickup areas in Abu Dhabi

We collect from every Abu Dhabi neighbourhood and suburb, as well as the industrial and free zones. These are the areas most family and trade shipments to Oman come from:

  • Villa communities: Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Shamkha, Al Reef, Al Raha Beach, Al Falah and Al Shahama.
  • On the island: Al Bateen, Al Mushrif, Al Khalidiyah, Al Muroor and Al Karamah.
  • Islands and newer developments: Al Reem Island, Yas Island and Saadiyat Island.
  • Industrial areas: Mussafah, ICAD, Baniyas and KIZAD.

If you live in Al Ain itself, see the Al Ain to Oman shipping guide, since Al Ain is much closer to the border.

Which route does a shipment from Abu Dhabi to Oman take?

Abu Dhabi is the one emirate where there is a real choice between two different routes, and which one fits depends on where you are going in Oman:

  • Via Al Ain – Mezyad – Hafeet crossing: the truck heads from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain and crosses near Jebel Hafeet. This usually suits Ibri and the Ad Dhahirah wilayats, and on to Nizwa and Ad Dakhiliyah.
  • Northern route – Hatta – Al Wajajah or Khatmat Malaha: the truck goes north toward Dubai or Sharjah, then crosses down to the Al Batinah plain. This usually suits Sohar, Shinas, Barka and Muscat.

We do not promise a specific crossing until the team has reviewed your destination and the crossings’ arrangements on shipping day. Sometimes the crossing that looks further on the map is the quicker one that day. Either way, you are told the expected route before loading.

Clearance in Oman is electronic, through the Bayan system. A detailed contents list in Arabic or English that matches the carton numbers is the fastest way to get through the border without a long stop.

Transit times from Abu Dhabi to Omani cities

These are approximate door-to-door times including clearance. A dedicated truck for your family leaves on the date you choose; a shared load may wait a few extra days to fill.

Destination in Oman Approx. time Usual route from Abu Dhabi
Sohar, Shinas and Barka 1–2 days North (Hatta – Al Wajajah or Khatmat Malaha)
Muscat 1–3 days North via Hatta – Al Wajajah
Al Buraimi and Ibri 1–2 days Via Al Ain
Nizwa and Ad Dakhiliyah 2–3 days Via Al Ain (Mezyad – Hafeet)
Sur and Ash Sharqiyah 2–4 days North, then through Muscat
Khasab (Musandam) 1–2 days from Ras Al Khaimah From the Ras Al Khaimah side
Salalah (Dhofar) 3–5 days South through the interior

Duqm takes about 3–4 days. Salalah is roughly 1,000 km from Muscat, the longest distance in the table.

Delivery to Sohar and family homes in Al Batinah

Sohar is one of the destinations families moving from Abu Dhabi ask for most, because it is a large industrial city with a port, a free zone and plenty of jobs. Homes there are mostly villas or ground-floor houses with a yard, which makes unloading easier than in towers, but watch the width of the street outside; if it is narrow, tell us so we send a truck of the right size.

We also deliver to other Al Batinah wilayats such as Shinas, Saham, Al Khaburah, Al Suwaiq and Barka; in Muscat to Al Khuwair, Al Qurum, Madinat Sultan Qaboos, Al Mawaleh, Al Khoudh, Al Amerat, Seeb, Al Ansab and Al Ghubrah; and to Al Buraimi, Ibri, Nizwa, Sur and Salalah. In Salalah, if delivery falls in the humid khareef season, we use packing that protects wood and appliances from moisture.

  • At delivery the crew carries the cartons into the rooms according to the numbers written on them.
  • Reassembling the beds and tables taken apart at pickup is agreed with the team in advance.
  • You check the cartons against the list before the crew leaves.

Air freight from Abu Dhabi to Muscat

Air freight from Abu Dhabi airport to Muscat International Airport (and Salalah airport for Dhofar) usually takes one to two days including clearance. It suits a family that needs something before the truck arrives: a school file, prescription medicine, a work device or a suitcase of clothes for the first week.

  • It does not suit furniture or kitchens; road is far cheaper and the distance is short.
  • It is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher (length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000).
  • Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted by air; tell us before packing.
  • The price depends on the parcel: send the details on WhatsApp and you will receive the price.

