If you need a shipping company from Dubai to Jordan to move your home back for good, Al Basmah International Shipping collects your apartment furniture, your car and your belongings from anywhere in Dubai and moves them by road in a closed truck that crosses Saudi Arabia in customs transit to the Al Omari border, then delivers in Amman in roughly 6 to 9 days including clearance. Irbid, Karak and Aqaba usually take a day or two longer. We also ship full containers by sea through Aqaba and urgent parcels by air to Queen Alia International Airport.

Most people who contact us from Dubai on this route are Jordanian families who have finished their working years in the Emirates and decided to go home: an apartment in Al Nahda, Al Qusais or Al Barsha, a master bedroom, children’s rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, an SUV, and a residence visa that has to be cancelled at the right moment. This guide is written for that situation: which papers to prepare before you hand back the keys, how the furniture is packed so it reaches a building in Abdoun or Khalda without a scratch, and what happens to the shipment at each stage of the road. Our Dubai branch is in Deira on Port Saeed Street, and orders are received on WhatsApp +971557643821 around the clock.
Papers for the final return
- A Jordanian who has lived abroad for a year or more can usually bring used personal effects and household furniture in duty-free once, after proving the stay abroad has ended; we review your case before shipping.
- Prepare before loading: passport copy, proof the residence has ended (cancelled UAE residence or end-of-contract letter), the family book, and a detailed contents list numbered by carton.
- The goods are usually imported within six months of your arrival in Jordan, and the owner attends clearance in person or through an official authorisation.
- The route: Dubai → Al Ghuwaifat → Al Batha → Riyadh → Qassim and Al Jouf → Al Haditha → Al Omari → Amman, about 2,400–2,600 km.
- Approximate time to Amman, Zarqa and Salt: 6 to 9 days including clearance.
- Your car travels in an enclosed carrier, after its model year and specifications are checked against Jordan’s current rules.
What we ship from Dubai to Jordan
We ship everything a household needs when it moves completely: furniture, appliances, soft furnishings, the family car and personal parcels, plus commercial goods for traders and companies. What really separates one shipment from another is volume and loading: is a space in a shared truck enough, or do you need a dedicated truck that leaves on the date you choose?
Apartment furniture for the final return
Bedrooms, sofas, dining table, kitchen appliances, washing machine and fridge, books, clothes and toys, packed for a long road and an Amman winter.
The family car
SUVs and sedans in an enclosed car carrier, after checking the model year and Jordan’s import conditions.
Parcels and personal items
Cartons of clothes, kitchenware, gifts and papers in a shared load that leaves when the truck fills, or by air if urgent.
Commercial goods
Stock for Jordanian shops and companies, with a commercial invoice, certificate of origin and the importer’s details.
If your apartment is small, a one-bedroom for example, your belongings will most likely go in a shared truck with other families’ shipments. That lowers the cost but ties the departure date to when the truck fills. A three-bedroom apartment with a car, or a family that wants everything in Amman before the school term starts, is better served by a dedicated vehicle: a 7-ton dyna, a 10-ton lorry or a closed trailer, depending on the volume we calculate at the survey.
Going home for good from Dubai: how the personal effects exemption works
The direct answer: a Jordanian returning after living abroad for a year or more can usually import personal effects and used household furniture with an exemption from customs duty, once per family, by proving the stay abroad has ended and presenting a clear contents list. That is what the Jordan Customs Department sets out in its services for individuals, but the final decision belongs to customs at inspection. So our team reviews each family’s papers before loading, and we never promise an exemption before we have seen the case.
The usual conditions we check for your case
- You have lived outside Jordan for a year or more, shown by passport stamps, residence, or work and housing contracts.
- You can prove the stay abroad has ended; the clearest proof is a cancelled UAE residence, or a letter ending your employment contract or accepting your resignation.
- It is your first exemption; it is normally granted once only.
- The goods are imported within a period that usually does not exceed six months from your arrival in Jordan.
- The owner of the goods, husband or wife, attends clearance in person or authorises someone officially.
- The goods are used and in household quantities; new appliances in their boxes and anything that looks commercial are normally charged.
A foreign resident of Dubai moving to live in Jordan is generally not covered by this exemption, and duties and tax are assessed by customs. In every case, Jordan’s general sales tax, 16% at the standard rate, and other possible fees still apply to anything the exemption does not cover.
The contents list: the page that saves you a day at customs
The contents list is the most important paper in a return shipment. We number every carton and every piece of furniture, and next to each number we write what is inside in plain words: “children’s clothes”, “kitchen pots”, “books”, “used 55-inch TV”. A list written like this can be read by a customs officer in minutes, and any carton that is opened can be matched to what is written. “Assorted household items”, on the other hand, invites questions and a long inspection.
- Name electrical appliances and their condition (used), and do not mix in new appliances in their original boxes.
- Keep important documents, gold and cash with you in your travel bag, not on the truck.
- Keep a copy of the list on your phone and give one to the person receiving in Amman.

