If you need a safe place for your furniture for a few weeks or several months, Al Basmah International Shipping collects it from your home or office in any emirate, dismantles and wraps it in several layers, sends you a photo inventory on WhatsApp, and then stacks it in clean, ventilated warehouses on steel racks and raised pallets. You pay monthly rent based on the space your things take up, you can take out a single item or the whole house whenever you need, and we deliver to any address in the UAE or ship it abroad.

This guide is for people facing the storage decision for the first time: what happens to your furniture from the moment the crew knocks until it comes back, roughly what you will pay, how short-term and long-term storage differ, and what should never go into a warehouse in the first place.
Your storage plan
- Send photos of your rooms or start a WhatsApp video call so we can estimate the volume.
- Collection from any emirate: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Al Ain.
- Dismantling, multi-layer wrapping and a photo inventory sent to you on WhatsApp.
- Steel racks and raised pallets in ventilated warehouses with regular pest control.
- Monthly rent starts from AED 135 for a small space, with partial or full retrieval on request.
What does furniture storage with Al Basmah include?
This is more than renting a space. We handle the whole route: collection, packing, recording, storage and return. Many customers find that the hard part of storage is not the warehouse itself but carrying everything out of the flat, loading the truck and arranging the load so any piece can be pulled out later without unstacking a whole row. That is why we arrange your things from day one around what you will need first.
Doorstep collection
A crew and a closed truck come to your address in any emirate, whether it is a flat, a villa or an office.
Dismantling and wrapping
Beds, wardrobes and large tables are taken apart and each piece is wrapped to suit its material, with screws bagged and numbered.
Photo inventory on WhatsApp
A list of every box and item with photos, kept on your phone as your reference for retrieval.
Ventilated warehouses
Steel racks and raised pallets, protection from moisture and dust, and regular pest control.
Partial retrieval
Only need the fridge or the winter clothes? We take out just those and deliver them.
Shipping abroad later
Your furniture can stay in storage until your new home abroad is ready, then go by road, sea or air.
Furniture storage in every emirate: where do we collect?
We collect from all seven emirates and from Al Ain, and the team schedules collection according to distance and volume. Each emirate has its own guide explaining the type of housing there and what to prepare before collection day, so pick yours from the table:
| Emirate | Common collection areas | Dedicated guide |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai | Dubai Marina, JLT, Business Bay, Al Barsha, Deira, Mirdif | Furniture storage in Dubai |
| Abu Dhabi | Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Reem Island, Al Shamkha, Al Mushrif | Furniture storage in Abu Dhabi |
| Sharjah | Al Taawun, Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Al Khan, Muwaileh | Furniture storage in Sharjah |
| Ajman | Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya, Al Jurf, Al Yasmeen | Furniture storage in Ajman |
| Ras Al Khaimah | Al Nakheel, Al Dhait, Khuzam, Al Marjan Island | Furniture storage in Ras Al Khaimah |
| Fujairah | Al Faseel, Merashid, Sakamkam, Dibba Al Fujairah | Furniture storage in Fujairah |
| Umm Al Quwain | Al Salamah, Al Raudah, Al Riqqa, Al Humrah | Furniture storage in Umm Al Quwain |
| Al Ain | Al Jimi, Al Towayya, Al Maqam, Hili | Furniture storage in Al Ain |
Our two branches for contact and paperwork are in Dubai (Deira, Port Saeed Street) and Sharjah (Industrial Area 18). The warehouses are in the UAE, and the team arranges collection from any emirate without you having to come in.
Who needs furniture storage in the UAE?
Most storage requests we receive come from a temporary situation: one lease ended before the next began, a long trip, or a home under renovation. These are the cases we see most:
- Between homes: you hand over the old flat on the 30th and the new one is ready two weeks later. Short-term storage bridges the gap instead of paying a full extra month of rent.
- Renovation or maintenance: painting, new flooring, roof insulation. Moving the furniture out protects it from dust and paint and lets the contractor work faster.
- Long travel: an extended summer holiday, a work posting of several months, or study abroad. Why pay for a whole flat just to guard the sofa?
- Leaving the UAE: you want to end the lease now but have not decided whether to ship or sell the furniture. Store it until you know.
- Shop and office stock: furniture from an office that has closed for a while, seasonal exhibition stock, or files with no room in the new office.