Packing in Abu Dhabi villas

A villa means more volume and heavier pieces, and loading day can run from morning to evening. We work room by room and leave the kitchen and the main bedrooms until last, so the family can keep using them until the final moment.

  • Wooden furniture: moving blankets, then stretch film, with cardboard corner guards.
  • Beds and large wardrobes: taken apart, with their parts numbered.
  • Mirrors, paintings and glass tables: heavy cartons cut to size and loaded upright.
  • Mattresses: covers that keep out dust and moisture.
  • Clothes: wardrobe boxes with hanging rails, so nothing needs ironing again.
  • Electronics: their original boxes if you have them, or full padding.

Because the Al Batinah and Muscat coast is hot and humid, we never leave wood sealed in plastic directly against its surface for long; the blanket goes on first, then the outer wrap.

Documents required

Used family belongings

  • A copy of the shipment owner’s passport.
  • Omani residence card, or national ID for an Omani citizen.
  • A detailed contents list in Arabic or English.

Used furniture and belongings of a family moving to live in Oman are treated as personal effects. But if you buy new appliances in commercial quantities before travelling, those are treated as goods and are dutiable.

Commercial goods

  • Commercial invoice and packing list.
  • Certificate of origin; goods of UAE (GCC) origin with a GCC certificate of origin are exempt from customs duty.
  • The Omani consignee’s commercial registration.
  • Extra health requirements for food, medicines and cosmetics.

Oman’s VAT on imports is 5%, and it applies even to goods exempt from customs duty.

The family car

  • Vehicle registration (mulkiya).
  • UAE export certificate and plate cancellation.
  • A copy of the owner’s passport or ID.
  • The car empty of personal belongings.

Prohibited and restricted items

  • Prohibited: narcotics, weapons and ammunition without permits, counterfeit goods and gambling equipment.
  • Restricted: alcohol and pork products.
  • Prior permit needed: drones and some medicines.

Warning: Do not pack the family’s prescription medicines in the shipment cartons without telling us. Some medicines need a permit, and the safest option is to carry what you need with you along with the prescription.

Prices start from

Service Starts from
Furniture and household goods in a shared truck 90 AED per cubic metre
Small parcels by road 45 AED
Sedan on an open carrier 2,000 AED
SUV on an open carrier 2,750 AED
Any car in an enclosed carrier 4,100 AED

The final price depends on volume, weight, the city in Oman, packing and documents. A five-bedroom villa with a full kitchen usually needs a dedicated truck, while a small flat may fit into space on a shared one. You can also use the quote request page.

What decides the cost of moving your home?

  • Volume in cubic metres, the basis of a shared load.
  • Whether the kitchen cabinets are moving: they add volume and time for dismantling and packing.
  • Dedicated or shared truck.
  • Destination: Sohar and Al Buraimi are closer than Sur and Salalah.
  • Number of cars and type of carrier.
  • The level of packing required, and heavy pieces such as marble worktops.

Steps to move your home from Abu Dhabi to Oman

  1. Send photos of the rooms and kitchen and your destination in Oman on WhatsApp.
  2. The team works out the volume, truck type and expected route, and sends the price.
  3. You prepare the papers: passport, residence card or ID, and the car documents.
  4. Loading day: dismantling, packing and numbering, then writing up the contents list.
  5. The car is loaded onto the carrier if it is part of the shipment.
  6. The truck sets off, and you get an update at the border and after clearance.
  7. Delivery at the new house and a check of the cartons against the list.

Tips for families before the move

  • Start sorting two weeks ahead; every carton you don’t need costs you in shipping.
  • If you have children in school, book loading after the school year or term ends.
  • Carry jewellery, cash, official papers and the children’s certificates with you.
  • Ask the team about optional insurance if you have high-value pieces.
  • Make sure the new house is ready and open on arrival day, with power and water connected.

Warning: Do not cancel the family car’s plates before agreeing the loading date with the team. A car with cancelled plates cannot be driven, and if the carrier is delayed the car will just sit there.

If you also have belongings in Dubai, the Dubai to Oman shipping guide may help, and the overall picture for every emirate is in shipping from the UAE to Oman. If you are weighing Saudi Arabia instead of Oman, see shipping from Abu Dhabi to Saudi Arabia.