When should you cancel your Dubai residence?
The order that works for most families: fix the loading date first, then cancel the residence close to your travel date, because the cancellation is what you will present at Jordanian customs. Do not delay the shipment long after you arrive in Jordan, since the usual window for duty-free import is six months from your arrival. And do not cancel your residence before finishing what needs a valid one in Dubai: exporting the car and cancelling its plates, closing the tenancy and the utility accounts, because some of these are easier while you are still a resident. If you are unsure of the order, send us your situation on WhatsApp and we will plan it with you step by step.
Warning: Do not put new appliances in their boxes or repeated quantities of the same item inside a personal effects shipment; that takes them out of “used, for personal use” and the shipment may be charged. No exemption is guaranteed before customs inspection.
Pickup areas in Dubai
We collect from every part of Dubai: straight from the apartment, from a storage unit, or from our Deira branch on Port Saeed Street for those who prefer to drop parcels off themselves. In towers we book the service lift and the truck bay with building management the day before, because many Dubai towers only allow moving at set hours and with prior permission.
- Deira, Al Garhoud, Al Mamzar, Al Nahda, Al Qusais and Al Twar, where many of the Jordanian families we work with live.
- Al Barsha, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai Marina, Al Sufouh and The Greens.
- Mirdif, Al Warqa, Al Mizhar, Al Rashidiya and Al Khawaneej.
- Jumeirah Village Circle, Motor City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City and Discovery Gardens.
- Business Bay, Downtown Dubai, Al Quoz, Karama and Bur Dubai.
- Jebel Ali Free Zone and Dubai Airport Free Zone for commercial shipments.
If you live in Sharjah or Ajman, shipping from Sharjah to Jordan from our Industrial Area 18 branch is closer, and for families in the capital there is a separate guide to shipping from Abu Dhabi to Jordan and villa moves.
The truck’s route from Dubai to Amman
The truck does not unload in Saudi Arabia; it crosses in customs transit with a sealed load from Al Batha to Al Haditha, then enters Jordan through Al Omari. That is why the documents must be complete before the truck leaves Dubai: a missing paper can hold a truck at the border for days.
- Loading in Dubai, sealing the load and completing export papers.
- Exit from the UAE at Al Ghuwaifat and entry into Saudi Arabia at Al Batha under transit procedures.
- The road to Riyadh, then north through Qassim and Al Jouf.
- Exit at Saudi Al Haditha, entry at Jordan’s Al Omari and clearance there or at an inland customs centre.
- The road to Amman, then delivery to your address in Abdoun or any other district or city.
The distance is roughly 2,400 to 2,600 km from Dubai. At every stage the team sends you a WhatsApp update: left Al Ghuwaifat, entered Al Haditha, reached Al Omari, clearance started, on the road to Amman. For details of the Saudi leg, see shipping from Dubai to Saudi Arabia.
Transit times from Dubai to Jordanian cities
Door-to-door road times including clearance, approximate and depending on border traffic, completeness of papers and type of shipment:
| City | Approx. road time | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Amman | 6 – 9 days | Hillside districts may need a smaller truck for the last leg |
| Zarqa & Salt | 6 – 9 days | Salt has steep streets; access is arranged in advance |
| Irbid & Mafraq | 7 – 10 days | Delivered straight after clearance or with northern loads |
| Madaba & Karak | 7 – 10 days | Karak is further south; delivery time agreed in advance |
| Aqaba | 7 – 10 days | By road, or by sea for full containers |
A shared truck leaves when it is full, so your shipment may wait a few days before departure. A dedicated truck leaves on the date you agree with us, which is why families who have already booked flights choose it so their things arrive a few days after them.
Packing apartment furniture for the journey home
The road from Dubai to Amman is long: desert heat in Saudi Arabia, then cooler air in the north, and Amman’s winter rain, sometimes snow. So we pack on the assumption that the shipment will be shaken for many hours and will face changes in temperature and humidity:
- Sofas and mattresses: thick sealed plastic, then blankets or corrugated board on the corners, so winter damp does not reach them during unloading.
- Wardrobes and bedrooms: dismantled and numbered, screws bagged and labelled with the piece name, doors wrapped in foam and board.
- Glass, mirrors and TV screens: wooden crates or reinforced cartons with corner guards, loaded upright, never flat.
- Plates and kitchenware: each piece wrapped, in small cartons one person can carry.
- Fridge and washing machine: emptied and dried a day before packing; the washer drum is locked so it does not move on the road.
- Books and papers: small cartons; original documents stay with you, not on the truck.
Keep a “first night” box with you in the car or your suitcase: sheets, towels, a charger, the children’s medicine, a kettle. Your belongings arrive a few days after you do, and that box makes the wait in Amman much easier.
Car shipping from Dubai to Jordan
We ship SUVs and sedans from Dubai to Jordan inside an enclosed car carrier, so the car is protected from desert dust and flying gravel over more than two thousand kilometres. Before anything else we check the car’s model year and specifications against Jordan’s current import rules; Jordan sets conditions on imported cars by age and specification, and taxes vary widely by engine and fuel type. We will not load a car until we are sure it will be accepted in Jordan, so it does not reach Al Omari only to be refused.
- Ownership in the shipper’s name, and an export certificate from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority with the plates cancelled.
- The owner’s passport copy, and an authorisation if someone else will receive the car in Jordan.
- The car completely empty of personal belongings: no cartons in the boot or on the seats.
- If the car is financed by a UAE bank, the lien must be released before export.

