If you are looking for a shipping company from UAE to Egypt to move your furniture, personal effects or goods from any emirate to a front door in Cairo, Alexandria or Upper Egypt, this guide explains the route as it actually runs. At Al Basmah International Shipping we collect from Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi or any other emirate, pack the shipment and prepare its papers, then agree with you on one of three ways. The road-and-ferry route is the usual one for furniture and household goods: the truck crosses Saudi Arabia in transit to a Red Sea port and boards a ferry to Safaga, Hurghada or Nuweiba. Sea freight sends containers to Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, Port Said or Damietta. Air freight flies urgent, light shipments to Cairo. Most road shipments reach Cairo and Giza in about 10 to 15 days including clearance, and air shipments in about 2 to 5 days.

Before you ship to Egypt
- Trucks do not drive into Egypt by land. They cross Saudi Arabia in transit, board a ferry at Duba or Aqaba, and clearance happens at the Egyptian arrival port.
- Used personal items in reasonable quantities usually get customs facilitation; new items or commercial quantities pay duty and Egypt’s 14% VAT.
- Commercial cargo must be pre-registered by the Egyptian importer on the NAFEZA platform with an ACID number before it leaves the UAE.
- Egypt’s car import rules are strict and change; we check the car and its owner first, then book.
- Air does not suit furniture and is charged on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher.
- The team sends you a WhatsApp update at loading, at the border, at ferry boarding, after clearance and before delivery.

What do we ship from the UAE to Egypt?
We ship what a returning resident, a family moving part of its home, or a trader sending stock actually needs: a full apartment or a single room, cartons of personal belongings, household appliances, cars once their eligibility is confirmed, and commercial goods with complete papers. Small shipments are as welcome as large ones; many of our customers send five or ten cartons inside a shared truck and never need a whole vehicle.
- Household furniture: bedrooms, majlis and living-room sets, dining tables, children’s rooms and bookcases, dismantled, packed and numbered, with reassembly on request.
- Personal effects: clothes, books, kitchenware, rugs and bedding in sized, numbered cartons.
- Appliances: fridges, washing machines, TVs and air conditioners, each packed to suit the item.
- Small shipments and cartons: one carton or a few, added to a shared truck bound for Egypt.
- Commercial goods: clothing, homeware, spare parts and general cargo, once the importer in Egypt is registered.
- Cars: by container or ro-ro vessel after a check of Egypt’s current import rules.
- Office and shop furniture: desks, chairs, shelving and display units.
What we do not ship is what Egypt bans or restricts without a permit; the list is in the prohibited-items section below. If you are unsure about an item, send a photo on WhatsApp before packing so it is not discovered at the arrival port.
Where do we collect in the UAE?
We collect from all seven emirates and Al Ain, from apartments, villas, warehouses and free zones, and consolidate everything at our warehouse before loading. Each emirate has its own guide; these are the most common collection points:
- Dubai: Deira, Al Qusais, Al Nahda, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah, Bur Dubai, Al Barsha and Jebel Ali Free Zone — see shipping company from Dubai to Egypt.
- Sharjah: Al Taawun, Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Al Qasimia and the industrial areas — see Sharjah to Egypt shipping.
- Abu Dhabi: Musaffah, Khalifa City, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, Al Reem and Khalifa Port free zone — in the Abu Dhabi to Egypt guide.
- Al Ain: Al Jimi, Al Muwaiji and the industrial area — Al Ain to Egypt shipping.
- Ajman: Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya and Al Jurf — Ajman to Egypt shipping.
- Ras Al Khaimah: Al Nakheel, Al Dhait and the free zone — Ras Al Khaimah to Egypt shipping.
- Umm Al Quwain: Al Salama and Al Raas — Umm Al Quwain to Egypt shipping.
- Fujairah: the city centre, Dibba and nearby Khor Fakkan — Fujairah to Egypt shipping.
Distance does not change the method: a shipment from Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah is consolidated at the warehouse just like one from Deira, then leaves with the rest of the load towards Al Ghuwaifat. The only difference may be the local collection cost when the quantity is very small and the address far away.
How does a road shipment reach Egypt? The route and the ferry, step by step
Road freight from the UAE to Egypt is not a purely overland trip. It is a truck journey across Saudi Arabia that ends with a Red Sea crossing on a ferry. There is no road by which a truck enters Egypt from the east without that sea leg, so transit is counted from loading to delivery, including the wait for the ferry and clearance at the arrival port. The stages usually run like this:
- Consolidation at the warehouse: cartons and furniture arrive, the contents list is checked and every package is numbered.
- Leaving the UAE: the truck exits at Al Ghuwaifat and enters Saudi Arabia at Al Batha.
- Saudi transit: the load is sealed and declared as transit, so it is not cleared into Saudi Arabia and is opened only on an official request.
- Red Sea port: usually Duba, sometimes Jeddah, or through Jordan to Aqaba.
- The ferry: the whole truck boards a ro-ro ferry and comes off at Safaga, Hurghada or Nuweiba.
- Inspection and clearance: at the Egyptian arrival port the shipment is inspected, the papers are checked and any charges are paid.
- Egypt warehouse: the truck heads to the warehouse, where the load is unloaded and sorted by governorate.
- Local distribution: each shipment goes out on a smaller vehicle to its address, and we call you before arrival to set a time.