- Students: a university student going home for the summer with a bed, a desk and a small fridge. A small space is enough and saves buying everything again.
Some people store only part of the home: a family moving from a villa to a smaller flat that keeps the majlis furniture until they buy a house, or someone getting married and combining two households. In those cases we move part of the load to the new home and store the rest on the same day; see our guide to home moving in the UAE.
How to estimate the space your furniture needs
Most people either overestimate or underestimate their volume, because a tidy home hides a lot inside cupboards. The number of rooms alone is not enough; what matters is what sits inside the wardrobes, the storeroom and on the balcony. A two-bedroom flat where a family has lived for years fills far more boxes than a two-bedroom flat rented by a single professional.
- Count the large pieces: beds, wardrobes, sofas, dining table, fridge, washing machine. These set most of the space.
- Estimate the boxes: open the wardrobe, kitchen cupboards and storeroom and photograph them open; photos reveal what a quick walk-through misses.
- Leave out what you will not need: there is no point paying monthly rent on old furniture you plan to get rid of.
- Remember dismantling: a dismantled bed takes a quarter of its assembled footprint, and a wardrobe becomes upright panels.
After the video call the team suggests the right space, and if the load turns out larger or smaller on collection day the rent is adjusted to the actual volume, so you never pay for empty space.
How to choose a furniture storage company in the UAE
Before handing your furniture to anyone, ask these questions and expect clear answers rather than general phrases:
- Are collection and packing part of the service? Some places only rent space and leave you to find a mover, so you deal with two parties instead of one.
- Is the furniture kept off the floor? Ask about pallets and racks, not just a “clean warehouse”.
- How are moisture and dust handled? Ventilation and covers suited to each material matter more than slogans.
- Is there regular pest control? And is food kept out of the warehouse?
- Will you get a photo inventory? Without one you have nothing to compare against on retrieval day.
- Is partial retrieval possible? And what does each trip cost?
- What are the extension and exit terms? Ask how the final month is charged and how to extend while abroad.
- Is insurance available? Ask clearly and know what it covers before you sign.
At Al Basmah the answers to these questions are in this guide; anything not covered here, ask on WhatsApp before collection day.
What we store and what never enters the warehouse
We store everything normally moved from homes and offices, provided it is clean and dry. A warehouse is a shared space, and anything that can leak, ignite or attract insects harms other people’s belongings before yours.
Items we accept
- Bedroom sets, beds, mattresses and wardrobes.
- Sofas, majlis seating, tables and chairs.
- Appliances: fridges, washing machines, TVs, dismantled air conditioners.
- Carpets, curtains and soft furnishings in suitable bags.
- Boxes of clothes, books and kitchenware.
- Office furniture, files, archives and dry shop stock.
- Bicycles, sports equipment and children’s toys.
Items we refuse
- Food of any kind, including tins, spices and rice.
- Flammables: gas cylinders, petrol, paint, aerosols.
- Liquids, cleaning products and chemicals.
- Valuables: cash, gold, jewellery and original official documents.
- Live plants and animals.
- Weapons and ammunition of any kind.
Warning: One forgotten jar of sugar in a kitchen drawer is enough to bring ants to an entire row of furniture. Open every drawer and cupboard before the crew arrives and take out any food or liquid.
How furniture storage works, step by step
The whole process runs on WhatsApp; you never need to visit the office. In order:
- Remote survey: you send room photos or start a video call, and we ask about the floor, the lift and the expected duration.
- Price and date: you receive the collection and packing cost plus the monthly rent, and we agree on a day that suits you.
- Collection: the crew arrives with boxes, covers and tools and starts with the rooms furthest from the door.
- Packing: each item gets the material that suits it; boxes are sealed and labelled with their contents and the room they came from.
- Inventory: a numbered list with photos is sent on WhatsApp before the truck leaves or right after unloading.
- Storage: items go onto pallets and racks, with anything you may want early placed at the front.
- Retrieval: you message us with what you need, and we book delivery to the address you choose.
Throughout the storage period you deal with the same number, and the team sends you an update at each stage: the truck leaving, the goods reaching the warehouse, stacking completed, and finally retrieval day.
