A family moving from an Abu Dhabi villa to a house in Riffa is not shipping a few boxes. It is shipping a whole living room with big sofas and glass tables, the children’s rooms, and the SUV that carries everyone. The right shipping company from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain for that kind of move plans the weeks before loading day with you, not just the day itself. Al Basmah International Shipping collects from your villa anywhere in Abu Dhabi, wraps the furniture in several layers, and sends the truck west to the Al Ghuwaifat border close to the capital, through Saudi Arabia in transit and over the King Fahd Causeway, reaching most of Bahrain in about 2–4 days. Furniture in a shared truck starts from AED 90 per cubic metre; an SUV starts from AED 2,750 on an open carrier or AED 4,100 in an enclosed one.

Family move steps
- Send photos of the rooms on WhatsApp so we can estimate volume and truck type.
- Set loading day after the school term ends, or a few days before you take the Bahrain house.
- Prepare documents: passport, Bahraini CPR or residence permit, and the contents list.
- Loading day: dismantling, multi-layer wrapping and numbering cartons by room.
- The car travels in its own carrier, enclosed if you prefer, after its specifications are checked against Bahrain’s conditions.
- Delivery to your house in Riffa or elsewhere, with reassembly and a check of the list.
This guide covers departures from Abu Dhabi. It includes a family relocation timeline, how we pack villa furniture, large-car shipping, the route and timings, air freight, documents and prices. For the overall picture across the emirates, see the UAE to Bahrain shipping guide.
Why is Abu Dhabi the shortest starting point for Bahrain?
Abu Dhabi is the closest emirate to the Al Ghuwaifat border with Saudi Arabia, the crossing every road shipment to Bahrain uses. A truck loaded in Mohammed Bin Zayed City or Mussafah takes the western road through Al Dhafra directly, without first crossing Dubai and Sharjah. That means fewer hours on the road before the border and a better chance of reaching Al Ghuwaifat early in the day.
Being close does not shorten the paperwork. The shipment still crosses Saudi Arabia in customs transit, and documents must be complete before leaving Abu Dhabi, exactly as if the truck were coming from Ras Al Khaimah.
A family relocation timeline from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain
A family move succeeds or stumbles in the weeks before it. This is the order we suggest to families; adjust it to your circumstances:
| When? | What the family does | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| About 3 weeks before | Fix the handover date of the Bahrain house and end the Abu Dhabi villa lease | Estimate volume from photos and suggest a truck type |
| 2 weeks before | Sort belongings: what ships, what is sold or donated | Confirm loading date and send the document list |
| 1 week before | Send passport, CPR or residence permit copies and car papers | Check the car’s specifications against Bahrain’s conditions and book the carrier |
| 2 days before | Empty and dry the fridge, pack a first-days bag | Confirm crew size and packing materials |
| Loading day | One family member present to check the list | Dismantle, wrap, number, load |
| Crossing day | Follow the WhatsApp updates | Border, transit, causeway and clearance |
| Arrival day | Welcome the crew at the Bahrain house | Room-by-room placement, reassembly and list check |
Families with school-age children often prefer loading at the end of the school week, so the furniture arrives before the family or on roughly the same day and nobody spends nights in a hotel.
What do we ship from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain?
Family villa furniture
Living rooms and majlis seating, parents’ and children’s bedrooms, glass tables, appliances, garden furniture.
SUVs
On an open carrier from AED 2,750, or enclosed from AED 4,100 for a luxury or new car.
Parcels and cartons
Clothes, books, toys and kitchenware, by road from AED 45.
Goods and equipment
Commercial loads from Mussafah and KIZAD, by road or by sea from Khalifa Port.
We also ship the family’s second car, children’s bikes, sports gear and dismantled window AC units if you want them. The earlier the list reaches us, the better the truck is planned.
Villa living rooms: big sofas, glass tables and multi-layer wrapping
An Abu Dhabi villa living room is not an apartment living room. Sofas are longer and heavier, often L-shaped or floor majlis sets with many cushions; coffee and side tables are thick glass or marble; rugs are large. These are the pieces that get damaged on a long haul when they are wrapped in a single layer.
Large and corner sofas
We separate a corner sofa into its modules where it comes apart, unscrew the legs and bag them with the piece’s name. Each module then gets three layers: thin film to keep dust off and protect fabric or leather, a thick moving blanket, then securing tape that never touches the fabric directly. Leather sofas are never left in plastic alone in the heat, because heat traps moisture against the leather.
Glass and marble tables
A glass top always comes off its base. We guard the edges with card corners, wrap it in bubble wrap and rigid board, and build a wooden frame for large panels. The panel travels standing on its long edge, held between soft items such as mattresses, and never lies flat under weight. The metal or wooden base is wrapped separately, with its screws taped to it.

