If you run a workshop in Sharjah and need to move a lathe, a drill press, welding machines or a full set of tools to Aleppo or anywhere else in Syria, Al Basmah International Shipping collects them from your premises and ships them by road through Saudi Arabia and Jordan to the Nasib crossing and on to the workshop door, or by sea in a container to Latakia or Tartus when the load is very heavy. As a shipping company from Sharjah to Syria, we work from our branch in Industrial Area 18, right where most of these machines come from. Road shipping takes roughly 8 to 14 days door to door, clearances included.

This guide is written for workshop owners and craftsmen: turners, welders, mechanics, carpenters and maintenance technicians who want to take their equipment with them, or set up a new workshop in Syria with machines bought in the Sharjah market. It covers how a machine is prepared, which documents you need, when road makes sense and when sea is better, and how unloading works in Aleppo.
Machines on their skids
- Collection from Sharjah’s industrial areas and free zones; preparation at our Industrial Area 18 branch.
- Every machine is bolted to a wooden skid or closed in a crate, after oil is drained and bare surfaces are protected against rust.
- Road is the usual way (roughly 8–14 days), sea suits containers and heavy machines (roughly 3–4 weeks), air is for urgent spare parts.
- Documents: commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin for equipment; a contents list for personal effects.
- Pickup trucks are shipped only after the team confirms they can be imported under the current rules.
- Every shipment is priced on its own: send the details on WhatsApp and you will get the price.
What do we ship from Sharjah to Syria?
From Sharjah to Syria we ship everything a complete workshop needs: heavy machines on skids, hand and power tools in crates, spare parts, raw materials in commercial quantities, plus household goods and vehicles once their eligibility is checked. Most of what leaves our Sharjah branch, though, is equipment, because the industrial area has a large market for new and used machines.
- Machine tools: lathes of all sizes, pillar drills (drill presses), milling machines, power saws, grinders.
- Welding and cutting: inverter, TIG and MIG welders, plasma cutters, steel benches and heavy vices.
- Garage and maintenance equipment: air compressors, hydraulic car lifts, tyre changers and balancers, battery chargers, complete tool chests.
- Woodwork and aluminium: table saws, planers and thicknessers, aluminium fabrication machines.
- Small and mid-size generators: with the fuel fully drained.
- Tools and instruments: spanner sets, power tools, measuring instruments and spare parts in reinforced cartons or numbered wooden crates.
- Pickup trucks and small cars: after an eligibility check, covered in its own section below.

Shipping a machine is nothing like shipping a carton of clothes. A machine is heavy, often top-heavy, holds oil, has moving parts and bare steel that rusts in humid air. So we never load it as it stands. We prepare it so it arrives in Aleppo ready to be installed, not waiting for a turner to repair what the road did to it.
Pickup areas in Sharjah
We collect from anywhere in Sharjah and agree the pickup time with you on WhatsApp. If the machines are in your workshop we send a truck suited to the weight; if you bought them from a dealer in the industrial area we collect straight from the dealer once you confirm payment and quantities.
Industrial areas
Industrial Areas 1 to 18, including our branch in Industrial Area 18, and Al Sajaa Industrial Area.
Free zones
Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF Zone) and Hamriyah Free Zone, with the free-zone exit paperwork coordinated.
Residential districts
Al Nahda, Al Taawun, Al Majaz, Al Khan, Al Qasimia, Abu Shagara, Muwaileh, Al Rahmaniya, Al Suyoh, Al Yarmook.
East coast
Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Dibba Al Hisn by prior arrangement, since the truck is sent on a dedicated run.
Many customers in Dubai and Ajman bring their machines to the Industrial Area 18 branch themselves, since they bought them in Sharjah anyway. If your goods are elsewhere, see also shipping company from Ajman to Syria and shipping company from Dubai to Syria.
Preparing machines and tools for shipping
Preparation decides how a machine arrives. We do it at the branch or at your site depending on size, and once it is done you receive a photo of the machine on its skid on WhatsApp before loading.
Draining oil and fluids
A lathe carries oil in its gearbox, and most machines have a coolant tank. We drain these before shipping, because the vibration of a long road trip makes them leak over the machine and over the cargo next to it. Compressors are drained of oil with their valves opened, and generators have their fuel removed completely. Tell us the oil grade so the technician in Aleppo can refill to the same specification.