Many families ship the car in the same week as the furniture, but on two different vehicles: the furniture in the truck and the car in the enclosed carrier. That is better for the car, and it simplifies clearance because each has its own procedure at Jordanian customs. Ask the team about optional insurance for the car before shipping.
Air freight from Dubai to Jordan
Air freight from Dubai to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman usually takes 2 to 4 days door to door including clearance. It suits urgent parcels: things the family needs in the first week, documents, spare parts, trade samples, or a case of children’s clothes before school starts. It does not suit furniture; by air the cost usually exceeds the value of the piece.
- Price is by actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher; volumetric weight = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000.
- Lithium batteries, liquids and perfumes are restricted by air; tell the team about them before packing.
- A light but bulky carton, such as children’s toys, can cost far more by volumetric weight than its actual weight suggests.

- Family book.
- A detailed, numbered contents list.
- An official authorisation if the owner does not attend clearance in person.
Commercial goods
- Commercial invoice and packing list.
- A UAE certificate of origin, which allows the Greater Arab Free Trade Area exemption from customs duty; sales tax and other fees still apply.

Cars
- Ownership papers.

Prohibited and restricted items
Strictly prohibited: narcotics, weapons and ammunition without a permit, counterfeit goods and gambling equipment. Prior permits are needed for drones, some medicines and some wireless devices. If a family member takes a regular medicine, carry it with you with the prescription rather than putting it on the truck.
Prices for shipping from Dubai to Jordan
We do not give one figure for every shipment, because a one-bedroom apartment in a shared truck is a completely different job from three bedrooms and a car on a dedicated truck. Send the details on WhatsApp and you will receive the price: photos of the rooms or a list of items, your area in Dubai, the city and district in Jordan, and the date you want. You can also fill in the quote request form.
What decides the price?
| Factor | How it affects the price |
|---|---|
| Volume in m³ | The main factor, calculated from the item list or a survey |
| Shared or dedicated truck | Shared costs less; dedicated leaves on your date |
| Delivery city and district | Amman differs from Karak or Aqaba; hillside districts may need a smaller truck |
| Packing, dismantling, reassembly | Wooden crates for glass and screens add cost |
| Floor and lift | Hand-carrying up stairs in Amman is part of delivery |
| Documents and clearance | Exempt personal effects differ from commercial goods needing approvals |
| Car type | Size, weight and the enclosed carrier |
Delivery in Abdoun and Amman: hills, stairs and carrying to the floor
Amman is built on hills, and Abdoun shows it clearly: sloping streets and stone buildings of three or four floors, many without a lift or with a small one that a wardrobe will not fit into. So the team calls the receiver the day before delivery to ask about the street width, whether a large truck can stop in front of the building, which floor it is and what the stairs are like. If the street is narrow, the goods are moved at customs or the warehouse onto a smaller truck, and the furniture is carried up the stairs by hand to the apartment.

