Express Shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt Air Freight for Urgent Parcels, Documents and Goods to Cairo and Every Governorate
Guide summary

Fast air shipping for parcels, documents and urgent goods from your door in Abu Dhabi to Cairo and every Egyptian governorate in about two to five days, from 15 AED per kg.

Express shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt really means air freight: we collect your parcel, documents or urgent goods from your door in Abu Dhabi, weigh and measure them and prepare the paperwork, then they fly from Zayed International Airport to Cairo International Airport (or Borg El Arab for Alexandria shipments), and after customs clearance they are delivered to the receiver in Cairo or any governorate. Most shipments arrive in about two to five days door to door, and prices start from 15 AED per kg on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Furniture and large appliances belong on the truck and ferry or in a container, not on a plane.

When to choose air

  • When the date matters most: official papers, university or embassy documents, prescribed medicine, a spare part that a business is waiting on.
  • When the shipment is light and compact: a carton of clothes, gifts, a phone or laptop in its box, trade samples.
  • When the value is high and the size small, so it is not worth two weeks on the road.
  • Not for furniture, fridges or a house’s worth of cartons; volumetric weight makes them very expensive by air.
  • About 2–5 days, from 15 AED per kg.

How express shipping differs from the other routes to Egypt

There are three ways from Abu Dhabi to Egypt: road and ferry through Saudi Arabia at about 10–18 days, sea containers at several weeks, and air, which cuts all of that down to days. Express shipping is the third, and it is meant for things that cannot wait. We do not recommend it for a home move; for that, our Abu Dhabi to Egypt shipping guide covers moving a whole family and the sea freight from Abu Dhabi to Egypt guide covers containers. Here we deal only with parcels, documents and urgent goods.

What we fly from Abu Dhabi to Egypt

  • Documents: official and attested papers, powers of attorney, certificates, contracts and application files.
  • Personal parcels: clothes, gifts for family, children’s things, books and personal items.
  • Small devices: laptops, tablets, cameras and small appliances in their original boxes.
  • Urgent commercial goods: samples for a client, spare parts for a stopped machine, a short-shipped part of an order that went by sea.
  • Medical items: personal medicine with a prescription in reasonable quantity, and supplies needing approval, which the team confirms before shipping.

Collection from your door in Abu Dhabi

Send us a photo of the parcel with rough dimensions, weight and your address on WhatsApp, and we set a pick-up time. The driver comes in a small closed van, weighs and measures the shipment in front of you and checks the contents before it is sealed, so it does not get stopped at the airport later over a restricted item. If the carton is not fit to fly, we repack it.

We collect across the emirate:

  • Abu Dhabi island: Al Khalidiyah, Al Mushrif, Al Bateen, Al Zahiyah, Tourist Club Area, the Corniche and Electra Street.
  • Al Reem Island, Yas Island, Saadiyat, Al Raha Beach and Masdar City.
  • Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Baniyas, Al Shamkha, Al Shahama and Al Wathba.
  • Mussafah and the industrial areas, and company offices in KIZAD and the free zones.
  • Al Dhafra, Ruwais and Madinat Zayed on request; Al Ain has its own page: shipping from Al Ain to Egypt.

Actual weight vs volumetric weight: how your parcel is priced

Airlines sell space as well as weight. So every parcel gets two numbers: the actual weight on the scale, and the volumetric weight, which is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 6000. You pay on the higher of the two. A small heavy parcel is charged by its weight; a big light one by its size.

Parcel Size (cm) Actual weight Volumetric weight Chargeable weight Starts from
Carton of books 40 × 30 × 30 9 kg 6 kg 9 kg 135 AED
Boxed laptop 50 × 40 × 15 4 kg 5 kg 5 kg 75 AED
Carton of clothes and gifts 60 × 50 × 50 12 kg 25 kg 25 kg 375 AED
Large suitcase 75 × 50 × 30 23 kg 18.75 kg 23 kg 345 AED
Two cartons of trade samples 60 × 40 × 40 each 30 kg together 32 kg together 32 kg 480 AED

Look at the third row: a 12 kg carton of clothes was charged as 25 kg because of its size. To keep volumetric weight down:

  • Use the smallest carton that fits, and never ship a box that is half air.
  • Compress clothes and fabrics in vacuum bags.
  • Take shoes and toys out of bulky retail boxes when the box itself is not needed.
  • Combine small items into one well-packed parcel instead of several loose ones.