Locking moving parts
The lathe carriage and tailstock, the drill press arm and the milling table are locked in place and strapped, and a press head is lowered to its lowest point. Parts that come off easily, such as the chuck and extra shafts, are removed, wrapped and packed in a separate numbered box carrying the machine’s own number.
Rust protection
The route crosses different climates, and a sea container gets very humid inside. Bare machined surfaces such as the lathe bed and its ways are coated with anti-rust grease, wrapped in anti-corrosion paper or film, and desiccant bags go into the crate. Electronic welders are wrapped in film to keep moisture and dust off their boards.
Skids and crates
Every heavy machine is bolted to a strong wooden skid so a forklift can lift it from either side. Sensitive machines or those with control panels are closed in full wooden crates. For sea shipments we use heat-treated timber carrying the ISPM-15 stamp, since many ports require it for wooden packaging. Each crate is marked with the receiver’s name, governorate, weight, piece number out of the total, and this-way-up arrows.
Hand and power tools
Small tools are not thrown into one carton. Power tools go in reinforced cartons with dividers, spanners and heavy hand tools in small wooden boxes so they do not tear through cardboard, and precision instruments like micrometers and callipers stay in their original cases. Batteries from cordless tools (lithium) are separated from the tools and declared on the contents list, as they have special transport rules.
Warning: Compressed gas cylinders (oxygen, argon, CO2, acetylene) cannot travel full, and are usually not accepted even empty without prior approval. Ask the team before packing them with your welders.
Documents: workshop equipment, personal effects, vehicles
Documents depend on what you ship, and Syrian customs rules on personal effects, vehicle imports and fees change from time to time, so the team checks the current rules for your case before booking and tells you what is missing. These are the documents usually required:
Workshop equipment and commercial goods
- A commercial invoice listing each machine by type, brand, serial number and value, even when used.
- A packing list with the number of pieces and the weight and dimensions of every crate.
- A certificate of origin from the competent UAE body, such as the chamber of commerce. Goods of Arab origin may benefit from the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA); most machines, however, are of Asian or European origin.
- Full details of the importer or receiver in Syria.
- Some items may need conformity certificates or prior approvals, and the team checks this before booking.
Personal effects and a craftsman’s own tools
If the tools are your personal property travelling with your household goods, you usually need a passport copy, a detailed contents list (Arabic preferred) and the receiver’s details. The team will tell you whether your quantity of tools is treated as personal effects or as commercial goods under the rules in force at the time.
Pickup trucks
Ownership papers, the UAE export certificate and plate cancellation, the owner’s passport copy, and a vehicle completely empty of belongings, all after the team confirms the vehicle can be imported under the current rules.
Shipping pickup trucks from Sharjah to Syria
A pickup is the working vehicle of every tradesman, so many workshop owners ask us to ship one along with their equipment. We do, but only after an eligibility check. Syria’s vehicle import rules change and may depend on model year, vehicle type or the owner’s status, so we do not book until the team has reviewed your vehicle’s details and confirmed it can be imported.

- Send a photo of the ownership card, the model and the year on WhatsApp and you will hear back on eligibility, documents and price.
- The pickup bed must be empty; equipment travels in the truck separately with its own list.
- Pickups go by road on a car carrier, and their condition is photographed from every side at collection and sent to you.
- Keep the fuel tank low and remove loose add-ons such as unbolted toolboxes on the bed.
The road route from Sharjah to Syria
Road is the usual way for equipment and mixed loads. The truck leaves Sharjah for the Al Ghuwaifat border, enters Saudi Arabia at Al Batha in sealed transit, crosses to Jordan at Al Omari, also in transit, then passes from Jaber in Jordan to Nasib in Syria, and on to Damascus, Aleppo and the other governorates. The distance is roughly 2,800 to 3,000 km, and door to door takes about 8 to 14 days including clearances.