Children’s rooms and the kitchen
Children’s rooms have bunk beds, small wardrobes and a lot of toys. Toys go in separate cartons labelled with each child’s name so they are easy to find on the first night. The kitchen is packed last: plates wrapped in paper and stood on edge, heavy pots at the bottom, oils and liquids left out of the shipment.
Humidity at the other end
Bahrain’s summers are hot and very humid. We put moisture absorbers in cartons of clothes, books and papers, keep a blanket layer between wood and plastic, and advise unwrapping wooden furniture within a day or two of arrival rather than leaving it wrapped for weeks in a store room or garage.
Pickup areas in Abu Dhabi
We collect from villas, flats and warehouses across the emirate:
- The island and Corniche: Al Khalidiyah, Al Bateen, Al Mushrif, Al Karamah, Al Zahiyah, Tourist Club Area.
- The islands: Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, Al Maryah Island.
- Mainland villa areas: Khalifa City, Al Raha Beach, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Shakhbout City, Al Shamkha, Al Falah, Al Reef.
- Industrial and commercial: Mussafah, Khalifa Economic Zones (KIZAD), Al Mafraq Industrial Area.
- Al Dhafra region: Ruwais and Madinat Zayed, which lie on the truck’s road to Al Ghuwaifat.
Shipping SUVs from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain
In most Abu Dhabi homes the SUV is the family car, and it is usually large and valuable. There are two options: an open multi-car carrier from AED 2,750, or an enclosed carrier from AED 4,100. We recommend enclosed for new or luxury cars and for dark paint that shows dust and grit marks, because the road crosses desert, then Al Ahsa and the east coast.
- We check the model year and specifications with you against Bahrain’s current conditions for imported used cars before shipping.
- The car is completely empty: no loose child seats, nothing in the boot.
- It is photographed from every side and the photos are sent to you on WhatsApp before the carrier is closed.
- Bike racks and roof boxes come off and travel with the furniture.
- About a quarter tank of fuel, and keep the spare key with you.

If the family is shipping two cars, both can travel on the same carrier. If you want to drive one yourself over the causeway, ask us how to split the paperwork between the shipped car and the driven car so nothing gets mixed up at the border.
Warning: Child seats and strollers go with the furniture in numbered cartons, not inside the car. A car loaded with belongings is held longer at inspection on the causeway.
The truck route from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain
- Loading in Abu Dhabi, then the western road through Al Dhafra via Ruwais.
- Al Ghuwaifat (UAE) and Al Batha (Saudi Arabia): the load is sealed and registered for transit.
- Al Ahsa, then Dammam and Khobar.
- The King Fahd Causeway, about 25 km over the sea, with clearance on its middle island where both countries’ customs sit.
- Entry into Bahrain and delivery to Riffa or any other area.
Transit means the truck crosses Saudi Arabia sealed, without its goods being cleared into the Kingdom. Any gap in the papers shows up at the first border, so we go through them with you before loading day. If you are shipping to the Kingdom itself, see shipping from Abu Dhabi to Saudi Arabia, or shipping from Abu Dhabi to Dammam, where the causeway begins.
Transit times from Abu Dhabi to areas of Bahrain
Door to door, including clearance, a road shipment from Abu Dhabi needs about 2–4 days to any area of Bahrain. Distances inside Bahrain are short; after the causeway, Manama and Riffa are an hour or less apart. A shared load may wait a few days to fill, while a dedicated truck leaves on the date you set.
| Area | Approx. time | Type of housing |
|---|---|---|
| Manama | 2–4 days | Flats, towers and offices |
| Muharraq | 2–4 days | Family houses and older districts |
| Seef and Juffair | 2–4 days | Residential towers |
| Riffa | 2–4 days | Family houses and villas |
| Isa Town and Hamad Town | 2–4 days | Family residential districts |
| Budaiya | 2–4 days | Villas and farms |
| Amwaj Islands | 2–4 days | Villas and flats in a gated community |
Times are approximate and change with seasons and border queues. You get a WhatsApp update at each stage: loading, Al Ghuwaifat, the causeway, and before arrival.
Delivery to family houses in Riffa
Riffa, East and West, is one of the areas where families from Abu Dhabi most often settle, because the houses are spacious, with gardens and garages. A house there is different from a tower: usually no service lift or management permit, but sometimes narrow entrances, an internal staircase to the first floor, and residential streets a long trailer cannot enter.
So we arrange the last stretch with a smaller dyna when needed, carry every piece to its room by number, reassemble beds, wardrobes and the dining table, and put the glass tops back on their bases. Before the crew leaves, a family member goes through the list with us item by item.