A shared truck leaves once it is full, so your shipment may wait a few days at the warehouse before departure; we tell you the expected loading date before you hand over your goods. A dedicated truck leaves on the date you choose, which suits anyone moving a whole home who does not want their belongings mixed with others.
From experience: most delays on this route do not happen on the highway but at the ferry and in the clearance yard. A clear contents list and a valid passport copy save more days than any faster truck.
Sea freight by container from the UAE to Egypt
Sea freight is the best fit for a full villa, a car or a large commercial consignment. The container leaves Jebel Ali, Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, or Fujairah and Khor Fakkan on the east coast, and arrives at Ain Sokhna via the Red Sea, or passes through the Suez Canal to Alexandria, Port Said or Damietta. Sailing takes roughly two to three weeks, plus port handling and clearance.
- 20 ft container: usually enough for a two- or three-bedroom apartment, or one car with some belongings.
- 40 ft container: for a villa or a large apartment, or two cars in some cases.
- 40 ft high cube: extra height for tall furniture and wardrobes.
- Loading at your door: a full container can come to your home or warehouse, be loaded there and sealed.

The arrival port follows your address: Sokhna is closest to Cairo and Giza, Alexandria and Dekheila serve the north coast and the western Delta, and Damietta and Port Said serve the eastern Delta and the Canal cities. If you are shipping from the capital, the guide to sea freight from Abu Dhabi to Egypt covers Khalifa Port and containers in detail.
Air freight from the UAE to Egypt
Air freight is the fastest option and suits documents, clothes, gifts, small items and urgent spare parts. Shipments leave Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah airport for Cairo International Airport, or Borg El Arab for customers in Alexandria, and usually arrive in about 2 to 5 days door to door including clearance.

The price is based on actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher. Volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. A 60 × 50 × 50 cm carton has a volumetric weight of 25 kg even if it actually weighs only 12 kg, which is why we always suggest cartons sized to their contents with no empty space.
- Air does not suit furniture or large appliances; on large volumes it costs far more than road or sea.
- Loose lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted on aircraft and need confirmation before acceptance.
- For a fast air service from the capital, see the guide to express shipping from Abu Dhabi to Egypt.
Road + ferry vs sea vs air: a comparison
No route is best in every case. Volume, urgency and the type of goods decide, and this table sums up the differences:
| Factor | Road + ferry | Sea containers | Air |
|---|---|---|---|
| Approx. time to Cairo | 10–15 days | 2–3 weeks sailing + handling and clearance | 2–5 days |
| Best for | Furniture, personal effects, mixed loads | Full homes, cars, commercial goods | Documents, small and urgent parcels |
| Minimum | One carton in a shared truck | One 20 ft container | One kilogram |
| Arrival point | Safaga, Hurghada or Nuweiba | Sokhna, Alexandria, Port Said or Damietta | Cairo or Borg El Arab airport |
| Delivery | Door to door | Port or door, as agreed | Door to door |
| Relative cost | Medium | Lowest for large volumes | Highest per kilogram |

Car shipping from the UAE to Egypt
Shipping a car to Egypt starts with one question before any booking: do Egypt’s current import conditions apply to this car and to its owner? Egypt has strict rules on importing personal cars, covering the age of the car, who is allowed to import and how payment is made, and those rules change from time to time. So we never book a car until the team has checked its details and the owner’s details against the rules in force, and we tell you the result plainly.