Transit through several countries means the paperwork must be complete and match the cargo before the truck moves; a machine missing from the list can hold the truck at a border. That is why we check every crate against the packing list before closing it. If you also have cargo for Jordan on the same road, see shipping company from Sharjah to Jordan.
| Stage | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Collection and preparation | Your site in Sharjah or the Industrial Area 18 branch | Draining oil, skids, packing, checking against the list |
| Leaving the UAE | Al Ghuwaifat border | Export clearance and sealing |
| Transit through Saudi Arabia | Al Batha border, then on to the Jordanian border | Sealed transit, cargo not opened |
| Transit through Jordan | Al Omari border, then to Jaber | Transit, documents checked again |
| Entering Syria | Jaber – Nasib crossing | Syrian customs clearance |
| Distribution | Damascus, then Aleppo and other governorates | Unloading by forklift or crane depending on weight |
Along the way the team sends you a WhatsApp update at each stage: leaving Sharjah, each border crossing, arrival in Syria and the delivery appointment.
Road, sea or air? Comparing the ways to ship to Syria
The team recommends the right method at booking, based on weight, size and urgency. The general rule for workshop cargo: road for mid-size machines and mixed loads, sea for a full container or very heavy machines, and air only for urgent spare parts.
| Method | Approximate time | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road | 8–14 days door to door | Mid-size machines, tools, mixed loads, pickups | Transit through Saudi Arabia and Jordan; needs complete documents |
| Sea | Roughly 3–4 weeks plus clearance | Full containers, heavy or oversized machines | From Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port to Latakia or Tartus via the Red Sea and Suez Canal |
| Air | A few days including clearance | Spare parts, control boards, precision tools, documents | Not for heavy machines; batteries and liquids restricted |
When should your machines go by sea?
If a machine is longer than a truck bed or heavier than its comfortable payload, or you are moving a whole workshop that fills a 40-foot container, sea is cheaper and safer for big machinery. The container is loaded in Sharjah, moved to Jebel Ali or Khalifa Port, shipped to Latakia or Tartus, and from the port goes by road to Aleppo. Machines larger than a standard container may need a flat rack, which the team decides once it has the dimensions.
Air freight from Sharjah to Syria
Air freight from Sharjah to Syria flies from Sharjah or Dubai airport to Damascus International Airport (Aleppo also has an international airport) and usually takes a few days door to door, clearance included. It is the answer when a workshop in Aleppo has stopped waiting for one part: a gear, a welder control board, a cutting head, lathe inserts, or papers that need an urgent signature.

- Price is based on actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
- Example: a spare-parts box of 60 × 40 × 40 cm has a volumetric weight of 16 kg; if it actually weighs 22 kg, it is charged at 22 kg.
- Air does not suit machines or furniture; on large volumes the cost is very high.
- Lithium batteries, liquids, oils and perfumes are restricted by air, so cordless tools fly without their batteries or go by road.
Delivery inside Syria: Aleppo and other governorates
After clearance at Nasib the cargo moves to Damascus and from there to the governorates. Most workshop shipments from Sharjah go to Aleppo, with its industrial areas and workshops. Before arrival the team calls the receiver to agree how the cargo will be unloaded: a forklift at the workshop, a truck with a crane for the heaviest machines, or hand unloading for light crates. The wooden skids make forklift work easy and safe.

| Governorates | Usual way in | Delivery notes |
|---|---|---|
| Damascus and Rural Damascus | First stop after the Nasib crossing | Mezzeh, Kafr Souseh, Jaramana, Sahnaya, Qudsaya, Douma; old quarters need a smaller truck |
| Homs and Hama | By road north from Damascus | Common for maintenance and woodwork shops; unloading arranged in advance |
| Aleppo | By road from Damascus via Homs and Hama | The main destination for machinery; forklift or crane depending on weight |
| Latakia and Tartus | By road from Damascus, or directly via the port for sea freight | The coast is humid, so rust protection matters most here |
| Daraa and Sweida | Close to the Nasib crossing | Among the quickest to reach after clearance |
| North-east (Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah, Qamishli) | Longest inland leg | The team confirms delivery arrangements and timing at booking |
In old quarters such as Bab Touma and Al Midan in Damascus, or the old markets of other cities, lanes are narrow and have steps, so the last leg uses a smaller truck and carrying by hand; the team checks access with the receiver before loading. Inland winters are cold and rainy, so closed crates and good covers protect machines during unloading. At delivery the receiver checks the number of crates against the list and inspects the machine before signing.