Packing for storage: why it differs from ordinary moving
Moving packaging protects furniture from knocks for a few hours. Storage packaging has to protect it from dust and moisture for months without suffocating it. You see the difference with leather and wood: airtight plastic on a leather sofa in a summer warehouse can trap moisture and leave marks, so leather and fabric get breathable cloth covers, and plastic is kept for surfaces that tolerate it.

- Dismantling: beds, large wardrobes and dining tables are taken apart, and screws go into numbered bags taped to the piece itself.
- Mattresses: thick mattress bags sealed at both ends against dust and insects.
- Leather and fabric: breathable covers instead of airtight wrapping.
- Corners and edges: cardboard or foam corner guards for tables, doors and frames.
- Glass and mirrors: bubble wrap then rigid cardboard, stored upright, never flat.
- Silica packs: inside wardrobe drawers and boxes of clothes and electronics to absorb excess moisture.
Photograph the back of your TV and computer before unplugging the cables. Six months later you will not remember which lead goes where, and the photo saves half an hour of guesswork.
Storage conditions inside the warehouse
The UAE summer is long, humidity is high in the coastal cities, and dust gets in through the smallest gap. Those three things are what stored furniture fears, so the set-up is built around them: ventilated warehouses protected against moisture and dust, everything raised off the floor, and regular checks.

- Ventilation: moving air stops moisture condensing on wood and metal.
- Raised pallets: no piece touches the floor, so it is clear of cold tiles and any stray water.
- Steel racks: heavy boxes at the bottom, light ones on top, with no weight resting on furniture.
- Pest control: the warehouse is treated regularly, and no food or plants are allowed in.
- Cleanliness: aisles are swept and checked so dust does not build up around the rows.
If you have particularly delicate pieces such as a piano, oil paintings or medical equipment, mention them during the survey so we can plan different wrapping and placement. Anything that needs to stay cold by nature is not furniture storage but refrigerated shipping within the UAE.
Short-term or long-term storage?
Short-term suits people who know when they will be back; long-term suits those who have not decided yet. The difference is not only the duration but also how things are packed and arranged:
| Item | Short term (weeks) | Long term (months) |
|---|---|---|
| Typical cases | Gap between leases, home maintenance, waiting for a villa handover | Long travel, leaving the UAE, closed office stock |
| Packing | Basic protective wrap with corner guards | More layers, breathable covers, silica packs |
| Arrangement | Everything kept near the entrance | Arranged so what you need first sits at the front |
| Appliances | Fridge emptied and dried | Emptied, dried and the door propped slightly open |
| Visits | Usually not needed | A check visit by appointment if you wish |
| Rent | Charged monthly | Charged monthly, extendable |
A tip from the field: if the period is somewhere between one and three months and you are not sure, treat it as long term. The extra packing costs little compared with a sofa that comes back smelling damp.
How much does furniture storage cost in the UAE?
Storage rent is monthly and depends on how much space your things occupy. These are starting prices; the exact figure is worked out after the survey. Send the details on WhatsApp and you will receive the price.
| Space | Suits | Monthly rent |
|---|---|---|
| Small space | A few boxes or pieces | Starts from AED 135 |
| Studio contents | Bed, wardrobe, small sofa and boxes | Starts from AED 740 |
| 1-bedroom flat | One bedroom, living room and a standard kitchen | Starts from AED 920 |
| 2-bedroom flat | Two bedrooms, living room and kitchen | Starts from AED 1,380 |
| 3-bedroom flat | Three bedrooms, majlis and kitchen | Starts from AED 1,850 |
Collection, packing and delivery are priced separately, because moving a studio on the third floor with a lift is not the same job as a two-storey villa in a distant emirate. These are the factors that move the price:
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Volume | Sets the space needed, the crew size and the truck size |
| Storage duration | Rent is paid per month, and long periods need more packing |
| Packing level | Basic or multi-layer wrapping and the number of boxes required |
| Floor and lift | Stairs with no lift, or a lift booked by the hour, lengthen the job |
| Distance | From your home to the warehouse, then from the warehouse to the delivery address |
| Retrieval visits | Every partial retrieval means an extra delivery trip |
Inventory list, photos and check visits
The inventory is your paperwork for retrieval. Every box gets a number with its general contents and room written on it, and every piece of furniture is photographed before wrapping to record its condition. The list and photos arrive on WhatsApp, so there is nothing to file.