What can’t fly: batteries, liquids and perfumes

This is the most common reason air parcels are delayed or sent back from the airport. Dangerous-goods rules apply to cargo just as they apply to passengers, and sometimes more strictly:

  • Lithium batteries: loose batteries and power banks are not accepted in regular cargo. A device with its battery installed, such as a phone or laptop, is usually accepted on conditions: switched off, in a sturdy box, with an undamaged battery.
  • Perfumes: most contain flammable alcohol, so they count as dangerous goods and do not go in a normal parcel. Tell us before packing if they are among your items and we will check whether and how they can be sent.
  • Liquids: oils, cleaners and liquid cosmetics are restricted; anything accepted needs tight closure and double packing against leaks.
  • Aerosols and pressurised cans: air fresheners, hairspray and insect sprays are usually refused.
  • Flammables: lighters, matches, paints and gas.
  • Strong magnets and some devices containing mercury.

On top of airline rules come Egypt’s own restrictions: narcotics, weapons and ammunition, counterfeit goods and gambling equipment are prohibited, while drones, radio and satellite transmitters, some medicines and large quantities of mobile phones need prior permits or are restricted. Food, cosmetics and many electrical products need extra approvals when shipped in commercial quantities.

Express shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt - preparing air shipments
Preparing urgent air shipments to Egypt

Warning: Do not slip a power bank, perfume or lighter into a carton of clothes hoping it will pass. Air cargo screening picks them up on X-ray, and the whole parcel can be pulled from the flight and delayed for days, not just the item.

Packing that suits air freight

  • Double-wall cartons for parcels over 10 kg, with wide tape on every edge.
  • Inner filling so nothing moves; parcels are built onto aircraft pallets and lifted more than once.
  • Devices in their original box if you have it, or in a carton with thick padding on every side.
  • Documents in a stiff, water-resistant envelope; never fold original certificates.
  • Receiver’s name, Egyptian phone number and address clearly on the parcel, with a copy inside.

Documents for express shipping to Egypt

Personal parcels and documents

  • Copy of the sender’s passport or Emirates ID.
  • A simple contents list with the approximate value of each item.
  • Receiver’s name as on their ID card, with phone number and address in Egypt.

Commercial goods

  • ACID number: Egypt’s advance cargo registration on the NAFEZA platform covers air freight too, and the Egyptian importer registers it before shipping. Small express shipments within the weight and value limits set by Egyptian customs may be exempt; the team confirms your case before booking.
  • Commercial invoice and packing list.
  • Certificate of origin for UAE-origin goods, for a possible customs-duty exemption under the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, while the 14% VAT and other fees still apply.
  • Approvals for food, medicines, cosmetics and electrical products where needed.

Clearance at Cairo airport

The shipment lands at Cairo International Airport and moves to the cargo village, where it goes through these steps:

  1. Registration against the air waybill and a check of piece count and weight.
  2. X-ray screening; a parcel may be opened if the contents do not match the list.
  3. Duty assessment: documents and used personal items in reasonable quantity usually pass easily, while new items, devices and commercial quantities carry duty and tax according to value.
  4. Release and hand-over to the delivery team inside Egypt.

Most delays here come from an incomplete contents list or an unrealistic value. Declare the real value of new items; an obviously low value invites manual assessment and holds the parcel longer than it saves. You get a WhatsApp update on landing and on release.

Delivery to every governorate in Egypt

After release, Greater Cairo shipments go out in small delivery vans: Nasr City, Heliopolis, Maadi, New Cairo and the Fifth Settlement, Shubra and Mokattam; Dokki, Mohandessin, Haram and Faisal in Giza; and 6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, Obour and 10th of Ramadan. Shipments for other governorates leave by road from Cairo, or from Borg El Arab for Alexandria: Smouha, Sidi Gaber, Miami and Agami; then Mansoura, Tanta, Zagazig, Damanhour and Kafr El Sheikh; the Canal cities of Ismailia, Port Said, Suez and Damietta; Hurghada and Safaga; and Minya, Beni Suef, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.

Area in Egypt Air (express) Road and ferry Sea container
Cairo and Giza 2–5 days 10–15 days 3–5 weeks
6th of October and Sheikh Zayed 2–5 days 10–15 days 3–5 weeks
Alexandria 2–5 days (Borg El Arab) 12–17 days 4–6 weeks
Delta (Mansoura, Tanta, Zagazig) 3–5 days 12–17 days 4–6 weeks
Canal cities 3–5 days 12–17 days 3–5 weeks
Red Sea (Hurghada, Safaga) 3–5 days often quicker than other cities 3–5 weeks
Upper Egypt (Assiut, Sohag, Luxor, Aswan) 3–6 days 12–18 days 4–6 weeks

Times are approximate and include clearance; they depend on flight schedules, public holidays in both countries and complete paperwork.

Express shipping prices from Abu Dhabi to Egypt start from

Service Starts from Note
Air freight for parcels and goods 15 AED per kg actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher
Documents and envelopes Send the details on WhatsApp and get the price by weight and city
Parcels and belongings by road and ferry Send the details on WhatsApp and get the price for bigger, less urgent loads
20 ft container 4,050 AED port to port
40 ft container 6,750 AED port to port

The final price depends on volume, weight, city, packing and documents; any customs duties in Egypt are charged separately.