- Abdoun, Dabouq, Khalda, Tla’ Al Ali, Sweifieh, Shmeisani, Jabal Amman, Marj Al Hamam, Abu Nseir and Tabarbour: access is planned around each district.
- Zarqa, Salt, Madaba, Jerash, Ajloun, Irbid, Mafraq, Karak and Aqaba: delivery after clearance at an agreed time.
- In winter, rain and occasional snow in Amman are taken into account; we hold unloading for a few hours in heavy rain rather than carry sofas in wet.
Ask the relative receiving in Amman to be at the home before the agreed time, with the apartment open and the space in front of the building free. These small things save an hour or two of waiting on a steep street.
Road, sea via Aqaba, or air?
- Road: best for apartment furniture, cars and most household shipments; about 6 to 9 days to Amman.
- Sea: Jebel Ali to Aqaba port via the Red Sea, roughly 2 to 3 weeks sailing plus port handling, clearance and the road to the city; suits full containers and heavy commercial cargo.
- Air: 2 to 4 days, for urgent, light parcels only.

Tips before you close your Dubai apartment
- Start on the paperwork two weeks before you travel, not on the last day.
- Get rid of what you will not use in Jordan before packing; every cubic metre less is a lower cost.
- Do not sell or ship the car before we have checked it will be accepted in Jordan.
- Photograph valuable appliances before packing and ask the team about optional insurance.
- Write the Amman receiver’s number clearly on the contents list.
Warning: Never put gold, cash, passports or original certificates on the truck. Any hidden item not written on the list can delay clearance of the entire shipment at Al Omari.
Frequently asked questions about shipping from Dubai to Jordan
Is my furniture exempt from customs if I return to Jordan for good?
Usually yes, if you are Jordanian, have lived abroad for a year or more, can prove your residence has ended, the goods are used and in household quantities, and you have not used the exemption before. Jordan Customs decides, and we review your case before shipping.
How many days does shipping from Dubai to Amman take?
About 6 to 9 days by road door to door including clearance; Irbid, Karak and Aqaba about 7 to 10 days.
Do I have to cancel my residence before shipping?
You need proof that your stay abroad has ended at Jordanian clearance, and a cancelled residence is the clearest proof. It is best to finish the car export and tenancy first, then cancel the residence close to your flight.
Do you ship the car in an enclosed carrier?
Yes. SUVs and sedans travel in an enclosed car carrier, after we check the model year and Jordan’s import conditions.
Will you carry furniture up to the floor in Abdoun if there is no lift?
Yes. Furniture is carried up the stairs by hand, and if the street is narrow we use a smaller truck for the last leg. This is agreed with the receiver before delivery day.
Can I follow my shipment on the road?
Yes. The team sends you a WhatsApp update at each stage: loading, Al Ghuwaifat, Al Haditha, Al Omari, clearance and delivery.
Shared or dedicated truck for a small family?
Shared is cheaper for a small apartment if your date is flexible. If you have booked flights and want your things a few days after you land, a dedicated truck is safer for the timing.
How do I get the price?
Send the details on WhatsApp and you will receive the price, with photos, the item list and both addresses.