We also deliver to Isa Town, Hamad Town, Saar, Janabiya, Budaiya, Tubli, Salmabad, Sitra and Hidd; to Manama, Adliya, Juffair, Seef, Bahrain Bay and Sanabis; and to Muharraq, Busaiteen, Diyar Al Muharraq and Amwaj Islands. Large trucks may be subject to time windows on the causeway and in Manama, and the team schedules delivery accordingly.
Clearance on the causeway’s middle island is handled electronically through Bahrain Customs’ OFOQ system. An accurate contents list in Arabic or English keeps that step short.
Air freight from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain
From Abu Dhabi airport to Bahrain International Airport in Muharraq, air freight usually takes 1–2 days including clearance. Families use it for what they need from day one: official papers, school files, work devices, some clothes. Furniture does not suit air, because of size and cost.
- Charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
- Example: a 70×45×30 cm suitcase has a volumetric weight of 15.75 kg.
- Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted by air.
- Price: send the details on WhatsApp and you will get the price.

Road or sea from Abu Dhabi?
Road is the natural choice for villa furniture and cars because it reaches the door. Sea suits full containers and heavy commercial cargo: from Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi to Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Hidd, a short sailing followed by port handling and clearance. Companies in Mussafah and KIZAD shipping equipment or full containers benefit from this option. Price: send the details on WhatsApp and you will get the price.
Required documents

- Passport copy of the shipment owner.

What changes the cost of a villa move?
- Number of rooms and size of the living area: a five-bedroom villa with a majlis may need a 12–13.6 m closed trailer instead of space in a shared truck.
- Truck type: a closed dyna (about 3 tons), 5- or 7-ton dynas, a 10-ton lorry, or a trailer.
- Special packing: wooden frames for glass and marble, triple wrapping for sofas.
- Cars: how many, and which carrier.
- Access at the house: internal stairs, a narrow street, or a dyna for the last stretch.
- Duties: only on commercial goods or new items in commercial quantities.
For extra protection, ask the team about optional insurance.

Tips for families before shipping
- Measure the doors and stairs of the Bahrain house before shipping a corner sofa or large wardrobe.
- Label the children’s cartons with their names and put their first-night things inside.
- Photograph glass tables and appliances before packing.
- Keep gold, papers and cash with you.
- If the Bahrain lease starts on a fixed day, choose a dedicated truck rather than waiting.
From families who have done it: clear one room in the villa before loading day for everything that is not going, and close its door. It stops things you meant to sell or leave from being wrapped and loaded.
Warning: Do not add boxed new appliances in commercial quantities to the family furniture. They are treated as goods and delay clearance of the whole shipment.
If you are comparing starting points, see shipping from Dubai to Bahrain and shipping from Al Ain to Bahrain, and if Doha is your destination, there is shipping from Abu Dhabi to Qatar.
Frequently asked questions about shipping from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain
How long does a villa move from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain take?
About 2–4 days door to door, including clearance. A dedicated truck leaves on your date; a shared one may wait a few days to fill.
Is Abu Dhabi faster than Dubai for reaching Bahrain?
Abu Dhabi is the closest emirate to Al Ghuwaifat, so there are fewer road hours before the border. The overall time is still about 2–4 days, because transit, the causeway and clearance are shared stages.
How do you protect glass tables and large sofas?
Glass comes off its base and is wrapped in bubble wrap and board or a wooden frame and loaded upright; sofas are split into modules and wrapped in film, a blanket, then securing tape.
Open or enclosed carrier for an SUV?
Open starts from AED 2,750 and suits a regular used SUV; enclosed starts from AED 4,100 and suits a new or luxury car or dark paint.
Does Bahrain have an age limit for used cars?
Bahrain sets conditions on imported used cars covering age, specifications and inspection. We check the model year and specifications against the current conditions before shipping.
Which documents are needed for family furniture?
A passport copy, a Bahraini CPR or residence permit, and a detailed contents list in Arabic or English.
Do you carry furniture upstairs in Riffa houses?
Yes. We carry pieces up the internal stairs to their rooms and reassemble them, and use a smaller dyna if the street cannot take the large truck.