Shipping prices from Sharjah to Syria
No single price fits every shipment; a small welder and a three-metre lathe are very different jobs. Every shipment is priced on its own: send the details on WhatsApp and you will get the price. Include photos of the machines, rough dimensions and weight, the pickup location and the governorate in Syria, or use the quote page. Ask the team about optional insurance for high-value machines too.
What decides the shipping price?
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Shipping method | Road for mid-size loads, sea is cheaper for a full container, air for small urgent weights |
| Volume and weight | Machines are measured on their skids and weighed; very heavy ones may need special loading equipment |
| Shared load or dedicated truck | A few crates join a shared load; a whole workshop takes its own truck or container |
| Governorate and access | Aleppo and the north-east are further than Damascus and Daraa; crane unloading adds cost |
| Packing | Skids, treated crates and rust protection are charged by the number of machines |
| Documents | Certificate of origin, invoices and any prior approvals the item needs |
Prohibited and restricted items
Not accepted: narcotics, weapons, ammunition and their parts, counterfeit goods and gambling equipment. Requiring prior permits or restricted: drones, satellite and wireless communication devices, and some medicines. For workshops specifically, gas cylinders, chemicals, solvents, flammable paints and fuel inside generators all need checking before booking.
How to ship from Sharjah to Syria, step by step

- The team recommends road, sea or air, tells you the documents your case needs, and sends the price.
- You prepare the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, or a contents list for personal effects.
- We collect from your site, or you bring the machines to the Industrial Area 18 branch.
- Oil and fuel are drained, moving parts locked, surfaces protected and machines bolted to skids.
- Every crate is checked against the list, then loaded and export-cleared.
- You get WhatsApp updates at each border until entry at Nasib and clearance.
- The team agrees unloading with the receiver, delivers to the workshop and the pieces are checked.
Tips for workshop owners before shipping
- Film each machine running before it is prepared; it helps at installation and records its condition.
- Write down serial numbers yourself and match them to the invoice; one wrong digit can delay clearance.
- Make sure the power supply at the new workshop suits your machine (single-phase or three-phase); household power in Syria is 220 V / 50 Hz, as in the UAE.
- Keep manuals and machine keys inside the machine’s own crate.
- Do not hide small tools in machine drawers without listing them; everything in the shipment must be declared.
- Holiday seasons crowd the borders and can add a few days.
Warning: Never ship a machine with oil or fuel inside, even if you are told it is “sealed tight”. A leak on the road damages the machine and other people’s cargo, and can cause trouble at inspection.
Frequently asked questions
How long does shipping from Sharjah to Aleppo take?
By road roughly 8 to 14 days door to door including clearance, with Aleppo usually a day or more after Damascus. By sea roughly 3 to 4 weeks to Latakia or Tartus, then road to Aleppo. All times are approximate.
Do you ship a lathe or heavy machine to Syria?
Yes. Oil is drained, moving parts locked and the machine bolted to a wooden skid. If it is oversized or very heavy, sea freight in a container is usually better, which the team decides from the dimensions and weight.
Do I need a certificate of origin for used machines?
Equipment is usually treated as commercial goods, so a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin are normally needed. The team checks the current rules for your case before booking.
Can a pickup truck ship with the workshop equipment?
Yes, once the team confirms the vehicle can be imported under the current rules. The bed must be empty, and the equipment travels in the truck with its own list.
How are machines unloaded in Aleppo?
Before arrival the team agrees with the receiver on a forklift at the workshop or a crane truck depending on weight. The skids are built to be lifted by forklift easily.
Can cordless tools ship with their batteries?
Batteries, especially lithium, have special transport rules. By road they are separated and declared on the list; by air they are restricted, so tools fly without them.
How do I know where my shipment is?
The team sends a WhatsApp update at each stage: leaving Sharjah, the border crossings, entry into Syria and the delivery appointment.
How much does it cost to ship a machine from Sharjah to Syria?
It depends on dimensions, weight, method and governorate. Send the details on WhatsApp and you will get the price.