- By container: the car is secured inside a 20 ft or 40 ft container, and some belongings can travel with it where customs allow.
- By ro-ro vessel: the car is driven onto the ship and lashed down, a common method for single cars.
- Local transport: we collect the car from your home in the UAE on an enclosed carrier to the port.
- Basic papers: the ownership card, the owner’s passport and the UAE export or deregistration certificate, then whatever Egyptian customs require for the owner’s situation.
Packing furniture and belongings for Egypt
A shipment to Egypt travels a long way and moves between a truck, a ferry, a clearance yard and a delivery vehicle; every transfer is a chance for a scratch or a break if the packing is weak. Summers in Upper Egypt are very hot and the Alexandria coast is humid, so we pack with materials that handle heat and keep moisture out:
- Beds, wardrobes and tables dismantled, parts numbered and screws bagged with each piece.
- Bubble wrap for glossy surfaces, corner boards for edges and moving blankets for wood.
- Wooden crates for glass, marble, antiques and valuable pieces.
- Appliances in their original boxes where available, or double-wrapped with doors secured.
- Fridges emptied and dried two days before loading; washing machines fully drained.
- Moisture-absorbing sachets inside cartons of clothes, books and electronics.
- The recipient’s name and governorate on every carton, with a number that matches the contents list.
Egyptian customs and required documents
Customs decides how fast your shipment arrives more than anything else. What is needed depends on whether you are sending used personal effects, commercial goods or a car.
Personal effects and used furniture
- A copy of the recipient’s or owner’s passport.
- A detailed contents list in Arabic or English, with the number of cartons and what each holds.
- For someone returning to live in Egypt, proof that residence abroad has ended helps with facilitation.
Used items in reasonable personal quantities usually receive customs facilitation, while new appliances in their boxes or repeated items in commercial quantities are dutiable. No one can promise you a full exemption; the final decision belongs to the customs officer after inspection, and our job is to make sure the papers arrive complete and in order.
Commercial shipments: NAFEZA and the ACID number
Every commercial shipment bound for Egypt must be pre-registered by the Egyptian importer on the NAFEZA platform to obtain an ACID number before the goods are shipped from the UAE, not after they arrive. The shipment also needs:
- A commercial invoice showing the ACID number and the exporter’s and importer’s details.
- A packing list with weights, volumes and number of packages.
- A certificate of origin; UAE-origin goods with a certificate of origin can benefit from the customs-duty exemption under the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
- Extra approvals for food, medicines, cosmetics and many electrical products.
A duty exemption is not an exemption from everything: Egypt’s 14% VAT applies to imports, along with other fees depending on the goods.
Cars
The car documents are set after the eligibility check described above, because what is required from an owner living abroad may differ from others. We send you the exact list for your case on WhatsApp after the review.
Prohibited and restricted items for Egypt
- Prohibited: narcotics, weapons and ammunition, counterfeit goods, gambling equipment, and used tyres for trade.
- Need a prior permit or restricted: drones, radio and satellite transmitters, some medicines, and mobile phones in large quantities.
- Restricted by air: loose lithium batteries, liquids, perfumes and flammable materials.
Warning: A single prohibited item in one carton can hold the whole shipment at the arrival port, including other customers’ goods in a shared truck. If you are unsure about an item, ask before packing.

What decides the cost of shipping to Egypt?
- Volume in cubic metres for road and sea, and actual or volumetric weight for air.
- Method: shared or dedicated truck, full container, or air.
- Governorate: delivering to Aswan is not the same as delivering within Cairo.
- Packing: wooden crates, dismantling and reassembly add to the cost.
- Type of shipment: used personal effects or dutiable commercial goods.
- Collection point: an upper floor without a lift or a remote area.
- Documents: missing papers mean extra storage days at the port, a cost you can avoid.
Delivery inside Egypt: from the port to your door
After clearance at Safaga, Hurghada or Nuweiba, the truck goes to the warehouse in Egypt, where shipments are unloaded and sorted by governorate, then each one leaves on a smaller vehicle to its address. We deliver to every governorate in Egypt; these are among the areas we deliver to most:

- Cairo: Nasr City, Heliopolis, Maadi, New Cairo and the Fifth Settlement, Shubra and Mokattam.
- Giza: Dokki, Mohandessin, Haram, Faisal, 6th of October and Sheikh Zayed.
- East of Cairo: Obour and 10th of Ramadan.
- Alexandria: Smouha, Sidi Gaber, Miami, Agami and Borg El Arab.
- The Delta: Mansoura, Tanta, Zagazig, Damanhour, Kafr El Sheikh and Damietta.
- The Canal: Ismailia, Port Said and Suez.
- The Red Sea: Hurghada and Safaga.
- Upper Egypt: Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.
Before delivery the driver calls to set a time, and you receive your belongings and check them against the numbered contents list. If you asked for assembly, beds and wardrobes are put back together on site.