What affects the air freight price?

  • Chargeable weight, the higher of actual and volumetric.
  • The city in Egypt: Greater Cairo is not the same as Upper Egypt or the coast.
  • The type of goods: devices and items needing approvals differ from clothes.
  • Packing: repacking, or crates for fragile pieces.
  • Shipment value and the duties expected on it.
  • Collection from outside Abu Dhabi city, such as Ruwais or Madinat Zayed.

When road and ferry beats air

The simple rule: the bigger the volume, the weaker the case for flying. Take ten cartons of 60 × 50 × 50 cm at 15 kg each. Their actual weight is 150 kg, but their volumetric weight is 250 kg, so by air they start from 3,750 AED. The same cartons on a shared truck are priced by their volume, not by volumetric weight, and reach Cairo in about 10–15 days for far less.

On the road route, shipments are consolidated at the warehouse and the truck leaves the UAE through Al Ghuwaifat – Al Batha, crossing Saudi Arabia in customs transit with a sealed load that is not cleared there, usually to Duba port, sometimes Jeddah, or through Jordan to Aqaba. The whole truck then boards the ferry and comes off at Safaga, Hurghada or Nuweiba, where inspection and clearance take place, before it unloads at the Egypt warehouse and each customer’s goods go out on smaller vehicles. The stops on the Saudi leg are explained in our Abu Dhabi to Saudi Arabia guide.

Express shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt - the economy road option
Economy road-and-ferry option from Abu Dhabi to Egypt
  • Air: documents, parcels up to a few dozen kilograms, anything urgent.
  • Road and ferry: lots of cartons, large appliances, one or two rooms of furniture.

  • A smart mix: furniture by road or sea, papers and essentials by air so they arrive ahead of you.

How to send express shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt

  1. Send a photo of the parcel, its dimensions, rough weight and the delivery city in Egypt on WhatsApp +971524669941.
  2. We work out the chargeable weight, send the price and flag anything that cannot fly.
  3. The driver comes to your Abu Dhabi address, weighs, measures, checks contents and repacks if needed.
  4. Papers are prepared and the shipment is booked on the next flight to Cairo or Borg El Arab.
  5. You get WhatsApp updates at dispatch, on landing and at customs release.
  6. Delivery to the receiver, followed by a confirmation to you.

Tips to avoid delays and extra cost

  • Ask for the price after the real measurement, not the weight you expect; size is the usual surprise.
  • Give a working Egyptian phone number for the receiver; the driver calls before arriving, and a switched-off number delays delivery.
  • If papers are tied to an embassy or university date, send them at least a week ahead to allow for holidays.
  • Never send cash or gold in parcels.
  • For new devices, keep the invoice and put a copy in the parcel; it makes assessment easier.
  • Ask the team about optional insurance for high-value parcels.

If collection is from Sharjah instead, details are in the Sharjah to Egypt guide, and to compare every emirate see the UAE to Egypt shipping guide.

FAQ: express shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt

How long does express shipping take from Abu Dhabi to Cairo?

About two to five days door to door including clearance, sometimes a day more for Upper Egypt and distant governorates or around public holidays.

How is an air parcel priced?

On the higher of actual and volumetric weight, where volumetric weight = L × W × H in cm ÷ 6000. A 60 × 50 × 50 cm carton counts as 25 kg even if it weighs 12 kg. Prices start from 15 AED per kg.

Can I send perfume by air to Egypt?

Most perfumes contain flammable alcohol, so they are treated as dangerous goods and do not travel in a normal parcel. Tell the team before packing and we will check whether and how they can go.

Can I send a phone or laptop?

Usually yes, if the battery is inside the device, it is switched off and well packed. Power banks and loose batteries are not accepted. A new device may attract duty and tax in Egypt according to its value.

Do you deliver outside Cairo?

Yes, to every governorate: Alexandria via Borg El Arab or by road from Cairo, and the Delta, Canal cities, Upper Egypt and the Red Sea by road delivery after release.

Does a commercial air shipment need an ACID number?

Yes. Advance registration on NAFEZA covers commercial air freight and is done by the Egyptian importer before shipping; small express shipments within limits set by Egyptian customs may be exempt. The team confirms your case before booking.

When should I choose road over air?

When the shipment is many cartons, large appliances or furniture and time is not tight. Volumetric weight makes these very expensive by air, while road and ferry reaches Cairo in about 10–15 days.

How do I know my parcel has arrived?

The team sends you a WhatsApp update at dispatch, on landing in Egypt, at release, and a confirmation once the receiver has it.

Parcel ready to go?

Send a photo of the parcel, its size, weight and delivery city, and we will work out the chargeable weight and price and arrange collection from your door in Abu Dhabi.
