Most people looking for a shipping company from Ajman to Egypt do not have a large shipment: two suitcases and a gift carton for the family, the contents of a studio flat before the lease ends, or a parcel of clothes and toys for the children before Eid. Al Basmah International Shipping collects these from your home in Ajman, adds them to a shared truck that travels by road and then by ferry to Egypt, and delivers to the flat door in Faisal, Haram, Dokki and the rest of Giza, as well as to any other governorate. If the parcel is urgent and light, air freight gets it there in days.

This guide focuses on what a worker, an employee or a small family needs to know: what may go in a carton and what causes trouble at inspection, how to pack and label every parcel, and how delivery works in Giza’s apartment blocks.
Before you seal the carton
- Write a list of what is in the carton before closing it and keep a photo; customs will ask for it.
- Pack no more than your own used phone; new phones in quantity are treated as goods and need permits.
- Medicines and perfumes: ask the team first, and perfumes are not accepted by air.
- Write the receiver’s name as on their ID card, plus governorate, district and Egyptian number, on two sides of the carton.
- Approximate time to Giza by road and ferry: 10–15 days; by air: 2–5 days.
- Air freight starts from 15 AED per kg; for parcels and small flats, send the details on WhatsApp and get your price.

What do Ajman residents usually ship to Egypt?
Ajman is a small emirate, and many of its residents live in small flats or shared accommodation. So the requests we get from Ajman are mostly small and medium-sized rather than full house moves:
- Packed suitcases that do not fit the airline allowance, or excess baggage.
- Gift cartons for the family: clothes, shoes, children’s toys, kitchenware, packaged chocolate and dates.
- Seasonal parcels before Ramadan, Eid and the start of the school year.
- Contents of a studio or one-bedroom flat: bed, wardrobe, small fridge, washing machine, TV, mattresses.
- The belongings of a worker whose contract has ended and who is going home for good, packed in several cartons.
- Used home appliances and personal work tools, such as a carpenter’s or electrician’s kit.
Moving a small flat from Ajman
A studio or one-bedroom flat in Ajman usually comes to roughly 3 to 6 cubic metres after packing, depending on the appliances. That volume does not justify a whole truck, so it travels on a shared truck where you pay only for your metres. The team estimates the volume from photos of the rooms or a list of items, then confirms it after measuring at the warehouse.
| Type of home | Usual contents | Approx. volume |
|---|---|---|
| Bed space in shared housing | Two suitcases and 3–4 cartons | Under 1 m³ |
| Studio | Bed, small wardrobe, small fridge, TV, cartons | 3–4 m³ |
| One-bedroom flat | Bedroom set, sofa, washing machine, fridge, kitchenware | 5–6 m³ |
| Two-bedroom flat | Two bedrooms, living room, full appliances | 8–12 m³ |

A tip from many past shipments: some things are cheaper to sell in Ajman than to ship. A cheap wooden wardrobe takes a full cubic metre and may not survive being taken apart and rebuilt, whereas a good fridge, washing machine, TV and mattresses are usually worth shipping.
Family parcels and gift cartons
The family parcel is what leaves Ajman for Egypt most often. It looks simple, but most inspection problems come from it: a carton with ten bottles of perfume, five new phones “as gifts for relatives”, or medicines without a prescription. Customs sees the quantity, not the intention, and repeated quantities of the same item are treated as trade goods that carry duty and may need a permit.

What may and may not go in the carton
| Item | In practice | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Clothes, shoes and toys | Allowed | Reasonable personal quantities; lots of new items may be charged duty |
| Your own used phone | Allowed | Better carried with you |
| New phones in quantity | Restricted | Treated as goods; prior permits needed |
| Medicines | Some restricted | Do not pack before asking the team |
| Perfumes | Restricted by air | By road, a few well-sealed personal bottles after asking the team |
| Packaged chocolate, dates and sweets | Small quantity allowed | Sealed and long-life; trade quantities need approvals |
| Fresh or cooked food | Not suitable | The journey takes many days |
| Pressurised sprays, gas, lighters | Prohibited | Flammable |
| Cash, jewellery, original official documents | Do not ship | Carry them with you |
Warning: If a restricted item is found in one carton on a shared truck, other people’s cartons may be held with it until the matter is settled. Ask before you seal; a WhatsApp question is quicker than solving a problem at the port.
How to pack suitcases and cartons
- Use new double-wall cartons; old supermarket boxes collapse when stacked.
- Keep each carton to 25–30 kg so a worker can carry it without dropping it.
- Heavy items at the bottom, light ones on top, and fill gaps with clothes or paper.
- Glassware: wrap each piece on its own and mark the carton “fragile”.
- Wrap fabric suitcases fully in stretch film so they do not tear or get dirty, and leave the key or lock code for inspection.
- Appliances in their original box if you have it; otherwise bubble wrap and heavy cardboard on every side.
- Add a silica bag or a sealed plastic bag for clothes, since humidity on the way and on arrival spoils fabric.
How to label every parcel
A third of delivery problems come from a carton without clear details. Write with a thick marker on two opposite sides, or tape a printed sheet under clear tape:
- The receiver’s full name exactly as on the Egyptian national ID card.
- The governorate in large letters: Giza, Cairo, Sharqia and so on.
- District, street, building number and floor, e.g. Giza – Faisal – … Street – Building … – 4th floor.
- An Egyptian phone number the receiver answers, plus a second number.
- The carton number out of the total: 1 of 6, 2 of 6 and so on, so a missing piece is noticed.
Photograph each carton open before sealing it, then closed with the label on. Those photos are your list and your reference if you need to check anything on delivery.