If you would like to see your things in person, visits are available by appointment so the team can prepare your row and bring out whatever you want to inspect. Insurance is optional: ask the team about optional insurance before collection if you have high-value pieces.
Taking furniture out of storage: full or partial
You can take everything out at once or ask for specific items only. Partial retrieval is common: a family back from travelling needs the bedrooms first and the majlis a week later. Send the box numbers from the inventory or a photo of the item, and we set a delivery day.

Delivery and reassembly
We deliver to any address in the UAE, not necessarily the home we collected from. The crew reassembles the beds, wardrobes and tables it took apart, unpacks boxes if you ask, and takes the packing materials away. For delivery to a different emirate, see furniture moving in and out of the UAE.
Storage while you move abroad, and shipping your furniture later
Many people leaving the UAE do not yet know where they will live in their new country. Storage buys time: you hand back your flat, travel, find a home, then send us the address and we take the furniture out of the warehouse and ship it directly, without it going back to any home in the UAE.
- By road: to Saudi Arabia and the neighbouring Gulf countries by truck, the usual route for household furniture. See shipping from the UAE to Saudi Arabia.
- By sea: for more distant destinations, in a container or a shared consignment depending on volume.
- By air: for urgent light items such as boxes of clothes, papers or a device you need the day you land.
Furniture that has been stored with us is already dismantled, wrapped and listed, which cuts part of the preparation before shipping, and the same inventory helps with the shipment paperwork.
Preparing appliances for storage
Appliances suffer most from poor storage, and the culprit is usually water left inside them rather than the warehouse. The fridge is switched off a day before with its doors open so the ice melts and the bottom tray dries, then wiped inside with a dry cloth. The washing machine has its hose drained and its door left open for a few hours before wrapping; if it is a front-loader, ask the crew about securing the drum before it is carried.
- Dismantled air conditioners: pipe ends are capped and the outdoor unit is stored upright.
- TVs and screens: foam then rigid cardboard, stored upright with nothing placed on top.
- Small appliances: in their original boxes where possible, with cables bagged inside the same box.
- Batteries: removed from remotes, toys and clocks before long storage so they do not leak.
On retrieval, leave the fridge standing for a few hours after the move before switching it on, giving the oil and refrigerant time to settle.
Tips and warnings before you store
- Do not store any food, not even tins.
- Switch off the fridge at least a day before, then empty and dry it well; leftover water turns into mould.
- Drain the washing machine hose and drum.
- Photograph every valuable piece before wrapping and keep the photos with the inventory.
- Wash and fully dry bedding and curtains before boxing them.
- Keep important papers, gold and cash with you, not in the warehouse.
- Mark one box “Open first” and put in it what you will need on retrieval day: tools, chargers, bed sheets.
Warning: Never wrap wooden furniture in plastic while it is still damp from cleaning. Wait until it is completely dry, or the wrap will hold moisture against the surface for the whole storage period.
Frequently asked questions about furniture storage in the UAE
What is the minimum storage period?
Rent is charged by the month, so in practice the minimum is one month even if you only need two weeks. You can extend month by month with a WhatsApp message.
Can I take out a single item and leave the rest?
Yes. Send the box number from the inventory or a photo of the item, and we retrieve it alone and deliver it to you. Each partial retrieval carries a delivery charge based on distance.
Do you collect from every emirate?
We collect from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Al Ain, and the team schedules the date according to distance.
How do I know my things are fine while I am away?
The inventory and photos reach you on WhatsApp on collection day, and the team updates you at each stage. If you want a particular item checked, just ask by message.
Is the stored furniture insured?
Insurance is a separate option; ask the team about optional insurance before collection, especially if you have high-value pieces.
Do I have to pack the furniture myself?
No. The crew brings the packing materials and boxes and handles dismantling and wrapping. If you prefer to pack boxes yourself to save time, tell us and we will price it accordingly.
Can I store office furniture or shop stock?
Yes. Office furniture, files and dry stock are accepted, as long as there is no food, liquid or flammable material.
Can stored furniture be shipped straight to another country?
Yes. We take it out of the warehouse and ship it by road to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, by sea to distant destinations, or by air for urgent light items.