The route from Ajman to Egypt
Ajman parcels are consolidated at the warehouse and stowed with other shipments bound for Egypt. The usual route is road plus sea; the truck never drives straight into Egypt:
- Exit from the UAE through Al Ghuwaifat to the Saudi border post at Al Batha.
- Crossing Saudi Arabia in transit with a sealed load, not cleared inside the Kingdom; this road is covered in the Ajman to Saudi Arabia guide.
- Arrival at Duba port in most cases, sometimes Jeddah, or Aqaba via Jordan.
- The whole truck boards a ro-ro ferry across the Red Sea to Safaga, Hurghada or Nuweiba.
- Inspection and customs clearance at the arrival port.
- Unloading at the warehouse in Egypt, then distribution to each governorate by smaller vehicles.
At each stage the team sends you a WhatsApp update. For the full picture of routes from the UAE to Egypt, see the main UAE to Egypt shipping guide.

Delivery to the flat door in Giza
Giza is one of the most frequent destinations for Ajman parcels, especially Faisal and Haram. Their side streets are narrow and many buildings are tall with no lift, so a large truck cannot get in. After clearance the shipment reaches the warehouse, then the Giza parcels go out on a small truck with one or more workers who carry them up to the right floor.
Faisal and Haram
Close-packed buildings on side streets; give the nearest station or landmark on the main road.
Dokki and Mohandessin
Wider streets and buildings usually with lifts, sometimes with parking limits outside.
6th of October and Sheikh Zayed
Districts and neighbourhood units; write the district, unit and building numbers.

- The driver calls the receiver on the Egyptian number before arriving to agree a time.
- The receiver shows their ID card, and the name is matched with the cartons.
- The receiver counts the cartons against the “1 of 6” numbers before signing.
- If the flat is on a high floor without a lift, mention it when booking.
- Delivery is also available to any other governorate: Cairo, Alexandria, the Delta, the Canal cities and Upper Egypt.
Air freight from Ajman to Egypt
Ajman has no airport, so air parcels leave from nearby Sharjah airport or from Dubai to Cairo International Airport, or Borg El Arab for Alexandria. It usually takes 2–5 days door to door including clearance. Air suits a light, urgent parcel: Eid clothes, papers, a gift for an occasion coming up soon.
- Price starts from 15 AED per kg, on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher.
- Volumetric weight: L × W × H in cm ÷ 6000. A 70×45×30 cm suitcase counts as 15.75 kg.
- Large, light suitcases are charged by volume, so compress the clothes and choose a carton that fits the contents.
- Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted by air.

If the shipment grows into a whole home, a sea container is another option: 20 or 40 ft loaded at your door, leaving from Jebel Ali or Khor Fakkan for Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, Port Said or Damietta, about 2–3 weeks sailing plus port handling and clearance.
Documents you need
Parcels and personal effects
- Passport copy.
- A detailed contents list in Arabic or English for each carton and suitcase.
- For someone returning to Egypt for good, proof that UAE residence has ended helps with facilitation.
- Used items in reasonable quantities usually get facilitation; new items or trade quantities are dutiable. We do not promise full exemption.
Trade goods
If the quantity is commercial, the importer in Egypt must register it on the NAFEZA platform and obtain an ACID number before shipping, with a commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. UAE-origin goods may be exempt from customs duty under the Arab free-trade area, but 14% VAT still applies. Food, medicines, cosmetics and many electrical products need extra approvals.
Cars
Egypt’s rules on importing personal cars are strict and change, so the team first checks that the car and its owner meet the current conditions, and only then books it. Cars usually go by container or ro-ro by sea.
Prohibited and restricted items
- Prohibited: narcotics, weapons and ammunition, counterfeit goods, gambling equipment, used tyres for trade.
- Prior permit needed or restricted: drones, radio and satellite transmitters, some medicines, mobile phones in large quantities.
- Not shipped because of the hazard: gas, lighters, pressurised sprays, flammable materials.

What pushes the price up or down?
- The number and size of cartons after packing; a half-empty carton pays for its air.
- The governorate and distance from the warehouse, and the floor and lift on delivery.
- The method: road and ferry is cheaper, air is faster and costs more.
- Packing, if you want the team to do it for you.
- The contents: new items and repeated quantities may carry customs duty in Egypt.
- Optional insurance: ask the team about the options.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Writing a nickname instead of the name on the ID card; delivery requires the name to match.
- An Egyptian number that is switched off or never answered; give two numbers.
- One very heavy carton instead of two medium ones.
- Sending gifts in trade quantities without invoices.
- Forgetting the contents list, which makes inspection take longer.
